We still do it, Afghanistan, Iraq, all the old empire countries all the problems probably our fault, maybe one day we will put the mistakes of our ancestors right.
There are plenty of English anti-recruitment songs as well (Though this one is very similar to 'Johnny I Hardly Knew You', which is - probably - Irish).
That is so NOT true.We fought and died for our freedom.People make Wars by virtue of our insistance on making mountains out of molehills. Not nations, colors, religions, just us, one at a time or all at once..just bikering over dumb stuff. This is music people, listen and be soothed, not incited.Don't judge anyway. If we all could just "lay aside the judgment of each other's duty"( misquote from one of Denean's tunes).Dont' hate, dont' judge.just Be.And always, Viva la Revolucion.Blessings, MdR
I got to speak to Maddie once...I told her how much I loved The Brown Girl...she told me that she had recorded the vocal track while she was 'pissed' from the confines of a broom closet.
Thanks for posting this. I swa them live, bought Maddy a beer and got her to sign the album. Long since lost in a flood. Great memory though and a great verion of to be a pilgrim.

I've always loved this song - imagine it being remixed in 5.1.. all that percussion swirling around the room.. wonderful.

Its actually an adaption of what seems to be a handful of Irish anti-recruitment songs, not at all English :).

I think this is probably part of the root of our "When Johnnie Comes Marching Home" song, only with the original anti-war idea.
VladtheEmailer 3 years ago
Most definitely.
'Johnny I hardly Knew Ye' was turned into 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home' which is a pro-war song.
If you refuse to give your body as a weapon of war, then war becomes impossible.
