Can you play 2 inputs AND the xlr? Or is it just an xlr and a 1/4" jack? Also, can you count down the recording and pre determine amount of beats to record?
Excellent Review. I'm kind of a Gear Junkie, but don't have one of these. I am also Multi-Instrumentalist, and would to get one of these to perform live with numerous instruments. Thanks again for your review.
I gotta say, man--your videos are consistently a pleasure to watch. Normally, I hate gear demos where people talk a lot. Your videos are the exception. I find your commentary to be endearing and concise, and your playing is excellent. Truly great demos.
also: for some reason my Jamman has just randomly decided to not start recording when I hit the record switch. It puts in a delay *then* starts recording. I know this is the metronome function, but it retarded and I dont want it...nothing I do switches it off; turning it off/on; deleting channels.
I also note that every now and again it emits a horrible piercing note and then goes to bank 1 and plays to sound. it will also get stuck on a loop and replay only part of it. I suspect it's fcked tbh?
I can't copy files from my computer to the jam man: i replace the .wav and .xmls in the LOOP folders with ones I make. The jamman tells me they have been copied across yet when I try to play them from the jamman don't appear..plugging the jamman back into my computer tells me the files have mysteriously been deleted?! wtf? any ideas?
@colmcq Man, I wish I could help you but I've never tried that :( Maybe try posting your question on The Gear Page? There are lots of looper users there - maybe someone knows!
Great tutorial Scott, just got mine this past weekend and I was having a bit of a problem getting the loop on the beat and now I don't, I'm sure I will have some fun with this great little piece of kit!
@soaring138 Very cool idea! Yeah, when I was looking at the various options, the drum parts were just not something I felt I would use so the Boss didn't "win" in that category for me. I mostly just use the looper for looping bass lines and rhythm guitar and so either works perfectly!
Great demo man, I had a couple of questions though I am looking at either getting this or the Boss RC-20XL (Yeah the RC-50 is just waaay too much for my needs and expensive haha) Anyway, what were some of the reasons why the the Boss Looper fell short? Does this jamman have drum beats like the Boss one? The main thing that grabs my attention to this one though is the Card, which could be very useful and fun. Thanks!
@thedonace213 Thanks! I think both pedals are nice but the feel of the JamMan was nicer to my feet. That's important to me b/c I don't pre-record my loops - I do them all "live" - and I need something that just works without thinking. The JamMan does not have drums though - you could pre-load them on the card though.
@GibsonGuitarist420 No, it just has an output for your amp. There are three things that could be wrong - (1) either you aren't plugging it into your amp using the correct output (unlikely), (2) your instrument level is not enabled/up, or (3) your loop level isn't up. I can't tell you which of these it is but my guess is that it's one of them
@nykretus It ships with a card that allows you to load up to 2GB of WAVs/MP3s. You could create whatever MIDI beats/etc, bounce them to WAV, and load them up onto the JamMan. Haven't tried it though
awesome vid. I ordered one of these a coupled days ago! Im so pumped about it that I just keep watching videos with other guitarists messing around with them! lol Great guitar work by the way!

@simonz350 hehe - thanks for the nice comments :) 11 months later and it's still on my board. Given that I'm a total gear nut, that should make you a little more confident about buying one!
I love mine. I got 4 memory cards. 2 gig is all they said it would hold. It is getting hard to find them so I am getting more now. I have a list for each card. You can record whole songs off anything that has an earphone plug too . Just plug it into your computer and plug the ear phones in the phone output. I put music to one of my videos.
@ASqueakOfEvil I'm not quite sure that I understand your question. Here's the signal chain: Guitar -> OD pedal -> JamMan -> Amp. I then mic the amp and ran it through my DAw. So what you hear is the mic'ed amp. Is that sort of the answer you were looking for? I'm sorry - not quite sure what you mean.
Scott, after seeing your demo I went and bought one of these, i have had a spot of bother though. I recorded a couple of blues baking tracks so I could play lead over the top and record myself to hear all of my bum notes! Ha. I played through my Fender blues junior so added a bit more pre amp gain and it distorted the backing track as well as my lead guitar signal. How do you get around that?
Wow Scott! Crazy good. Much more than I expected when looking for a demo of a product. I am greatly impressed with your musical ability. Have anything for sale on ITunes? ;-)
i just a got the jamman and it works great! but... when ever i turn on my distortion (i only have a foot switch that came with my amp, its a marshall 100dfx) my amp gets really fuzzy or when i turn on the wah and im on a clean channel it has a hint of distortion and im not sure whats wrong can any one help me? please!
@StrattyBoiz Wait - it seems you have "first" and "last" backwards? "First" means "My guitar is plugged into this pedal" and that makes "Last" the "pedal that is the last pedal before the amp." I use it as my last pedal and I don't have those issues you are talking about.
@farizzal Well, after owning a JamMan for a while now and playing it through about six different amps, I've come to the realization that yes, it does suck tone way more than I initially thought it did back when I recorded this video. I'm actually considering trying another pedal to see if I can get one that sucks tone less but it's hard to find one that has all these features and is less than $600!

