here are some pointers. dont go from the stretch unless there is someone on base. aleays go from the windup to lift ur leg up more and get the extra 5-8 mph on ur fastball.

Explosive? you wish. our junkballer has got a better motion then that. probobly playing on some Rec all-star team or something to the effect. Even more sad is that the coach, probobly some father who wants to kid to have fun, doesn"t correct his mistake. Kids at my age and a little below (11-13) should focus more on there mechanics then looking good. I don't care how hard he throws but if he pitches like THAT, well.
his release point is not good he throws like 40 not 60 and his mechanics are just bad period and he never came set he had like 600 balks hes GOING to have an arm injury soon if u dont teach him how to pitch
@Mr59strat His leg kick is not a leg kick. He's slide stepping to home plate. Kid proboably has a really high leg kick so his coach compansated and gave him a slide step. I just sped up my leg kick in the strech, and raised a little lower. In the winduphe can have that obnoxiously long leg kick though.

@xadrai Rec ball, go figure. At age 12-14 and your not playing competitive ball you should be sitting at home doing something other then playing baseball in a leauge. Not saying it's bad, but from a metro baseball stand point i dont see anything in rec baseball after that point.
Perhaps you should spend less time on the field and more time in the classroom. Baseball is intended to be fun. If you want to be elitist, graduate from high school and play at a higher level, THEN pop off. But be aware that those of us that have accomplished this try not to cop your attitude because we understand how humbling the game is.
58-60 mph pitches are not bad but they are not great either. I pitched 55mph at that age and I was an average pitcher at my park. Our fastest pitcher was throwing 72mph heat.
Teach him to throw junk. A good array of pitches is better to have then just having heat, which i don't think this kid really has. Plus, you run the risk of blowing your arm out early if over used. Slider, Circle change, and Running Fastball are some great choices
Also, remind him to come set. He's balking every pitch.
Clean, Balk, Balk, crushed. And the slide step is the single best way to cause elbow problems at about 17. It is a horrible invention that should never be used by anyone that doesn't enjoy Ulnar Collateral Ligament replacement.
