  • By holding the iPhone 4 that way, your palm actually covers the region where the WiFi / GMS / Bluetooth antenna meets the GSM counterpart. This effectively reduces the signal strength of the iPhone 4 which ends up in dropped calls.

  • How did u get iPhone four on micro cell it hasnt. Been working for a lot of us

  • defect from iphone antenna but not from microcell antenna it always drops when you use iphone 4 without case

  • people r stupid and damn why you goin to hold your phone like that its that how you call you have to hold it like dat

  • The funny thing is all you iphone people should watch a video on youtube called iphone 4 vs evo cause your all as dumb as the customer! Apple could put out a brick with the apple logo on it and you would think it was the best phone!

  • No shit stupid if you block the signal from a tower and you can't get signal. Then what makes you think that it's not going to block the signal from the 3G microcell. Man I hate customers they are all dumbasses!

  • My iPhone 4 consistently drops calls, even if I don't touch the left corner. Not only does it do that, but it has been calling someone else in the middle of a conversation I am having. Is anyone else having this problem?

  • so mmh you are going to carry your microcell in the trunk of your car, in your back pack and in the office??

  • I hope when the iPhone comes to verizon it doesnt drop calls! Verizon never drops calls!

  • is it true that its all ip4's with the signal issue? because when i got mine and didnt have a case, i tried a few times to force the signal issue and nothing diff happened

  • I'm still going to buy that iPhone if I have money. Seriously, I don't call that way. If I am holding my iPod at my ear, I

    1. Hold it in my right hand

    2. Don't hold it that firmly

    3. Hold it in the middle with my thumb, middle and ring finger, not at the lower end in my palm

  • @kc voice on AT&T only travels over 3G or edge, and doesn't travel over wifi. Funny, Jobs said in his press conference that they only had .55% complaints on the antenna issue. So he said the problem is only among few phones. Well both of my iPhone 4s (one is my girl's) has the same problem. Guess we are part of the half percent.

  • The phone isn't getting a bad signal because your blocking the antenna it's because your touching and antennuating it which causes the antenna to literally receive no information, which is why audio cuts out right away and the call drops after a bit because the call try to recover then fails. Basically a big bag of flesh trying to conduct the signal of an antenna doesn't work so well.

  • @MrMacFreek But mine still cuts out constantly even with a bumper case so that I am not in flesh contact with the phone! ( And i am right handed!) how can this be explained?

  • @sue4d777 That has got to be a defective iPhone. I had issues with the signal also and got a replacement from Apple for free and there are no issues

  • Update to 4.0.1 and make a new video.

  • I have the EXACT same problem! Im taking my Microcell back.

  • lesson ... dont be a beg and buy the latest phone AS SOON as it comes out... because you can garentee its going to be fail

  • If you want to make the calls drop, rub your feet on carpet(lol) and block the middle part of the two antennas.

  • Ok a couple of questions. Why would you use the microcell for 3g Service when you could use wifi which not only has a faster data rate but uses less battery than 3G. Second why not try your test on EDGE and see if that works. You might get better results with EDGE for voice than with 3G. Also why didn't you test it on the 3GS and the death grip?

  • This problem is with only some iPhone 4s my dad, sister and I just got iPhone 4s no reception problems even when we try to drop the signal

  • Holly crap is thet really how big those MicroCells are? Thats not very micro!!!

  • This is fucking bullshit propaganda. There is no problem with the iPhone 4.

RADIO WAVES GO THROUGH YOUR HAND WITHOUT A PROBLEM!

  • According to your Lord and master Steve Jobs, both the iPhone 3G and 3GS have the same reception problem, so who's lying when you say you had no problems with your 3GS? You or him?

Steve Jobs; you talk absolute bullshit.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for doing these videos. Awareness and recognition of a problem is key before one can fix it. Hopefully sound reviews like these put additional pressure on Apple to cough up a real fix for both current and future customers.

  • It looks like others are having the same issues with their 3G & 3GS as well. Jeffbt has a good video on here. Haaaha, it looks like this was a problem all along and we just started noticing this.

  • @mvakleko I've never had the dropped calls that I have with the iPhone 4

  • Whatever is in that lower left corner should've been in the upper corner,

Looks like Apple installed the antenna upside down or something.

For me, that's another reason to stick with the 3GS.

  • Well done apple another failure on your part

I'm so glad i got my Evo

I'm glad i'm not another tool and got a iphone 4

  • @spungii117 The EVO is a nice phone, but it's a shame that HTC and Android will stop supporting it with OS updates in less then a year... That is what scares me most about those phones... I'll mark your name down and I will follow-up with you when it happens..

  • @mtpflyers haha thanks for reminding me speaking of updates wasn't apple suppose to update the iphone4 because of its antenna oh wait nvm Steve jobs told you guys to spend an extra $30 bucks on a case and to "hold it right" haha have fun making calls on it

  • @spungii117 LOL... people started rumors about it... I don't smash my phone in my

Left hand when I talk on it so I'm ok.. How did that 3G issues with the almighty Nexus One work out? Oh that's right Google isn't going to spend any more time in the issue.. Look we can go back and

Forth but the cutting of the HTC Hero as Samsung

moment after 8 and 9 months is all I have say... At least Apple offers some form of updated OS on the 2 year old 3G..

