Just mind blowing. This shows why RD Burman used to put VENTURES as his all time favorite. My father used to play a lot of Ventures music. Thank you very much baba for introducing me to such a wonderful band and their music.
The Ventures smoked. They could play as well as any fucking vocal rock band of their time, better than a number of them, and they kicked ass. The albums "Ventures In Space" (1963) "The Fabulous Ventures" (1964) and "Walk, Don't Run - Volume Two" (1964) are three in particular that feature some nasty playing, ensemble and soloing both, and Leon Russell on keyboards on a few tracks.
@TIME88551 yeah but it is noticable at 2:00 in the crescendo. it was only a bit more than a decade before then when entire bands were still recording into one mic in one take. if it weren't for les paul, bands probably would have done for alot longer.
The Ventures are so insanely good. I can thank my [old school longboarder] father for exposing me to their music. When I was a kid, The Ventures played a gig at a local pub - I rode up to the gig on my skateboard, but couldn't get in the door as I was to young to enter the pub! Instead, I climbed up the outside of the building and sat with an ear to an open window for the duration of the evening. I think I had a better seat than anyone in the house!
@ wildbill - the Japanese crowd weren't allowed to stand and could only clap between songs.
The Ventures are absolutely on fire! I don't think they get near enough respect as players. I really see some of their stuff in the same league as Don Rich and the stuff Buck Owens and the Buckaroos were doing. The majority of the other 'surf bands' weren't nearly as technically capable.
@wildbilltexas maybe they weren't there for enjoyment. Maybe they were there on business. You know, to study and duplicate the sound and instruments and it's possible they were taking note. Yamaha does make nice instruments.
Really, cool. Thanks for the info. BTW the Ventures did put on an incredible show in the above video. Energy is key. I like watching Billy Preston exploding on stage, it's addicting and you can't control your fingers or toes- cause it's real rock n roll.
Do they make a DvD of this concert, where can I find this video for sale? I had looked up their discography and it said they had video from 1966 or something but I can't find it anywhere online.
OMG I was a child back then, but the music was seared into my memories forever... Even today the music instantly brings back the energy, the innocence, the childhood memories, the clean and simple living from the 60s. Best decade in my mind. Big thanks to nokie0064!!
Look how the people stood and clapped for The Ventures.. the WORLD'S BEST rock 'n roll instrumental band! Thanks for all the good music through the years boys!
Love the videos, and very happy you posted them like this. Excellent quality and really shows off why they deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. I could have sworn, however, that this concert was from '65. Doesn't matter. Thanks again!
Absolutely fantastic! "Diamond Head" has a lot of meaning to me because I live on O'ahu. Did you know that "Diamond Head" is an "extinct" volcanoe??? There is a community living inside the caldera, today. =Stefan=

That may be true, the Ventures kicked off a huge guitar band boom there.
Yamaha in the mid 60's did make a guitar (now called the SVG-300) that was inspired by the Mosrites the Ventures played.
