  • Try turning the heating down and keeping the window wide open. I've also heard that keeping the Power supply off of the ground helps alot.

  • 7 tips to stop rrod

    1. dust your xbox regulary about once a month use compressed air if needed take cause of to get all dust out

    2. keep in open area free of dust and not in a small area under something

    3. keep in cool environment have windows open or a fan blowing to it

4 get an intercooler fan at the back but not one that uses xbox 360 power 5.keep power brick cool and in open area try to ventil and dust the power brick aswell6. never and i mean never put on carpet

    7. dont stand it up!

  • i have this problem to but for some reason i dont get it in the dash board i can stay there for like 5 hours and no red lights and i also noticed that it only seems to happen on my favorite game (COD WAW) but i doubt its the game cause why would it give me red rings??? does anyone else have this problem were it only happens on certain games?

  • @gangstakid400 it happens to all my games but its been 6 monnths to this comment have u fixed ur xbox?

  • @GioVelaX10 yeah i sent it to microsoft nd they fixed it free

  • @gangstakid400 For free??? How???

  • @GioVelaX10 i just called them nd told them its a new xbox nd tht its never been repaired nd then they just said sent it over we will send you a box. so i sent them my xbox for free nd they repaired it for free idk why but i just didint have to pay it was free nd i already got it repaired/gave me a new xbox like 4 or 5 diffrent times so its been free for me :D

  • when it did that was the game trapped inside there?

  • try this take a baseball bat and introduce it to the xbox 360 then take the pieces and put them in the microwave for about 3 hours then when they are nice and crisp send it to microsoft as an early christmas gift, go out and buy a PS3

  • yes, mines overheats in 2. so yes it is overheating

  • My xbox keeps getting overheating and its really pissing me off! and i mean i turn it on and like 5 to 10 min it overheats! so my brother is blaming me about it and i wanna fix it coz i dont wanna buy a new one-____- (yes im cheap lol)

well if you can help me by fixing this huge as mother fucken problem email me isabellamoves@aol.com

    or here i guess. Thanks.

  • @isabellamoves13 try dusting it there could be dust inside the xbox if your scared of taking it apart you can do 2 things

1 call urself a pussy and do it anyway

2 use canned air and spray it into the little hole thingys

    worked for me

  • WTF? 4 ring is overheat i should know

  • mine took like 2 min cause i was experimenting with my xbox 360 by putting tape over the back ventalation i felt it it was pretty darn hot

  • This keeps happing to me :(

  • 2 red lights is all I need before my xbox has had all the red rings of death and I have never had to take it apart or get a new since I bought my first one because Im just that damn good.

  • you need to open your xbox and then blow the dust out of the heat sink with some compressed air. there is a video on how to open your xbox up very easy. go give it a try it worked for me.

  • My xbox has been off for 15 hours and I am having problems.

  • this happened to me while playing MW2 only few exp from prestige.

  • Bill Gates and Microsoft are thieves, let them make this crap for the govt and see what would happen.

  • lol i got E74 (issue with av cables inside 360)

1 week to fix i sent it to microsoft now its fine its the same one it has the some barcode and the same scratch but the may send u a refurbished on my gamertag: Jerraldough

  • i just never play my xbox for 3 years because i didient have games for it now i do and i works fine gamertag paparoch223

  • Okay, I was watching this yesterday because I had the same problem... First I would like to say that you SHOULD NOT get the Nyko Intercooler at all..They actually help overheat the system faster and Second, Have you tried unplugging everything from the box including hard drive and Blowing compressed air (blowing air with your mouth works too) at a 45 degree angle or so into all of the ventilation holes? That solution worked for me and I can play it like I used to again. xD

  • YESS FOR ME i have put assassin and BAM :O

  • ya it happens for me with that 2 but i fixed it

  • you got red rings because you put assassins creed in....