  • @mtpflyers for the record, I can just bridge the gap with my finger and it happens. Putting it in my hand, however, at least resembles a common grip for a phone, particularly when using speaker phone and/or the touch screen.

  • i thought apple prided itself on making simple and functional products. How do they make a cell phone that just plain doesnt get signal and still expect to maintain their image

  • I hold my phone in my left hand normally and the bars go down without the case.

  • how hard is everyone holding the phone ? do u really have to hold it tight or really really tight

  • @undeadnow i dont think its pressure sensitive. I hold my phone the same way

  • Ok this is freaking me out. I hold my 3GS like that in 4.0 and I notice the bars going down. WTF??? Any other people on here have the same issue? Could be a 4.0 issue or we could of had this all along but just noticed it now.

  • BTW, a lot of other people say they don't have problems with reception. Probably a bad batch of iphones?

  • Well Done apple, you failed, people shouldnt be going out buying all this stuff, 3GS

prices are probley going to go up at this rate

  • not too big of a deal?? COME ON MAN. We pay so much for this phone and get dropped calls?? SERIOUSLY?? Apple should have tested this shit. FUCK SAKE

  • so microcell cannot save you from that crap

  • The microcell sounds like a cop out from AT&T with their suck ass service. Why doesn't Apple wise up and get rid of that ball and chain?

  • what is the point of the MicroCell? Why wouldn't you use WiFi? Plus it is using your limited data plan.

  • @appletree0124 the microcell doesn't use your dataplan, nor does the iPhone do standard voice calls over wifi.

  • @wwwinsanelygreatmac oh, that was a stupid question. But can you use the MicroCell to go on the Internet through your dataplan?

  • @appletree0124 No. If you have WiFi off it goes through your Internet via the MicroCell.

  • @appletree0124 hahahahah you have limited data plan lol. EVO OWNS

  • Sounds like a cancer cell to me :P

  • So instead of getting an AT&T microcell, did you try spending $30 on a bumper, or an iPhone 4 case? It would be a much cheaper solution.

  • The reason this happens is because you cant touch the 2 black lines on the phone. Is not a problem with the ATT Signal

  • @AppleAppStore101 its a problem with the phone and apple needs to fix that

  • wow!!

  • man mike that sucks I can't get this issue to replicate on my microcell either. I wonder if it was an issue with a certain batch of iphones. Thanks for the update very strange indeed.

  • @mocciat I really think it is an issue with a certain batch. I was at the Apple store just yesterday to check out the iPhone 4s. I held each one of the display models exactly like this. And very few of them dropped bars. Most of them stayed at a solid five bars. Apple should definitely be replacing the phones that are experiencing this issue.

  • @krispiekid my phones also work fine in Apple stores. They're in malls with strong cell signal. Get a mile away from a tower, however, and the situation may change.

  • get a bumper for the iphone 4 if you didnt already know! it helps ALOT!

  • @tank4shizzle

Dude, I dont wanna have some shit case around my phone, I just wanna use it naked!

  • i don't understand why there are reports saying this is a software or firmware issues. we all can see clearly this is a design fault.

  • @jiajiahairui well they dont want u to know that they fuked up

  • @zampakto93 well no i think its the ios4's fault because when i updated my iphone 3gs to see this signal problem happened it does on my 3gs

  • @JHANN0 not on my 3gs i have os 4.0 it works fine

  • Um to be honest with everyone I dont even make that many calls I text and email so this is not a big issues for me and I think most people are really over this already.

  • Dang whats wrong with Apple. They make such a great product that doesn't function properly because of the way you hold it? THATS EPIC FAIL!!!

  • Seriously another video to get more views about the same issue?

Just put a case on it if you are going to grip it like a baseball, and it will be fine. Besides are you trying to get carpal tunnel with holding it like that ?

will that be your next video ? that apple now causes carpal tunnel to you ?

  • if you use a case it will help

  • and what now? to carry a fucking micro cell with you at all times?

  • its cuz hes not using a case, its the skin contact

  • damn im glad i didnt run out and buy this phone its not the biggest deal but come on for that much money your phone should not drop calls how ever you hold it

  • Thats awesome, I never knew this. So its iPhones fault and not att.

  • @killarshark33 another kool-aid drinker

  • @killarshark33 Ahaha thats's a fake account,

    -Kevin

  • @killarshark33 God you are an idiot, that twitter account is FAKE. It says it in the bio. :|

  • @killarshark33 lol, twitter. com/ceostevejobs is a parody account. It says so in the description. #FAIL

  • @killarshark33 that's a fake account, dude.

  • @wwwinsanelygreatmac that what i told him how the hell would steve jibs have time to be on twitter

  • @killarshark33 it is not him it even says in the bio for it that it is not him so now who is the dumb ass

  • @killarshark33 its a troll account

  • I heard it dose it on ios 4 but I am not sure.

  • @Jimmyfrominwood it does it to every iphone 4 the software has nothing to do with it

  • @edgesuxass Why do you think apple made the bumper lol

  • @techohelp3 i know because there was a HARDWARE issue

  • @killarshark33 That doesn't make sense. How could this be a software issue?!? Just wait, iOS 4.0.1 will be released everyone will install it, and then another wave of videos will come out showing how the iPhone 4 still drops calls when held "incorrectly".

  • @killarshark33 idiot it is hardware not software
