If anything, Snape could have been portrayed by a LESS attractive actor, as his character in the books is described as anything *but* attractive. And while this is entirely opinion and taste, Alan Rickman is a sexy sexy man. Rickman portrayed the multi-layered, complex and deeply tormented Snape PERFECTLY so in my mind, it wouldn't matter if they found someone who looked exactly as the book describes, Alan Rickman *is* Snape simply because he did it and he did it flawlessly.
From the very beginning I always kinda liked Snape. I dunno why. Maybe it was the way he kept his feelings away from the rest of the world while playing his role as a teacher and a spy. To me, Snape was the best character in HP. He was truly the real hero, imao.
Rickmann did a splendid job. No one else would portray him.

I know 'its only a character', but I feel that Snape deserved much more happiness (& shouldn't have been killed off) than Rowling gave him in DH.
