Yes, they are beautiful dogs, but they aren't the breed standard. They shouldn't be bred because these aren't desirable traits for the malamute breed--in the wild, those long wooly coats would not protect them from the cold.
Thanks for the reply. A wooly Malamute? Wow. I had never seen one before viewing your video, just the standard ones. You're right. The fur threw me off, plus the fact that the camera can add ten pounds -- lol. I was just concerned because I'm a dog lover, as you probably are. Anyhow, I enjoyed your video and I think your Husky and your Malamute are very handsome guys!!
Your dogs are adorable, but one of them is extremely obese. This is unhealthy and dangerous and could result in serious heart problems not to mention unnecessary stress on his joints. For your dog's sake, please see a vet for advice about a healthy weightloss program.
You are seeing an Alaskan Malamute and a husky. Nicholas "the Alaskan Malamute" weighs in at 90 lbs, standard for a malamute, what isn't standard is that he is considered a "wooly", lots and lots of hair, maybe this is what you are seeing. These dogs get run about 15 miles a week and have regular vet visits where Nicholas last received a clean bill of health, weight included. With all the exercise that I do with my dogs I would never let them become obese. However, thanks for your comments.
What your seeing is a husky next to a Malamute. Huskies always look like crack heads next to Malamutes. lol.
Malamutes have extremely large & heavy bones. My 6 month old's leg is bigger around then my bi-cep and his getting bigger still, he's extremely healthy. If Nicholas was obese, he wouldn't be able to run like that.
Yeah wow, Nicholas is a true wooly. Mine are only half woolies. I would love to own 1 full wooly. You'd have to be crazy not to breed him.

@jtotehackie No, dogs aren't bred for survivability in the wild because they are meant to be cared for by humans. You're thinking of wolves.
