@ytgfy Probably some old head magma fans that were used to either the jazz heavy early era or the heavy rhodes crushing bass thumping intense drumming era from MDK to Udu Wudu. This is definitely a newer direction, but I think most fans will not relent. It is a very beautiful and well put together piece.
I'm glad to hear that and will be there, front seat, when they come to Oslo to see your words ring true. I really hope they play some Emëhntëht-Rê stuff instead of this though...

I´d never thought I´d say this, but I´m not too impressed. Slag Tanz is brilliant, but FT leaves me with ambigous feelings towards the new line-up. It´s almost 30 mins long and the first parts seems uninspired and lacking in intensity. Stella´s rise to front singer sadly seems to have opened up a more mellow side of Magma. I hope to GOD that the concert in Oslo in December will make me eat my words as I regard Magma as one of the best bands ever to grace our humble planet...
This is the 2nd time I've heard this opinion of Felicite Thosz (1 blog idiot said it sounded like a Christmas carol mixed with a toothpaste commercial) and I don't know what you people are listening to. First, a Magma fan complaining about length? "Uninspired & lacking in intensity"?? What are you listening to? Granted, this is a different kind of work than De Futura & heavier stuff, but if you listen to the development of the music through light and shadow, it's immensely rich & intense.
I'm with you, ytgfy. The people who don't like this part of "Felicite Thosz" probably didn't like the slow bits of "K.A II" or the track "Coltrane Sundia" either. Magma has had a softer side for a very long time now; I'm glad to see and hear more of it.

For me, Wohst Klahmeuhn (sp?), though ideal as a concert opener and really setting the tone, risks getting very boring very soon. Happily the version in Oslo last night was stellar compared to many recordings of it that circulate on the web.
Félicité Thosz OTOH is to me what saves Magma for the future and what makes Magma way more interesting than most. The newly gained richness in textures and compositional techniques add a dimension ...
Now, I do love Magma just as much as the next guy, but traditional Magma can just not be played every day.
Songs like FT and the long Ëmëhntëhtt-Rê OTOH, have been on repeat for a week now without me getting bored.
I think the new line up guarantees for more musical information to be put into the songs. Specially the first Rhodes player and the bassist and guitarist add unVanderish stuff that imho suits the songs very well, and add to the fun.
Yep, Magma forever. Has there ever been a rock band with such longevity? Sure, lots reform with fat bellies & pudgier attitudes to play spiritless versions of their old songs for a bunch of aging women vainly hoping to touch their young-and-sexy days again, in any form they can. But Magma ain't that. They're playing new material (this a 28 minute piece called Felicite Thosz) with spirit and power. Personally, I like Stella in the lead vocal role even better than Klaus (sacrilege I know...)

Erickzann:
You WILL eat your words.
I went to Europe this summer just to see the guys in a couple of gigs and meet with them in Nice.
There's nothing on earth like this band, believe me.
Way ahead from their time, this music will be really appreciated in 50 more years or so.
Enjoy it!

Well Erickzann, 2009's repertoire is pretty powerful:
1.- Wöhst Klameuhn (you can find several good versions of this on YouTube).
2.- Félicité Thosz
3.- Emëhntëht-Rê (full version ~1 hour long!)
4.- Ballade
5.- Kobaia (as reprise)
Enjoy it.