Scott, great demo. There was a few times where the look on your face appeared to be the result of something entirely different than simply playing a guitar. But after watching a few times, I got over the feeling that your head was going explode @ 8:10..LOL

I think digitech got this almost dead right, the omission of a basic drum machine (not glorified metronome) is pretty much unforgivable. In fact theres still not a "perfect" machine on the market, the jm4 is close BUT you cant change guitar patches with your feet (i dont think). I expect the next generation of looper/processors to be all a guitarist needs for practice/composing. (the GNX3/4 was an attempt BUT accessing the looper was too awkward and the 8 track unnecessary)
@abergreg For me, that really wasn't that big of a deal. I don't really use the drum machines but I use the metronome every day. My beef with it is that there's no tempo control except your tapping. I keep song lists that have the BPMs of the songs. I'd like to be able to dial right into that. Right now, I have to use an external metronome to get the beat, then I try tapping it in but the JamMan will never get it "just right", and then I curse at it, and finally "settle" on what it gives me.
@ScottWhigham Something as basic as a digitech rp100 has a decent drum machine and the bpm is simple to set with a rotary control. Now if i could just sync the two together!
Just got mine today. You sure do have it figured out nicely. Great post and playing. Really is a jam session with this thing! Now I just got to get it figured out too. lol.
I had an RC-50 but couldn't play and work the slide rule you need to figure it out at the same time. You've hit the nail on the head and I'm ordering one now...
tomorrow ill go to my local guitar shop test this out, i wanted to buy boss rc-2, but this looks to have more features but its more expensive too... i want to ask becouse ive seen on some forums that loops are less quality when im using overdrive from valve amp, next i want to ask how good its made, cos i dont want to spend 250 euro and then return it back, and the last question is... someone told that the imported files from this loop station are in PC very bad quality.... ty for help
@lunapuwn just as an aside, if you're running the jamman before your amp distortion, you're going to have distorted tones on all your phrases. Perhaps you knew this, but thought I'd say it. You may be able to run it in an effects loop, but I'm not sure.
simple structures sound better on a looper if you try and over play it, each loop sounds like you just put different songs on top of songs even if in the same key. It takes a while to learn how to back up your own licks, you pretty much have to do the call and answer type blues style until you get the complexities down enough to layer up complicated parts, if you just throw your meanest licks at the thing you lose control, K.I.S.S. is a phrase to remember
I bought mine late 09 and it's given me that little bit extra I can add when I'm out performing. Personally I'm coming back the other way as far as backing goes I just play accoustic guitar/ vocals now days and the Jamman allows me to keep it real. Don't get me wrong I'm not totally against people using backing but for me I've been there and now I prefer to just use a looper and the EFX and that's why I love the Jamman.
I had one of the Boss loopers and saw a lot of information about this one. I sold the Boss unit and bought one of these off of eBay. I had no idea that it would not have a drum sound, but just a click Ouch!
@GibsonGuitarist666 Not in this video I don't - they just go through the same channel. In my live rig, I do split it into Channel A = loop and Channel B = live. If you can't hear the loop or lead, you need to turn up the volume of each on the pedal
@HeroH80 I love mine. I bought one of the JamMan Solo pedals a few weeks ago just trying to have a smaller pedal. It wasn't very easy to use so I returned it the next day. This one is my fav. The only thing is that now they have a stereo version...
You did a really nice job at demoing some of what it can do. was fun to watch. You're a good player too. I got one and it's great fun. I play drums, bass and guitars in one shot. I plug my Yamaha digital drum into the mic input by going first through a DI box. Bass and guitars are into the instrument input via an A/B box (a small mixer would work too). It all works great. Thanks for your vid.
@Jkaterchannel Thanks :) That sounds like a neat setup. I just picked up an ABY box and have been running the JamMan's loops through the "clean" channel and then playing through the "dirty" channel over it - all controlled by the ABY. Love it!
I like your vid. So @ 2:31 you can record your songs down on the jam man for small show???? How many songs??? would it be 99 songs per the selectors???
I have a jamman as well and I've been pretty happy with it, except from the fact that you can only undo the last overdub you recorded.. So if for example I start by recording some sort of bass, then I overdub to add a rythm guitar and then I keep jamming on top of it. Now if I want to remove the bass that is not possible anymore, I can only remove the rythm guitar. Im thinking about buying the boss rc-50,cause you can actually control each overdub, its volume etc.what do you think?
hey great demo scott , really informative nice skills on the gat too!!! im deffo getting a loop station but as with anything for guitar and pedals its like a mine field...im looking at the boss rc2 or rc20 , but im really liking this jamman now....i like the idea of the mic input....does boss ones not have this?? how much was the jamman? thanx and great vid
@tabulaerasae82 Thanks! I think the Boss RC50 has it but not the RC20 however it's been months since I've looked so double check! I bought mine for somewhere in the $200ish range used
Hmmmm - no idea! Probably some sort of Dorian with just using leading notes to tease my way up and around the other notes in the scale. TBH I'm not very good at describing that sort of thing though. It's been 15+ years since I had a music theory course or thought of that stuff!
Fantastic Demo. When you start the initial first loop it counts you down 4 beats, does it keep counting you down for everyloop or right away it starts you going over that first loop?
It goes into the loop straight away - no more counting you down. It only counts down 1x. When you stop the first recording, it goes straight into the loop. If you overdub, it begins recording immediately when you hit the pedal.
That was awesome! I agree with Billy..definitely great chops. I'm debating a buying a looper for my acoustic-elec and I was going to get the BOSS looper..
Thanks again and awesome music. How'd you learn to play those riffs and stuff?
Loved this!!! You've got some very nice chops. I just picked a JamMan up yesterday and am trying to get going with it. This video is great...it really helps. I'm interested in laying in drums, bass and keys. Looping is such a creative booster.
why does the shaker sound different at 5:40 than 5:50?