  • I am having a problem where I have replaced the x brackets with screws and when I start the xbox, the fans run then stop and i get two red lights. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but then the power bar turns orange. PLEASE someone help me

  • i have the same exact problem.. fix it yet?

  • tried the penny trick, now i have 2 rings, the fans stopped working, and the damn thing wont even ture on, let alone play new games

  • yeah i just got this issue i got home at 2 and i played fight night 3 4 an hour than opoed in my used copy of nba 2k7 after5 mins it goes 2 rings

  • lay it down flat man, notice the huge air vent on the bottom, that you are preventing air from getting in when it stands vertical. Keep the power box well ventilated as well.

  • Comment removed

  • well sit it on its side it is better all i got but it might work

  • i have the same problem i opended it up and no dust....cpu wasnt loose has to be something els if u guys dont know what error it is so u can look it up on google or something the (overheating error is 0013)

  • The same thing happened to me ive gotten two red lights and three red lights before i took out all the cables and wires from the ports even the power cord and blew out all the dust in it and there was so much dust obstructing the fans it wasnt event funny i almost choked and had an asthma attack but then i left it alone for a while and got all the dust out and it worked fine.

  • I FOUND A SOLUTION!!!

    -----------------------------------------

well, 1st i took my xbox360 appart to the bare motherboard, and found that my cpu heatsink was loose. I was like WTF. so i plugged meh shit back into the xbox, and pressed firmly down on the heatsink and wala it was fixed :D.

    hope this has helped.

  • Thanks, BibBoobsLover!

  • @bigboobslover22 Please help me with solving the same problem.. eventually a video? =)

  • you have to take it apart then you have to make the 2 chips in the xbox clean then put a thermal compound on them thats better.microsoft puts on the cheapest kind and it messes up.or just look at "buskirkd" channel

  • yo,

right get a fan take all the cabels out of your xbox and your hardrive put the fan behind it make sure the xbox is standing up ike yours in the video and let the fan blow on 2 for 20 minutes through the back and and then once 20 mins has been put it on 3 for 10 mins the put all the plugs back in and enjoy your xbox again!

  • Turn off the fan in your computer for 5 seconds... tell me what happens? IT OVERHEATS. overheating doesn't take an hour....

  • yeah im having the same problem with my xbox :@ add me on xbox live my gamertag is iiELECTROZz x thanks mate : ) x

  • u can ship to microsoft is better

  • yes, just make sure you dont open up the xbox, or else that will break this electronic seal inside and they cant accept it for repairs or refunds or anything

  • ok i hope all of you guys are reading this ok imy xbox had the 3 ring of death and ive been doing the towel trick but it only werked 4 a lil while den i decided 2 try another way of cooling it down so i poured water in da back of the xbox now it hardly works at all but den my dads friend said dat it was sticky inside and culdnt do it but now i have the 2 red rings now wen i turn it on i hear a loud air noise den its stops and only the red rings stay on what do i do?

  • you have multiple problems that are easy fixes

    1. YOUR A FUCKING IDIOT.

    2. YOU DON'T PUT WATER IN/ON AN XBOX

    3. LEARN PROPER ENGLISH.

  • @chickenman2 "LEARN PROPER ENGLISH"

I feel so compelled to point out the 'your - you're' error here... Oh bittersweet irony...

  • with 3 red lights, microsoft is supposed to refund your 360 for free.

with 2 red lights, you have to repair it, get a new one, or look at the ways the people have gotten theirs fixed. (opening it up, towel tricks, etc)

we just got a new one.

  • @thecultguy

Are you even fucking reading what this retard just typed? He poured water inside the fucking xbox. Its Fubar.

  • good joke, pouring water in your xbox. haha as if anyone would actually do that. OR actually use the towel trick

  • First thing you want to do is pour a can of coca-cola down the back of the x-box, next go to the mirror and tell yourself your an idiot.

