  • This is so fucking stupid... But incredibly funny!! I'm a northerner, but, this is too funny to hate!!

  • I'm a northerner and i even find this funny

  • Thats really funny that. Loads of thought gone into it. I wonder why these guys aren't on tv anymore? Probably becuase they bring a new definition to the word dreadful.

    Victoria Wood is funnier!!!

  • HAHAHAHA

I go back home and I beat up wife cuz I'm a big fat northern bastard!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Is this a documentry

  • you cant even spell 'calypso' lol

  • Sorry but I need to correct you on the lyrics you typed. At the start of the chorus they say "Hecky thump were singing" or to us 't 'postrofe it's: 'eckythump we' singin'. The only other bit is when he goes down' pup. You say 'I go back home and beat up wife'. What he actualy says is 'I go bygum' not go back home. I'm pretty northern and am sure this is correct. Cheers me ol' marra.

  • I work with a bunch of Yorkshiremen & cant stop laughing at this

  • I'm from Yorkshire & I always piss myself laughing at this sketch.

  • look at the holes in his jumper lol

  • Just one question?

What's the "Mrs. Postelthwaite feed my whippet" reference about?

I got everything else (which I feel is quite an accomplishment being Australian with no English heritage).

  • It's just that 'Postlethwaite' is a typical sort of Yorkshire name, and whippets /pigeons/ ferrets etc are the stereotypical best-beloved pets of Northern folk.

  • Ok. Thanks.

  • @a1077618 Hang on, how can you be aussie without an English heritage??, are you from mars, or ireland.

  • Just like watching an episode of Early Doors or the Royles. Totally hilarious. Bug-a-lugs!!!

  • very funny and all ... Iam a student in UK and aware of north and south divide. but i don't understand with the chucky chucky, and whippet and all. somebody enlighten me with these cultural terms.

  • Whippets are the poor mans race horse.

The working class people couldn't afford the quicker and bigger greyhounds and so raced whippets instead. The ferrets are all to do with ferret legging. Google it, you wouldn't belive me if I ecxplained it.

  • These things are hard to explain..Chucky is a reference to what people call other people. Whereas some people call each other "mate" or "buddy". Northeners tend to use "Chuck". By the way, I see your studying in Glamorgan, Wales. I'm from Wales and some people down here use "Butty" but that's going out of fashion now :P

  • @swanseajackthe3rd Arh am from Wakefield West Yorkshire and it reminds me of the working man pubs and people in em lol

  • @swanseajackthe3rd Butty is cool. never heard chuck in me fucking liffe hahaha and im from manchester..

  • im from leeds this is genious and true!

  • hey mrs postlethwaite come & feed me whippet!!!! fuckin gold mate!!!!!

  • laughed my tits off!!!

  • Can someone tell me what the connection between Northerners and ferrets is? I've always thought it was just Compo on Last of the summer wine, but I've seen several references to ferrets on Northern shows. Just wondering.

  • They were used in yorkshire for rabbiting i dont know bout anywere else but thats y us norhterners are linked to them

  • It's to do with the "sport" of ferret legging. It made a revival in the 70's among some coal miners.

Basically the contestants tie their trousers at the ankles, and then put a ferret down their trousers and see how long they can hack it. Serious.

  • LMAO - I remember this from the back in the day. I think it's great - and genetically I'm half Lancashire & half Yorkshire!

  • Comment removed

  • brilliant! but why does everyone down south think england ends at yorkshire? there's smoggies, makems and geordies before ye even get to northumberland!

  • is it just me or did holcrofta just waste his time with that long winded drabble lol :P

  • im a yorkshireman and i find this sketch hilarious, its brilliant.

yes theres alot of stereotyping in this clip but thats EXACTLY the point, exellent comedy and not one bit offensive to me..

  • Doesn't he say "Icky Thump" at 1.40?

  • Sounds like it.

  • "I come down pub an' I have 10 pint, e gizzup I'm gettin' plastered, I go back home and I beat up wife 'cause I'm a big fat northern bastard!"

Legendary! Now THIS is comedy!!! XD

  • Anybody who has spent too much time trying to be politically correct will not find this funny.

    I however find this hilarious

  • It's 20 years ago now and I still find it hilarious! And for the record, I AM born and bred in North West England.

Oldfashoinedman, get a sense of humour, it's sadly lacking in this country now. Mike S.

  • Ay up mi duck, I'm really proud to be a northerner and i don't take offence to this. Its just how southerners see us and we all know its far from the truth. Its just a bit of fun.

  • I think your joking arn't you? Its not Racism.

  • why arnt theese on tv no more fucking quality better than the shit on now

    funny as fuck man

  • i come down't pub & i drink 10 pints....ee guzzump i'm getting plastered. i go back home to beat up wife...cos i'm a big fat northern bastard.

    funny as fuck man

  • So, 'northerners' are another group it's PC to rip the piss out of (so long as they're English of course). Got to admit, it is funny though.

  • I hate PC!

  • lyrics are slightly wrong you missed "eckie thump "twice which is a barnsley expression usually associated with surpise.. i.e

lord anthony smythe"mrs poselthwaite i haven't seen you for 5 years you do look well"

mrs poselthwaite "eee echie thump its been t' years thars looking grand tho""

  • Yes, as a Lancashire lad I noticed the slight mistranslation of "'ecky thump", and the very last words would, I reckon, be "Buggerlugs!"

Brilliant at the time, and even now, the way they sent us up, all the while displaying the fact that most don't know that the written t', when used denoting Northern speech, actually signifies a glottal stop. That's to say "I'm going to t' shop" is spoken as "I'm going tut shop", not "I'm going to teh-shop".

    Quite interesting...?

  • I have a John Lennon recording, from his own home tapes, where he gets something wrong and uses the expression 'oh bugger me lugs'...

  • classic

  • F*cking legends!!!!! Nuff said.

  • Ha ha, very funny. Although I did show this to a friend of mine who I thought would appreciate it. She just sat there and said, "but i don't see the point, it's more fun to take the p*** out of the Northerners yourself!!!"

  • Oh man, I saw these guys when I lived in Australia, they are a riot, this was on their show tv show, and I think me laughing so loud got me my divorce. GREAT ClIP and "ferret down my trousers if you please"!!!LOL
