Thats really funny that. Loads of thought gone into it. I wonder why these guys aren't on tv anymore? Probably becuase they bring a new definition to the word dreadful.
Sorry but I need to correct you on the lyrics you typed. At the start of the chorus they say "Hecky thump were singing" or to us 't 'postrofe it's: 'eckythump we' singin'. The only other bit is when he goes down' pup. You say 'I go back home and beat up wife'. What he actualy says is 'I go bygum' not go back home. I'm pretty northern and am sure this is correct. Cheers me ol' marra.
It's just that 'Postlethwaite' is a typical sort of Yorkshire name, and whippets /pigeons/ ferrets etc are the stereotypical best-beloved pets of Northern folk.
very funny and all ... Iam a student in UK and aware of north and south divide. but i don't understand with the chucky chucky, and whippet and all. somebody enlighten me with these cultural terms.
The working class people couldn't afford the quicker and bigger greyhounds and so raced whippets instead. The ferrets are all to do with ferret legging. Google it, you wouldn't belive me if I ecxplained it.
These things are hard to explain..Chucky is a reference to what people call other people. Whereas some people call each other "mate" or "buddy". Northeners tend to use "Chuck". By the way, I see your studying in Glamorgan, Wales. I'm from Wales and some people down here use "Butty" but that's going out of fashion now :P
Can someone tell me what the connection between Northerners and ferrets is? I've always thought it was just Compo on Last of the summer wine, but I've seen several references to ferrets on Northern shows. Just wondering.
They took a break for family reasons mainly I believe. They want to come back on TV from what I've heard but crappy TV Execs don't know great comedy if it hit them in the bloody face lol! plus everything is a 'NO NO'' now, Can't offend anyone anymore.
oh dear some one on here hasent got a sense of humour but then if he watches the vid he fits the part hahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

Dear oh dear, they want to make their minds up ! Judging by the location it looks to be set in Lancashire, but they're doing their best to speak with Yorkshire accents, can't have it both ways ! That sketch might seem amusing to southerners, but this Tyke is not amused. Want to learn some proper Yorkshire words ? Try 'Eyup nahthen, ahs it gooin mi owd ?'
OK OK i think i should own up to the "ecky thump" situation although im from the north i must admit i couldnt understand what they were saying when i did the subs, so i just made it up in parts! And i would of gotten away with it if it wernt for you pesky kids!!!! lol
brilliant! but why does everyone down south think england ends at yorkshire? there's smoggies, makems and geordies before ye even get to northumberland!
Ay up mi duck, I'm really proud to be a northerner and i don't take offence to this. Its just how southerners see us and we all know its far from the truth. Its just a bit of fun.
Yes, as a Lancashire lad I noticed the slight mistranslation of "'ecky thump", and the very last words would, I reckon, be "Buggerlugs!"
Brilliant at the time, and even now, the way they sent us up, all the while displaying the fact that most don't know that the written t', when used denoting Northern speech, actually signifies a glottal stop. That's to say "I'm going to t' shop" is spoken as "I'm going tut shop", not "I'm going to teh-shop".
hi all thanx for watching and rating just to let you all know ive just put 2 more video's on, if you get the time why not have a look there very funny
Ha ha, very funny. Although I did show this to a friend of mine who I thought would appreciate it. She just sat there and said, "but i don't see the point, it's more fun to take the p*** out of the Northerners yourself!!!"
Oh man, I saw these guys when I lived in Australia, they are a riot, this was on their show tv show, and I think me laughing so loud got me my divorce. GREAT ClIP and "ferret down my trousers if you please"!!!LOL
This is so fucking stupid... But incredibly funny!! I'm a northerner, but, this is too funny to hate!!

Just one question?
What's the "Mrs. Postelthwaite feed my whippet" reference about?
I got everything else (which I feel is quite an accomplishment being Australian with no English heritage).

They were used in yorkshire for rabbiting i dont know bout anywere else but thats y us norhterners are linked to them

It's to do with the "sport" of ferret legging. It made a revival in the 70's among some coal miners.
Basically the contestants tie their trousers at the ankles, and then put a ferret down their trousers and see how long they can hack it. Serious.

lyrics are slightly wrong you missed "eckie thump "twice which is a barnsley expression usually associated with surpise.. i.e
lord anthony smythe"mrs poselthwaite i haven't seen you for 5 years you do look well"
mrs poselthwaite "eee echie thump its been t' years thars looking grand tho""