  • @ryharwood let me guess PS3 fan boy

  • Ha HA, no but i did fix my own X-box that was over heating. Just take it apart very easy to do just look for a video to show you how. Then clean all the dirt from inside of it. Mine would over heat after just a few minutes after i did this i hasn't overheated once. It's been over a month.

  • @ryharwood alright my bad for assuming. thx for that though. My 360 is currently getting repaired because Of 3 red rings. later man.

  • this only happens when i play World at War

  • same here

  • same here

  • take it apart and clean it

  • crappy system indeed. 3rd xbox 360. than i called microsoft to fix it for me but the bastards said my warranty was over. most unreliable system ever made. my super nes still works and i had that since the 90's when i was a kid. saving up to buy a ps3. thats what i recommend.

  • haha i know what you mean.

our snes has survived longer than any of our other damn consoles

  • awsome game crappy concole

  • Ok guys i already fix it # 1 open ur xbox disconect the fans for 10 to 15 minutes then let it cool down conncet the fans again and voala it works (i have to say that i already put the flat washes #8 between the gpu and the xclamp and did the same in the cpu and u have to clean the thermal paste well to be honest i just took apart the clamp and without separate the cooler from the gpu o cpu put the washers on the scrws or whatever then put the xclamp

  • Why do you have the console standing vertically!? I know Microsoft adveritised it that way but it needs to be horizontal. Make sure all the vents are open and that the console is away from other potential heat sources, like your Power Pack which happens to be 2 inches away. Same applies for the powerpack. Keep it away from other electronics and heat sources, and keep it's vents open to air.

  • haha the yellow light of death =P

  • ok well i got something that might help. #1 dont use intercooler if you are.

#2 open your xbox and see if you regular fans are working with no dust in them.

#3 your x-clampsmight be broken or loose.

Either replace your x-clamps(search youtube for x-clamp fix) or tighten your x-clamps and remove the thermal paste, and place 4 peice of credit cars around the cpu and gpu.. check lawldawg or whatever, his video.

Hope it helped b ut when u do this i HIGHLY suggest getting a cooling mod.

  • this happens to me 2 i dunno how to fix it

  • im preety sure it is because the brick needs to be in some cold place

  • i opened mine and its had no signs of dust any where and it still overheats every 20 min.

  • Ok! the problem is because the cooling system lets air pass through it right! and if to much dust gets into the cooling system then it traps more of the hot air not allowing it to get to the fans that would push out the hot air.

the best way to fix is open it up and carefully hover the cooling system and then wipe it down with a dry cloth.

  • I just got that problem about 8-9 hours ago while playing gta4. A couple minutes ago I turned it on and after 5-10 minutes it happened again while playing gta4. Im pretty sure it might be the game although I used to play that game 24/7 when it came out. All I know now is that microsoft needs to make sure they're making quality merch before sending it to people. And I JUST BOUGHT A FIFTY DOLLAR MICROSOFT POINT CARD!!!!!!!!!!

  • your xbox 360 is not overheating, how can it overheat in one minute lol, its probaly something else wrong with it.

  • actually it is overheating considering thats what microsoft has defined the problem as

  • nice speakers

  • I think certain games produce more heat.

  • it really seems that way!!

we could go hours playing one game.. then put in another game that would crash before we could get to the main menus

  • no mateer what game I play, this happens.

  • the one with bright light does

  • try vaccuming out your console

  • Turn off that fucking music, that music has been ruined by all the fags using it on youtube

  • our original music got taken down by youtube and they replaced it with Bodies.

    so shut the hell up

  • woa calm down you fuckng three year old, maybe you should learn to shut up yourself instead of lairing off people twice your size eh?

  • lol so youre saying youre twice the size of a 3 year old? how intimidating

  • lol he's 3x the size of a 3 year old!!!!! Let's run away before he beats us with is milk bottle!!!!!on second though, punt him.

  • 2 rings of death is not really a problem it means your 360 needs cleaned out it is dusty put an intercooler on it. It will help prevent 3 rings

  • i played prototype for about 30 mins and once i got on cod nazi zombies it overheated can it be the game?