Scott, great demo. There was a few times where the look on your face appeared to be the result of something entirely different than simply playing a guitar. But after watching a few times, I got over the feeling that your head was going explode @ 8:10..LOL

I think digitech got this almost dead right, the omission of a basic drum machine (not glorified metronome) is pretty much unforgivable. In fact theres still not a "perfect" machine on the market, the jm4 is close BUT you cant change guitar patches with your feet (i dont think). I expect the next generation of looper/processors to be all a guitarist needs for practice/composing. (the GNX3/4 was an attempt BUT accessing the looper was too awkward and the 8 track unnecessary)
abergreg 1 year ago
@abergreg For me, that really wasn't that big of a deal. I don't really use the drum machines but I use the metronome every day. My beef with it is that there's no tempo control except your tapping. I keep song lists that have the BPMs of the songs. I'd like to be able to dial right into that. Right now, I have to use an external metronome to get the beat, then I try tapping it in but the JamMan will never get it "just right", and then I curse at it, and finally "settle" on what it gives me.
ScottWhigham 1 year ago
@ScottWhigham Something as basic as a digitech rp100 has a decent drum machine and the bpm is simple to set with a rotary control. Now if i could just sync the two together!
abergreg 1 year ago
@abergreg - you can change guitar patches with your feet on the JM4.

Just got mine today. You sure do have it figured out nicely. Great post and playing. Really is a jam session with this thing! Now I just got to get it figured out too. lol.

I had an RC-50 but couldn't play and work the slide rule you need to figure it out at the same time. You've hit the nail on the head and I'm ordering one now...

tomorrow ill go to my local guitar shop test this out, i wanted to buy boss rc-2, but this looks to have more features but its more expensive too... i want to ask becouse ive seen on some forums that loops are less quality when im using overdrive from valve amp, next i want to ask how good its made, cos i dont want to spend 250 euro and then return it back, and the last question is... someone told that the imported files from this loop station are in PC very bad quality.... ty for help
lunapuwn 1 year ago
@lunapuwn just as an aside, if you're running the jamman before your amp distortion, you're going to have distorted tones on all your phrases. Perhaps you knew this, but thought I'd say it. You may be able to run it in an effects loop, but I'm not sure.

Can we stop the loop and begin again later ? save the Loop ?
Sorry but I'm French ( it's ever too terrible for me... so shh !)^^
Marchmalllow 1 year ago
@Marchmalllow Yes, you can. It saves it on the little Flash card
ScottWhigham 1 year ago
And how many seconds ?
Marchmalllow 1 year ago
@Marchmalllow I don't know - however long 2GB takes up on the flash card! I've done multi-layered loops longer than 5 minutes

@qwecars Thanks lol - made me smile :D

simple structures sound better on a looper if you try and over play it, each loop sounds like you just put different songs on top of songs even if in the same key. It takes a while to learn how to back up your own licks, you pretty much have to do the call and answer type blues style until you get the complexities down enough to layer up complicated parts, if you just throw your meanest licks at the thing you lose control, K.I.S.S. is a phrase to remember

cool rythym were did u get the looper

@alexfeuchter1000 I bought it locally from someone off of craigslist

Sounds great mate!

