You have it right, haggisman. Maile's production was not only powerful, but very unique sounding. It made the Girlschool records sound different than other metal/hard rock records. Everything else from Play Dirty (or even Screaming Blue Murder) onward might have been high quality recording, but was also very generic and sounded like the production on most other mid-80s glam/pop/metal records.

Girlschool - not a great all girl band, but a great rock band. A group this good needs no modifiers. The only band that can take a Motorhead song and give it more punch than the original. Turning the tables just a bit, I'd say 75% of today's bands should take lessons before being allowed to play with the girls (at least these girls). Kelly wasn't the greatest female rock guitarist, she could hold her own with -anyone- who ever touched a Les Paul, and looked better while doing it.