  • 2 red lights is overheat

  • you shuold take everthing apart if u dont have to warranty there should be alot of dust in the xbox360 thats how i fixed mine go spell how to open xbox console and clean your system

  • mine gets that now and then and neverat same times or nothing i do not have a clue y tho

  • i have the same fucking problem. it gets it for cod5 gh and nba 2k9. any other game works idk what to do.

  • i left mine off for 12 hours it still hapened.

  • So just Follow one of the tutorials that are posted on this web domain......... I done it and they work ( Dont Do the Towel one)

  • >>>>>> Its because its already overheated before so all the technical shit inside has melted onto the mother bored, so when you turn it on, because its already close to the mother board it doesnt need mutch heating....... Doesnt take a briniac to figure that out.............

  • that happens where ever you put it if you have the same problem i have it too. you just take it apart until you get to just the mother board and you put the thermal paste on the 2 chips under the things the fan cools down. the problem is that those chips overheat

  • Ok, this is nothing. I've had my Xbox for 9 months and I've gotten the Overheat RROD litteraly 12 times. I've gotten it once in just 20 minutes. But, all thats needed is using some "canned air" to clean out the 360. Then, I have a homemade fan in the back of the Xbox. This pulls out the warm air, and lets the cool in. I also have the bottom lifted up on paint stirrers to give ventalation even further. It is also pulled out on a shelf.

  • MY FAN DOESNT EVEN WORK wat should i do?

  • its seems to be the xbox fans that are not sucking out much air

  • open it an put a fan directly to the motherboard and all the components

  • Take the X clamps off, there shit and just cause problems with your xbox! , TBH i think its poor soldering on the chipboard

  • 1. take the brick away from the damn box retard. 2. take it apart and clean the metal peice in front of the white vaccum. 3. get rid of that shitty game

  • well you shud try to open it (use a guide or somthing) then clean the dust.

  • see my xbox does the same thing sometimes as fast others a little longer so i tried a few things

    1) sucking dust out all possible vents

    2) putting my xbox i the middle of my room

still did it so did some research and found out that it could be the power supply getting to hot so i moved the power supply next to my window and i always have the window open so its nice and cool and so far it seems to be working... however the other day the sun was on the PS and it got really hot and overheated

  • this is what the problem most likely is..

    1. dust is clogging up your console therefore blocking majore fans & clamps from working.

    2. your Xclamp isn't tightened to the heatsink tight enough, therefore resulting in complete overheat in a matter of 4 minutes.

the same thing happened to me, it was the Xclamp. i tried sucking out all the dust with a vacuum, but it didn't work, resulting in me sending it away for a month.

  • We just got a 360, it does the same thing, would you like a video of that too? :( Im sick of Microsoft at this point. Honestly, if theyre so brilliant- why the heck is it doing it within 4 minutes of gameplay? ''Overheating" should definitely take at least an hour in low quality imo

  • just like my xbox... overheats in the first 4 minutes.

  • Suck my balls.

  • dude, xren, youre really gay

  • and throw away more money?.nice solution dipshit

  • wow mine just started dooing this like today.. :( wtf... is it always gunna do this now?

  • Fuck im sick of x box, im on my 3rd one now, they all overheat! within 1 month of the warranty expiring, 4 in a fucking row and they wont cover unless there is 3 red lights

  • put your xbox down

  • yea, thats pretty lame...i can sit and play CoD4 for up to 4 hrs...but i play GTAIV for not even 30 minutes and it "overheats" sounds like a bullshit excuse, they need to go ahead and call it the TWO red rings of death as well.

