The Challenger 2 has a newer stabalized gun, which makes its gun firing more accurate, the Leopard 2A6 also has this gun. The M1A2 Abrams does not however. and the Abrams could problaby hold its own against a Leo, but not a Chally. The Russians also use this new stabalized gun on their T-90, so its more than a fair match for the Abrams. The Russians also have a tank called the T-95, which mounts a 135mm cannon usually and newer armor, the Abrams could easily be beaten by the T-95.

It's true the Challenger 2's rifled gun is more accurate, but u have to ask yourself this question, why do most tanks today use smoothbore cannons instead of rifled guns, that's because rifled guns jam more and are less reliable. The M1a2 abram's 120mm gun is only half the truth on firepower, look at the rounds it uses. 120mm smoothbore gun+ m829a3 APSFD can penetrate up to 790 mm of RHA at 2000 meters, very high for a tank.

quite inaccurate. do research instead of using discovery channel. They never say a full story in one show. the m1s currently all have 120mm guns, which doesnt matter if the ammo is no good. T-72s, T-80s and T-90s have 125mm but there ammo sucks. there more but research must be done and you must also include combat experience which the leo2 has none of.

first off abrams is not too loud thats the whole point of the gas turbine engine the iraqis gave it the nickname whispering death so i doubt it would be loud compared to a diesel engine and although a gas guzzler in a time of war not only does it have interchangeable parts but also can run on any type of gasoline. you could piss in it and it would probably still run

In my personal opinion, Russian MBTs T-80/T-90 are better overall than M1 Abrams.

- T-90 uses reactive armor (ERA), that can hold latest western sabot anti-tank rounds

- T-90 uses effective counter-measures against ATGM and RPG rounds. Active protection systems "Shtora" and "Arena" for jamming/escaping and intercepting incoming anti-tank rockets.

- T-90 can fire with long range ATGM (with good penetration capabilities) at 5 km

- T-90 uses very fast and reliable autoloader

yea, training is definetly important, but if I'm right the T-90 is just an upgraded T-70 and its slower and louder than the abrams. I dont think it has the depleted uranium front either that makes Abrams unique...... Also the Side Skirts on the T-90 "flap" whenever it makes a jump off a ramp..... Anyway I will agree that Russian tanks probably were better than ours during the 40s-early 80s. The M-45 (I think) was used till like the 80s.... :/ refitted as M-60

fact is that as usual since forever the difference between american armed forces and other military forces is usually its training. studies have shown that the russian tanks are superior to the abrams but without the tank crew training that means nothing,and you can go back as far as the korean war mig-15 vs sabre where the mig-15 was arguably the better fighter but the sabre enjoyed a much higher kill ratio becau8se its piolets were better trained

so far, I think the most promising of the Modern Tanks that havent been battle tested is probably Leo2, ACTUALLY it has been in Battle, but just peace keeping missions shooting at unarmored targets.... so nothing really heavy. It supposedly has more armor around the sensors than other tanks, and moves 342 Miles on a full fuel load at 45mph... so its statistics are looking good.

well, what I was thinking as a "best tank" is a tank thats been in action (as far as I know, T-90, T-99, Leo2, and Leclerc dont fit here) and has only been destroyed a few times (Challenger 2 and Abrams) and has done a lot of destroying (Abrams). Overall I think the Abrams has the best forward facing armor of any tank, the Challenger seems to have better all-round armor. Seeing the other tanks havent seen real combat, I place Abrams up first and Challenger 2 in 2nd.

no tank in my knowledge could do such a thing.

maybe a FUEL CELL version of the abrams would sell like pancakes.

not sure how much its a guzzler, depends on the size of its fuel tank, I got a book on tanks and the mileage on a full tank of fuel for an Abrams is 288 miles vs the Challenger 2's 310 miles; but the Abrams moves at an impressive 42 mph (Challenger 2 moves at almost 35mph)
