  • 2:34 does she have a sleepy eye?

  • you sure that is a model?

  • spot on, answered what i needed to know.

  • Thank you for sharing your knowledge

    Sincerely Karon

  • the results are fantastic....i like the background as well ...the red makes it even better..thanks for the vid...

  • you fucking morons, nikon sucks ya know. canon 5d2 pawns that piece of shit

  • Is that a McDonalds sign in the window???

  • Nice demo.

  • quite usefull info, thanks, i do wonder why you would buy the expensive speedlights, as opposed to some studio lights???

    cheers don

  • the photo on 2:19 is the best of the bunch, nice job

  • send the model back home.

  • It looks good with the gels!

  • nice video...i enjoy thank u for you advice....i have a new camera nikon d700 but i dont know wtf i doing...

  • Cabaran PLZ upload some new lessons for the begginner photographers like me. I like the way u give a suggestion and explanation, we r waitin!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice Video! And nice results!

My qustion is - how did you balance the lights, that is, how did you know how much power to use on each light?

Did you use a flash meter? Did you use your "feeling" didi you measure or just treid one light after another, or all at the same time and tried then to balance the lights?

    kind regards from germany

  • sorry but i didn't like the results at all. strange perspective e. g.

  • I have two sb-600's and a D90 I use in commander mode. I thought about getting 2 sb-800's but the only benefit with those I saw was possibly down the line using them with radio transmitters directly into the flashes. The sb-600, 800, and 900 are all great.

  • Thanks for sharing. Was the SU-800 necessary -- could you have used the D700's own commander.

  • Great shots! Thanks for sharing. The SB600 behind that Japanese screen is triggered by SU800 too?

  • You shot some wonderful images of your model, Very nice indeed.

I wonder how other photographers take pictures of her?!

    Well done!

  • nicely done!

  • nice video mate, thanks for sharing!

Have you noticed that every colombian girl always lean the head back when you photograph then?? I dont know why>??

  • Love that Japanese screen.

  • go get laid newbie

  • Pretty good Work man!!! very creative!

  • Thanks for doing the video. But your umbrella adapter is mounted backwards. The flash is off axis, so you light pattern is not even.

  • yall downing the guy the last pics using the snoot where good but i have to agree with others that model was booo and it seems more speed lights could have seperated the field of view better but hey over all its good the guy aint bad there are way worse on youtube. but as aphotographer remeber you not only have to take the picture but the creativity of the subject is key i think alot of guys claming photography as there job lack creativity her clothes sucked the back drop was kinda wack

  • Yeah I agree.

His photos came out well lit but in my opinion, he should of atleast changed the lighting around and gave it a more dramatic look as oppose to a flat look.

  • that is not the point of this video

he is teaching flash technics not composition.

  • I love it!!! ur such a great photographer!!!

  • Thanks Chris your very generous, I just got a d700 its awesome!!! I think your model is voluptuous and beautiful, so she has a lazy eye..... so what..... as a professional photographer I haven't met a perfect person yet.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • heah?!?! :)

  • actually it's "hier" from Germany language

  • ach so, er ist eigentlich auch ein Tom und auch ein Ger(y)? :)

  • Well my opinion is that you are a good photographer! But the model sometimes is a bit "boring"... I mean... the eyes, its strange! But with photoshop you can change that!

    So... congratulations! :D

  • That model, Eliana has a lazy eye that is perminately half closed. I asked her if she wanted me to photoshop her eye and she replied "but then it wouldent be me"...

Sure, if this wasnt a youtube video photoshoot, and if this video was called "check out worlds most perfect hot chicks and models" then yes, i may have corrected the eye before uploding, but its not.

whole point of this video is about being a strobist, lighting and equipment.

  • @cabaran if you have to photoshop the girls eye to make her look better then photography aint your field

  • @cabaran just a piece of advice... having the smaller eye closer to the camera and the bigger further (i.e. pointing yr model the opposite way) might not make them look exactly the same but would surely help. also u could try shooting from a little lower position.

ps. love the lighting and the red background that greatly connected with her lip color.

    goodluck

  • The model is a disaster, and you could at least look at her eyes! Expecially in the last picture: that is not simply a "nothing special, I won't choose it" picture, that's a "weird eyes, delete it now" picture! :(

The tecnique itself is... well, pretty simple and effective, but for God's sake don't destroy the models like that! :)

  • Very simple set up with great results. You got some very nice shots.

  • come on guys be nice. if you disagree, just move on. if you think this is beneath you, move on. I applaud his effort at sharing. if you think you can do better, then post a video that is better.

  • garage or garbage LOL jk

  • Wow, you got some nice pictures there. I have a question for yah, I have a Nikon D60 and a SB-600 Flash. Do I need 2 pocketwizards or 1 pocketwizard to trigger the flash wirelessly? So one on the flash and one on the camera or just one on the camera? Thanks in advance

  • you need to go to ebay and buy $25 transmitters that work just as well. one for the camera hot-shoe, one for the flash. I've had both, they both work well, and you save $750

  • Hey, nice setup. Thanks for sharing. Just curious, what type of gels did you use on your SB-600? The Nikon SJ-1 color gel pack, or rosco gels, or something else..?

  • Che cuoppo di modella :P

  • How many times did you say "here"? ^_^

    Nice video BTW

  • I counted 15 lol. Thanks :D

  • @cabaran Here, Here!

  • What gels did you use???

  • thanks for the reply Sir,so SB800 only works for the indoor photoshop, got 2 SB800 here i used one for commander the other one for flash a but i didnt try it yet for outdoor coz im planning to buy one more SB800...tnx...

  • Sir you mean the SB 800 wont work in outdoor photoshoot? Tnx..

  • The SB 800 is an excellent flash my friend. I was refering to using it with the SU-800 IR transmitter. It works good indoors, but outdoors it is not very good, because he invisible IR light cannot bounce off the walls

  • @cabaran That's a good point. I use an infra red controller for my Elinchrom studio flash but to be honest I prefer to use a radio transmitter as it can fire a flash that is hidden round a corner. I use it when I do location shoots and I want to fire a strobe at the top of the stairs when the model is at the bottom. I use it as my kick light.

  • @cabaran

Are you using any Gel Filters like red, yellow etc in last shots. Moreover please tell me why many photographer don't use speedlights instead of Monolights like you are using? what are the pros and cons?

  • Nice one - thanks for the video - now i need to buy another SB-800 ...

  • woops, I meant how did you get the rear flash to fire

  • Its all wireless using the nikon SU-800 commander. It uses IR to trigger the remote flashes. No sync cords, no radio, just IR. its good in small spaces like indoors as the signal can bounce off the walls, through transparent objects etc. Outdoors it cannot bounce hence it is less effective and does not fire. Its all cordless, he SU-800 does all the work

  • Hi, thanks for the insight. Just wondered how the flash units communicated with the commander, did you have them wired up or was it cordless. If it was cordless, how do you get the flash to fire?

    thx

  • thank you for the video!

gave me good ideas for my set!

  • Nice video. Love that you included some of the images!