  • same shit just happened to me today

  • I got my 360 like a year ago and it does the exact same thing but on GTA4 Every time i try to connect to online anything the game just shuts off and i have two red rings of "overheat" even though my 360's been off for like a day and i also don't have my warranty papers

  • thats the same case with us. we got the 2 red rings pretty much right after our warranty expired. well there are a few options, but theres no true, guaranteed solution that we know of at the moment.

some people say theyve fixed theirs by opening it up and following tutorials online on how to fix it.

but I don't recommend that you do that mainly because if you ever get the chance to turn it in for repairs, they won't be able to accept an xbox thats been opened up by the user.

  • No offence, but i think that the xbox is inthe wrong place as well. if there is any heat on in the house, move the 360 to another place. the wall also may be capturing the heat and radiating it back into the ventilation spot. The Power supply may also be gettin warm, or there may be to much power coming into it.

  • but if you know for a fact that you're not going to be turning yours in for repairs, or if you're going to buy a brand new one all together, or if you have already opened yours up, then by all means go ahead and look online for tutorials on how to fix it.

I know it's frustrating, but i hope ive helped at least a little bit.

  • mine started to break right wen i got my assasins creed and i randomly got it and i still have the same problem and its been like 4 months

  • Same exact case as us, if you have the 2 rings.

We got our Brand New copy at Christmas, but still haven't gotten the chance to play the game for more than 5 minutes at a time!

Thanks for your comment, we'll keep you posted!

  • ::UPDATE::

We have a new XBOX 360.

Since our other one only had 2 red lights, we couldnt turn it in.

So, we bought a new one.

BUT, we will still try and get the new one fixed and/or turned in somehow.

We will still be fighting to get YOU the answers and solutions YOU need.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

    -Wes

  • hi ive had my xbox 6 months it seems wierd but the red lights happen faster when i play music im sending mine back to xbox for repairs

its a pain pls message me

  • OMG same thing happened to me today!!! i havent played my xbox 360 in about 6 weeks and i turned it on and after like 2 minutes it shut off displaying the 2 red "overheating" lights.. does anyone have the answer to this yet?? the xbox is brand new.. like seriously only 3 months old. its bullshit how my nintendo 64 still works perfectly and my xbox us already fucking broken.

  • thats EXACTLY our case.

we dont have the papers and it screws up on assassin's creed in a short amount of time.

well, we made the video to find out the answer to this problem, and we are working constantly to solve it for ourselves and for you, and for everyone else who has suffered the same situation.

when we get the ideal solution, we will get back to you as soon as possible.

    we'll keep you posted!

  • After i finished playing r6v. My brother played gta4 and surprisingly everything was alright. No red lights. I just don't get it. I hope the dreaded red lights won't come back.

  • This only happens to me when i'm playing gta4 but only during cutscenes. It rarely happens during gameplay. Other games are working perfectly. Could it be a bug in the game?

  • it happens with other games too.

that would be a BIG flaw if it was a bug in the game.

    its gotta be the system.

  • it just happened to me today, i still have a pertected by warrenty so i'm just sending it in. mine lasted 6 months and all of a sudden did this after 30 minets of gta 4

  • UPDATES:

Our 360 officially died in February, if you do not already know. The disc tray will not open, and even when forcibly opened, no discs are detected inside the console. Let us know if you seem to have this issue, we may be able to connect them somehow.

Also, ours lasted about 3x as long when it was run in HD as opposed to a standard TV. Has anyone else noticed or tried this?

  • my xbox 360 disc tray jams if i close it with no game. i used to be able to jam it out with a knife but now im gonna get it repaired cuz its stuck opened and wont close

  • Okay. im commenting to see if anyone can help me. my 360 was not played for like a week and i started playing for like a half an our and i got the two lights. so right now i am debating whether to get the fan or send it in. any help from anyone?

  • Same issue here, as you can see. Can you tell us what game caused this accident?

Our recommendation is to not get an intercooler, and don't send it in for repairs. They're asking $99 for ours to be fixed. Just buy a new one (or core system) and just keep the old hard drive.

