Lots of jazz, even classical composers have been known to completely throw melody away in favour of creating something harsh, something that truly personifies anger. I think that's why Converge are popular, and it's one of the reasons I like them. I've never heard something so brutal, so filled with raw emotion. Nobody does cacophony like Converge.

I like everything, but specially the guitar player! I think he´s a good player. There´s something about the guitar that makes this music really powerful and heavy, but at the same time melodic and very energetic.

Jacob Bannon has to be one of the best front men I've ever seen. He knows how to get an audience excited and how to put on a good show, as do the rest of Converge do as well. I saw them about a week ago in Brighton UK and they opened up with Concubine and I seriously thought the whole venue was about to explode! Deffinitly one of the best shows I've ever witnessed.

@AndyAgony If you think that's just random noise, you weren't listening very closely (admittedly, the audio on this isn't great, but I'd highly recommend finding the studio version of the song). This is an impressive performance of an incredibly technical, precise, difficult song.

man... i saw them opening up for mastodon and dethklok in november, i only saw the last two or three songs...including concubine. these guys are so raw and brutal, but i wish i was as into them then as i am now. converge ftw.
Don't get me wrong, I love Dethklok and Metalocalypse. But, Dethklok's stuff isn't all that impressive. Let's also not forget the long line of metal bands who've been influenced heavily by Converge's sound. They're fucking pioneers. They (along with Coalesce and Botch) have been playing a highly mimicked sound before it had become so widely known and recognized. It's cool if you don't like them, but at least pay respect where it's due.
im not sure if you know this. But Dethklok is not real. It is a cartoon. The music was made mostly by Brenden Small and while is still fucking awesome, is not really meant to be taken that seriously, you douche. i can understand cannibal corpse even before corpsegrinder. When i first heard this, all i heard was BUTT FUCK, BUTT. over and over again. in my opinion (key words there) but i think that converge was liked by people who liked him as a person. then stupid little kids joined the bandwagon

There's so much anger and aggression in their music. Raw is probably one of the best words I can use to describe it. A consequence of that with the vocals, however, is that the lyrics are completely moot. You can't even vaguely discern what they are. This is a shame because, reading them on their website, the lyrics are interesting and thought provoking.

I'm planning to see these guys next month in Philly. I've never seen them before but is this video a good representation for Bannon's live vocals? I love these guys and while Bannon's studio vocals aren't my favourite I still think the work very well for this kind of music. He sounds pretty shitty in this video though which is a shame since everyone else sounds amazing.

I hate vocalists in metal/hardcore bands. "I'M SCREAMING THAT MEANS OUR MUSIC IS AGGRESSIVE!!!!! GRRRRR!!!!!!" Honestly, it takes away from the talent and ability of the band. These guys and/or most other metal/hardcore/whatever bands would be so much better instrumental.

hardcore is such a broad genre. if you look at this compared to hardcore pioneers like minor threat and bad brains and so on, they sound nothing alike. although, converge is definetly more true than most of the bands that abuse the genre. IT'S NOT A SCENE, IT'S A FUCKING CULTURE!!

Concubine = amazing song. Bannon's voice live = fucking terrible. Seriously. I hate when vocalists sound nothing like they do on record and Bannon is no exception here.

Preach that shit. Converge is one of the most real bands out there. All the emo fags don't realize that all of those shitty bands they listen to are all influenced by Converge. But scene fagots can't relate to real music I guess and would rather support the mainstream shit labels that claim to be "indie", but are really subsidiaries of major labels, like Vagrant, Fueled By Raman, Victory, blablabalbal. Obviously Converge isn't for everyone. But all the haters are really missing out, Jane Doe is a phenomenal album, the songs 'Phoenix in Flight' and 'Jane Doe' could even be described as beautiful, especially the vocals. Anyone complaining about how he doesn't sing properly can go watch X-factor.

i just like bands that can sing, i like good melody to songs as well, i can deal with the hardcore stuff, but like i said, they have to be able to sing if i want to continue to listen to them, like the band A Day To Remember. they can do some good singing like the song Monument, but then u listen to Heartless and thats songs fuckin rad!

I like bands that hit strait to your face and Converge is definitly one of the best for that.
ADTR is just slut-pop, they can sing but above all they suck.
You need to train your hears over and over before apreciate that band. But if you just "can deal" with hxc, just continu to listen to slut-pop...

anyone who says these guys suck is a moron. Probably the best drummer and guitarists of any metal/hardcore band period. Their timing is fucking genius. And as for Bannon's vocals and artwork that he does on their cd's and dozens of other artist's cd's, he is fucking unbelievable. So FUCK YOU if you can't appreciate this music, go listen to your shitty hip hop or simple rock songs. I'm going to kill people to this music in March at ICC!!

There's so much anger and aggression in their music. Raw is probably one of the best words I can use to describe it. A consequence of that with the vocals, however, is that the lyrics are completely moot. You can't even vaguely discern what they are. This is a shame because, reading them on their website, the lyrics are interesting and thought provoking.

I'm planning to see these guys next month in Philly. I've never seen them before but is this video a good representation for Bannon's live vocals? I love these guys and while Bannon's studio vocals aren't my favourite I still think the work very well for this kind of music. He sounds pretty shitty in this video though which is a shame since everyone else sounds amazing.

I don't understand why some people come here saying "they suck!", i just don't. If you know how to play one instrument like guitar or drums, you can see that these guy's know what they're doing. And his voice, people...remember it's one more instrument and it matches in perfection with the music.

I hate vocalists in metal/hardcore bands. "I'M SCREAMING THAT MEANS OUR MUSIC IS AGGRESSIVE!!!!! GRRRRR!!!!!!" Honestly, it takes away from the talent and ability of the band. These guys and/or most other metal/hardcore/whatever bands would be so much better instrumental.

hardcore is such a broad genre. if you look at this compared to hardcore pioneers like minor threat and bad brains and so on, they sound nothing alike. although, converge is definetly more true than most of the bands that abuse the genre. IT'S NOT A SCENE, IT'S A FUCKING CULTURE!!
