they both piss me off............villazon sounds out of place on this one.........and flemming voice.......i just can't even talk about it...it makes me too angry
Not into Fleming's Violetta. She is not being Violetta, she is being Renee Fleming - turning phrases and making scoops and making it un-Verdi -ish. I do love the authentic 19th century look of this production. It's almost as great as the Zefferelli stage productions and his 1982 film.
This reminds me Sarah Bernhardt. At the age of 66 she created the role of the 17 years old "SON" (masculine) of Napoleon, in Rostand's: L'aiglon at 54 created Joan of arc, in one part the inquisitor ask: How old are you? she impassible replied: nineteen! and every one at the audience believe it was nineteen! that's magic of incarnation in a role.
I LOOOOOOOOVE this video.... is just perfect! I love how she interpretes the sentiments she has with the agilities of her voice in min 4:15, and Villazon´s passion is unique!! is kind of weird but i think the chemistry here with her is bigger than with Netrebko ... and that kiss!!!!!
I usually don't care for Villazon, but the chemistry here is very good. Renee's voice sounds lighter and brighter in this duet, very well executed. And she still as cute as a doll at almost 50.
GReat Acting, musicality and singing. You can't imagine how a lyrical duet is difficult to interprete and in each others face without spoiling your part!!! BRAVA
Oh paleeze Mary Louise! cut the age crap. I mean seriously! with the exception of Anna Netrebko show me a drop dead gorgeous cortisan type in her mid 20 somethings that can sing this music? Unfortunately these scores weren't exactly written for pretty young things! Recall Toti Delmonti singing what I consider the most touching Butterfly at age 74! if you have that much of a problem turn the picture off and jsut listen. it's phenominal!
The quintessential courtisane, so sensual that it truly brings the whole coloratura to its brilliant reality of refusal and acceptance. Ex-tra-or-di-na-ry. The most credible Traviata I have ever witnessed
Guau, she´s so sexy in that romantic costume... This proves that we (opera lovers) don't need those out of context productions, but good taste, good singing and good acting.
I know what you mean but for me it just adds a kind of edge to the Alfredo/Violetta relationship. Its not in the script for her to be much older but, it's not exactly against the spirit of the story either. :)
and, in my opinion, Renee doesn't look her age :) so I think it makes things more interesting, since she's gorgeous and he isn't bad looking either ;) it really pulls us into the Violetta/Alfredo relationship more, along with their amazing voices and acting!
I love how close they get - it really brings his text and her denial alive. Seeing this production was the first time I really noticed this duet as the theme of the first act, and this was the fourth time I'd seen Traviata.
Very, very good. I know everyone talks about Villazon and Netrebko being a great pairing (they are!), but he and Fleming are sparkling together... This must have been great to watch live.
"Ah, si! Da un anno!"

Excelentes ambos!!....y que buenos actores son tambien...le imprimen mucha sensualidad especialmente en la parte del beso....
Rolando Villazón siempre se dá al 100% en cada escena...además es un hombre muy apasionado cuando debe serlo....

Who cares how old Renee Fleming is? She is perfect Violetta and shows the emotions way better than Anna Netrebko.

son tan buenos cantantes como actores... esta escena es aún mas sexi y sensual que las escenas "de revolcón" que hace Rolando con la Netrebko.
¡cuidate Rolando para que nos sigas deleitando muchos años más!