I'm looking deeper into this, and Microsoft's explanation is a faulty internal heat sink. A fan will keep it going for probably 10 more minutes at most. Take it from us.

  • i can't remember what game caused it. but im pretty sure i have a warrenty so that it is free if i send it in. not 100% sure of where the box it came in is so that might be a problem

  • yeah, i think they will need that box and stuff.

same thing happened to me, but i lost the warranty papers.

well maybe they dont need the box, but chances of that are slim.

  • that happend to me but with GTA4 all i did was turn off for 4hours and it was good as new

  • Yeah this happened to me. My warranty was void so I figured I would try to fix it myself. It was very dusty on the inside. I thought that was the problem so I cleaned of all the dust with a compressed air bottle. There was no dust left when I closed it up, but when I turned it on thinking I had solved the problem 1 min after I put in COD4, 2 red lights! I don't know what is wrong with it because the fan is working and its not getting any hotter than it normally gets so how is it overheating?

  • I think I may have figured it out. I thought it was the 360 that was overheating, but I found a site that said the power bricks can also overheat causing the 2 red lights. So I unplugged my power cord cooled it of with a fan and my 360 worked for about 40 min then got the 2 red lights. I think my power brick needs to be replaced. I probably have unplugged the power brick once or twice since I got my 360, no wonder it broke. Maybe you just need to replace the power brick?

  • hmm, maybe, but it sounds too good to be true to just have that be the problem

its one of those "if only it were that easy" kind of deals.

  • same fukin problem microsft are gay

  • Ok

my 360 kept overheating like every 10 minutes and i tried cleaning it but i was afraid to take it aprt. then i called and my warranty was up so i took it apart and there was soo much dust and i used a vacume and now my 360 is almost new!!

There is a video on how to take it apart

  • yea gi got the same prblem it works for ever on cod but gears it overheats in 20 mins same with battefield beta and rainvbow six vegas 2 any one know how to fix???

  • yea gi got the same prblem it works for ever on cod but gears it overheats in 20 mins same with battefield beta and rainv=bow six vegas 2 any one know how to fix???

  • It happened really fast for us with Gears of War and the original Rainbow Six Vegas. But for Call of Duty 4 it did last quite a while. Odd...

  • yeah i got the permanent 2 flashing lights

  • i guess a lot more people are coming out saying theyre having the same problem.

one guy opened his and fixed it, but dont attempt it if you want to take it in for repairs.

opening it would break a seal and they wont be allowed to take it in for repairs.

    :/

  • hay have you checked out that vid i said i'd post bout the fixed 360 in a new case?, no probs since making!

  • yeah, but we're not allowed to open it, we called them up and they said if they were to make repairs, we arent allowed to open it

it would break a seal inside or soemthing.

    :/

but congrats on a successful operation!

    haah

  • i left mine off to cool for 2 days and it still does it and when im playing a fan is blasting at it

  • exactly same happens to mine....microsoft want £60 to fix, fuck em

Anyone know how to intentionally get 3 red lights for a free fix??

  • YEAH mine does the same thing, my console only works in winter to prevent overheating which is bullshit

  • The same thing happens with my xbox. First it only happend with one game. then more and more

  • yeah, exactly what happened to ours,

first its just one game, then before you know it, none of your games work.

    :/

  • The same thing happens with my xbox. First it only happend with one game. then more and more

  • i get mind 2 lights on the left side (when flat)

  • Just so everybody knows, our Xbox 360 died, completely, in late February, but I'm still open to suggestions for others that have the same problem. Thanks a lot!

  • Get an Intercooler

  • I get 2 red lights at the bottom of my xbox's ring. When i turn on the console everything is fine, it works, but the controllers won't connect.

  • hmm, never heard that one before.

  • sorry will upload vsoon

  • will have a new vid in about a week see i've been testing a new case with fans i've made and its looking good.

  • i just got that like 5mins ago

  • will have a new vid on in about a week, see i've been testing a new case with fans i've made and its looking good so far
