lol there are no rules about what side the brakes should be on ! you just put it the way you feel comfortable with. i like to have my front brake on the right side, even if no1 else has that, at least not in my country... but you should be careful with letting your friends ride your bike if you have a good front brake and it's on the unusual side... btw nice work ! you could easily make some cash building bikes from scratch and sell them to any beginners..lol

@maurorex the peddles should come off with a wrench ( one is a reverse thread so watch out) you need a special tool to remove a chain and put it back on, they are only cheap though.
