Couple questions... How well did the IFS handle the engine weight and other than cowl hood and body lift what had to happen to get the engine tucked in there?
was there enough room in the engine bay, you probably had to do some rearranging but i was wondering how much because i dont know weather i should put a 6v53t in a 78 ford f350 or an 80's model chevy?

When i move out to the country side you can bet i will be building a truck like this. I have seen Detroit Diesel engines in Truck's before but with a automatic? never. Is it a manual trans with some automatic actuators sitting on top of the transmission plate? how does it work. Well great job buddy!

It's just a shame that as time goes on, HP has jumped from 200, to 300, to 400+ and more and the cubic inches are getting enormous in country...while people are crying about the price of gas. However, they'd park their full size SUVs and Heavy Duty trucks than go to an alternate way of thinking. Then, here we are in America, home of Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel, Cummins, etc and we CAN'T get diesels in all range of our trucks here.

what is the clicking noise associated with these engines? The only time that I have ever heard anything like it would be when the cam bearings were going out on a gas motor.
@PITBULL35383 What computer do you have. I have a TCI unit. I was runnig a TPS from a 92 5.7L TBI untill I blew the tranny case apart. Never had an Issue with the sensor.

my dad use to have an old white constructor flatbed tandem, with a 6-71t, and 2- quad boxes, that thing was slower then heck, but you could load 80,000lbs on it and haul it screamin all day. i remeber he letting me drive it around the yard. Detroits run backwards, i found this out when somehow i stalled it cuz i didnt push in the clutch, I slammed on the air brakes, it stalled and it bucked, somehow i got it to run backwards. Smoke started poorin out the filter, an went backwards in first.
A TWO-wheel-drive? Surprising. With all the work that went into doing it so well, I'd think a 4x4 would have been the final touch to make it right. Just my own opinion, of course.
@SuperDutyCummins well for a design that has hardly changed since 1938 between 5 series of engine's, sold more than 1.2 million, had a 50 year run, used in every application imaginable, and pretty much indestructable. i would venture to say that DD did a pretty damn good job

@PITBULL35383 the Allison 545 was a non computerized 3-spd(no overdrive) trans. I think there are others' out there, but i can't remember them all. Knew a guy with a tow truck from the 80s that had a 427 and Allison 2000 behind it.
@PITBULL35383 no way is it a 700R4. The 700R4 was garbage. I had one in my 6.2 blazer, which had much less torque than this Detroit Diesel 2 stroke in this guys truck, and it still started slipping and fell apart. I ditched it for a SM465 instead. It's probably an Allison of some kind.

somebody help me out: what is the advantage of a 2stroke diesel? i thought they were for apps were power to weight matters (ie stuffing it into a pretty small vehicle)? I would think 2strokes get worse mileage and less torque than a 4stroke.

This truck has an all aluminum Detroit Diesel 6V53. The owner has upgraded the fuel system, installed a turbo and other modifications, making it a truly unique truck. The automatic transmission shifts great, and man, that engine is cool.

@creedmty A 6v92 (or a 6v71) would be TOO nose heavy with almost 800+lbs more weight, and although the
71 and 92 series can live at rpms over 3000, the power to weight ratio is best with the 6v53 series.

@TheLuke2reeve Actually I don't mind the thoughts of the auto... keeps the foot to the floor and goes like hell. I am putting a 6V53 in a F-450 and I am thinking of going with a 6 and 4 combo.

@polish1stdivision The owner got the transmission from a friend that did a lot of tractor pulls. The transmission is built up for heavy use

somebody help me out: what is the advantage of a 2stroke diesel? i thought they were for apps were power to weight matters (ie stuffing it into a pretty small vehicle)? I would think 2strokes get worse mileage and less torque than a 4stroke.

I love that sound at 4:35 to 4:37! What is it called when the engine makes that sound at 4:35 to 4:37? You should put auto meters on your truck. This engine would be so awesome in a Mercadies ISL convertable. Especially when it would make the sound at 4:35.

This truck has an all aluminum Detroit Diesel 6V53. The owner has upgraded the fuel system, installed a turbo and other modifications, making it a truly unique truck. The automatic transmission shifts great, and man, that engine is cool.