I had no idea that it would not have a drum sound, but just a click Ouch!

is it like the boss loopstation does it come with drum settings are is it just the metrenome beat in the back ground?

Great demo, thanks. How does it work as a sampler? Can I input riffs and loops from tracks via my ipod for example?
luckyjack4444 1 year ago
great. Now I NEED one
Jungleboy867 1 year ago
When I play over my loop, I either can't hear my loop or can't hear the lead i'm playing. Do I have to player the loop on another speaker?
GibsonGuitarist666 1 year ago
@GibsonGuitarist666 Not in this video I don't - they just go through the same channel. In my live rig, I do split it into Channel A = loop and Channel B = live. If you can't hear the loop or lead, you need to turn up the volume of each on the pedal
ScottWhigham 1 year ago
@GibsonGuitarist666
it happens the same to me with the jamMan solo, i just need to turn down the volume while recording and then it's ok
mattimat2000 1 year ago
Awesome man. I was thinking of buying one but now I defiantly have to
HeroH80 1 year ago

Jkaterchannel 1 year ago
@Jkaterchannel Thanks :) That sounds like a neat setup. I just picked up an ABY box and have been running the JamMan's loops through the "clean" channel and then playing through the "dirty" channel over it - all controlled by the ABY. Love it!

@ScottWhigham do a review of the boss rc-20 !!!
killakid443 1 year ago
@killakid443 Now that's a good idea! I really should. I need to find one and borrow it to show it off. It really is a good pedal.

gtrjoe68 1 year ago
I like your vid. So @ 2:31 you can record your songs down on the jam man for small show???? How many songs??? would it be 99 songs per the selectors???
gtrjoe68 1 year ago
@gtrjoe68 Yes and yes. You can do very complex songs with many overdubs or, from what I understand, even use .wav files!
ScottWhigham 1 year ago
hey Scott
I have a jamman as well and I've been pretty happy with it, except from the fact that you can only undo the last overdub you recorded.. So if for example I start by recording some sort of bass, then I overdub to add a rythm guitar and then I keep jamming on top of it. Now if I want to remove the bass that is not possible anymore, I can only remove the rythm guitar. Im thinking about buying the boss rc-50,cause you can actually control each overdub, its volume etc.what do you think?
radiohavana99 1 year ago
@radiohavana99 Yeah, that is a downside. I like the size of it compared to the Boss one though. I like the Boss but it doesn't fit on my pedalboard!
ScottWhigham 1 year ago
hey great demo scott , really informative nice skills on the gat too!!! im deffo getting a loop station but as with anything for guitar and pedals its like a mine field...im looking at the boss rc2 or rc20 , but im really liking this jamman now....i like the idea of the mic input....does boss ones not have this?? how much was the jamman? thanx and great vid
tabulaerasae82 1 year ago
@tabulaerasae82 Thanks! I think the Boss RC50 has it but not the RC20 however it's been months since I've looked so double check! I bought mine for somewhere in the $200ish range used

Looking forward to the new 4 button Stereo Jamman in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the demo, by the way.
thefacelessmonster 2 years ago
Oooh hadn't heard about that one - I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
ScottWhigham 2 years ago
Hi. Just a quick question about your soloing. What scale/mode is that from around 9:15-9:33? Dorian?
thefacelessmonster 2 years ago
Hmmmm - no idea! Probably some sort of Dorian with just using leading notes to tease my way up and around the other notes in the scale. TBH I'm not very good at describing that sort of thing though. It's been 15+ years since I had a music theory course or thought of that stuff!
ScottWhigham 2 years ago
Fantastic Demo. When you start the initial first loop it counts you down 4 beats, does it keep counting you down for everyloop or right away it starts you going over that first loop?
RitchieBlackmore8855 2 years ago
Thanks for the comments!
It goes into the loop straight away - no more counting you down. It only counts down 1x. When you stop the first recording, it goes straight into the loop. If you overdub, it begins recording immediately when you hit the pedal.

ScottWhigham 2 years ago
That was awesome! I agree with Billy..definitely great chops. I'm debating a buying a looper for my acoustic-elec and I was going to get the BOSS looper..
Thanks again and awesome music. How'd you learn to play those riffs and stuff?
Bawoo 2 years ago
Thanks! As for learning, who knows - I've been playing 25+ years and you pick things up along the way, I guess! Practice x 3 :)
ScottWhigham 2 years ago
Loved this!!! You've got some very nice chops. I just picked a JamMan up yesterday and am trying to get going with it. This video is great...it really helps. I'm interested in laying in drums, bass and keys. Looping is such a creative booster.

Thanks for the comments - I hope you enjoy yours. I tell you what - it really, really helps me as a "creative booster" as you say.
