I miss this show after the wind down and series finale after season 8. The show did an amazing job with things considering the tech at the time. Just as watching the old VHS tapes I have of Starwars prespecial edition make me go "WHY DID HE NEED TO FIX THIS!? IT LOOKS AMAZING!" That's how I feel about early effects.

This intro is an example of quality that TV shows back in the days possess. What I noticed, shows nowadays always show women in provocative dressing because they have nothing in the show except sex, because sex sells. I know this was used for "Children of the Gods," but I also have eps in my collection from Seasons 4 and 5 that use this intro as well (though the font is different). However, my season 1 eps use the Season 2 credits...since I never saw this show in its original Showtime and Sci-Fi runs, were the credits changed for the DVDs?

This sequence really sets up the pilot episode well, but I also saw the director's cut (which removes this), which felt even more like a movie despite the changes.

Wonder if there are really stargates. Theres been traces of ancient cities on earth and star maps on the pyramids of giza and acorss the world all pyramids are the same angle and point in the same direction as the same stars. I am glad they got rid of this intro, when they started airing reruns in Syndication. Also, when the show moved to SCI-FI, they replaced this sequence with shots of the STARGATE. Now, I can say that both versions; the one from syndication and on SCI-FI were a whole lot better than the one seen here.

I wouldn't for a second say stargate was a repetition of earlier sci-fi series. The whole story is based on the idea that mankind was affected by Aliens, enslaved and forced to build the pyramids. The Idea is, that the pyramids were built by aliens, and from there it sets off. It was no less than brilliant to start shooting Stargate, for it has triggered many questions allover the planet, especially the mythical Egypt.

The opening montage from the firt season of SG-1 just goes to show you what a bastardiza- tion of the original film this show is.

Instead of making their own footage, they lift pre-existing footage directly from the opening of the movie, and edit it to make it shorter.

Instead of David Arnold's amazing soundtrack we get this flat kazoo music from Joel Goldsmith.

I used to love SG-1. Not anymore.

It has such a large fan base because it copies nearly every sci-fi movie/series that came before it, especially Star Trek. It is unoriginal, and goes where "everyone has gone before," and almost everybody likes repetition.

It isn't a valid continuation because of the many inconsistences and decrepancies between it and the movie.

And I CAN come out with something better than Star Trek SG-1.

When I say they copy other sci-fi, I mean they copy the style, the FEEL, or even plot points, of other shows/movies, not necessarily exact characters or storylines.

As for originality, did you ever see that episode where Daniel "Descended?" Latter half of that episode stolen from the Death Star battle scene in A New Hope.

The reason SG1 is so successful is because it doesn't take itself seriously, you shouldn't either.

The Death Star thing was a "humourous homage" as wiki puts it, and is an example of where you shouldn't take it seriously.

I don't mind a series poking fun at itself once in a while, but when all it does is poke fun, I can no longer enjoy it.

The movie used humour when it was needed. It never overdid it. This show almost never tries to handle any situation seriously.

And I don't take this show seriously. Not anymore. I disregard it completely. In my mind its only loosely based on the movie, and is not THE true Stargate continuity.
