Is there any such thing as "Christian Hip Hop?" Hip Hop is not simply a genre of music it is a culture. Under this cultural umbrella is the genre of hip hop music, a lifestyle, clothing, values, etc. Just because you slap Holy, Christian, or Hallelujah on things of the world doesnt make it be of God. There is definitely "Christian Rap," but I am not so sure there is any such thing as "Christian Hip Hop" But I am interested in hearing thoughts of others.

If you are a person that listens to Jay Z, 50 cent, Lil Wayne, or Drake, they most likely wont listen to Yolanda Adams, Donnie Mcclurkin, Cece Winans, or other gospel artists. We have to show them that being a Christian doesnt mean being stuffy. WE ARE ALL PRAISING GOD and that's what matters. We are warring for souls and this is going to peak their interest from a different angle.

The lyrics are what changes EVERYTHING. Just like us. We have Christ, but we live in the world. Take away Christ, and we look no different. i personally think there are different meanings for swag. many words have different meanings, not just in slang. sometimes we think that the first meaning listed in the dictionary is always used, but sometimes that's not the case. for example there are at least 9 different meanings to the word love in the Webster dictionary. Boasting in money and possessions leads people to just that, money and toys. That doesn't mean that you can't have them, it just means that the focus of the gospel should never be on gifts and what you get from God. This is what Paul's letter to the Philippians was about.

Is there any such thing as "Christian Hip Hop?" Hip Hop is not simply a genre of music it is a culture. Under this cultural umbrella is the genre of hip hop music, a lifestyle, clothing, values, etc. Just because you slap Holy, Christian, or Hallelujah on things of the world doesnt make it be of God. There is definitely "Christian Rap," but I am not so sure there is any such thing as "Christian Hip Hop" But I am interested in hearing thoughts of others.

@black1992orly We have to continuously find ways to make the Gospel attractive and this is one of the ways. If you are a person that listens to Jay Z, 50 cent, Lil Wayne, or Drake, they most likely wont listen to Yolanda Adams, Donnie Mcclurkin, Cece Winans, or other gospel artists. We have to show them that being a Christian doesnt mean being stuffy. WE ARE ALL PRAISING GOD and that's what matters. We are warring for souls and this is going to peak their interest from a different angle.

I appreciate the effort, however this has nothing to do with how JESUS CHRIST taught us to lose our life that we might gain it. Way too much weight placed on what you have materially. Please read Hebrews chapter 11, the whole chapter and you should get a little better perspective on the real Gospel message.

@DreVladi21 I understand there's a lot of confusion behind the message of the video. If the lyrics are removed, it does look like just another worldly video. But that's just it! The lyrics are what changes EVERYTHING. Just like us. We have Christ, but we live in the world. Take away Christ, and we look no different. He's rapping about how the blessings follow him, not the other way around. He is also giving the message of Christ out to people through his music. I hope this helps.

I understand the concern. There has been so much "Sugar Daddy" gospel that I think the people of God question the intent when money seems to be the message. But let's look at it! This is in direct contrast to the Pimp My Ride, MTV Cribs, etc . I feel what they are trying to convey to the youth, who are pulled in by all the things, is that you can have it all, but look I got it because of Jesus. It is a method to draw a part of society that would not hear about GOD otherwise.

God told Abraham, I will bless you to bless all humanity, I will make you above and not beneath. Great things. Even though that was the old covenant, Jesus did not say that the benefits of following the law would fade away. He's talking about this stuff because telling people that God is right is not working and it's inaccurate. God's way is better proof is the video.

@black1992orly I agree. It has got a lil bit out of hand. But don't let that hinder your walk. Most of cantons songs are still for the most part really good. With more fame, comes more distractions, and ungodly influences FOR SOME. That's why it's important to stay close to God, so you don't have a hard fall and get humbled.

@black1992orly the thing is that we want to reach the "thugs" of the world too and that means that we need to appeal to them. if we dont then they will appeal to the rest of the world with thier ideas. if we dont like their ideas then we need to do something to change it. i understand where you all are coming from. its just that you need to look deeper into the meaning of the song instead of judging the lyrics right off. i personally think there are different meanings for swag. many words have different meanings, not just in slang. sometimes we think that the first meaning listed in the dictionary is always used, but sometimes that's not the case. for example there are at least 9 different meanings to the word love in the Webster dictionary. Jesus is relevant. He spoke in the same of language of the people He was ministering to. He spend time learning the culture and was able to speak againist what was wrong

I agree to an extent. It's so important to remember that worldly society places such emphasis on possesions. Yet we as christians are quick to say what GOD has done and what we have been blessed with but are ashamed to say that it's by his grace that we can afford the same things that the world takes such comfort in. We have to be bold enough to stand up and let the world know Life through Christ can afford you the same riches but with so much more peace.

i didnt know the world had words that belong to them. I understand vulgar words do. But when it comes to words describing something good and positive, to my understanding we should use as many as possible when describing our God. If Kanye West has swag, how much more swag does our Christ have?

also, about not using the word 'swag'...what about the billions of other words out there, it's not like Christians invented the alphabet. swag is just a word...nothin' more nothin' less. a verb in some cases and an adjective in others. overall this is a great positive song. i just hope people are as diligent to criticize the thousands of other songs that are obviously negative. those are the artist and people that really need our guidance. why tear down the Kingdom? peace

I like it...Spiritual Encounter might be playing this song next year cause its a good song... My pastor even says he has swagg and you can have swagg (christ-like-swag). At least he has a positive message for all of us young kids instead of talking about irrelevent stuff..

I like this video. its a good song and not only that it has a positive message. most videos got brag about cars clothes money and hoes, and girls poppin in the background, but this video implicated a positve message as if swag was to mean he got his ish together. Keep it up.

I'm not saying that he is a bad guy. It's just dangerous for us as Christians to always be mindful of the line set before us. We should boast in things that will lead people to the cross. Boasting in money and possessions leads people to just that, money and toys. That doesn't mean that you can't have them, it just means that the focus of the gospel should never be on gifts and what you get from God. This is what Paul's letter to the Philippians was about.

I've listened to the debate over this video on many sites now. The problem most believers have with this video is what's currently being debated in the church: name it-claim it/prosperity gospel. Your John Pipers versus Creflo Dollars. My problem with this video is that his idea in boasting in God is a little distorted. When you boast so much in your blessings, you cause others to look at the gifts of God and not THE GIFT of God. This leads to idolatry. We should boast in his mercy and love

But it does say we do not fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual prinicipalities in high places. No offense to u or this video I was just adressing your comment.

as far as some of the other comments i've read about 'prosperity', not using the word swag, or this song is too much about him...personally i think too much is being read into this song.
