OK, so this is like the 10th time in a row I'm listening to this......and I can't stop grinning and saying wow, wow, wow! I never hear of Liv before and I'm so glad to have stumbled onto this posting......thank you Sally!
I recently ran into a former employee who used to be in a bad place in life which caused her problems. She has since found her "good place" and is damn proud of what she's doing! I'm proud of her too and can't wait to share this with her.
I have been a fan of Livingston Taylor since I first saw him warm up for Dave Mason at St. Bonaventure University in upstate western NY way back in the 70's.
Just an easy going music lover who loves to share his love for acoustic storytellin'.
I am the most rabid, devoted James Taylor fan you'll ever meet, both as a member of the listening public and as a pro musician of 20 years. I think he's in the top 5 American composers/singers/guitarists/recording artists — ever. But Livingston Taylor's song, "LIfe is Good," is, in fact, as good as anything James has ever done. Especially the first stanza — "...asks his old dad..". The guitar work is fantastic, the chord pattern, ditto. Not many songs stir me to tears, but this one does.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Whoa. Ive never listened to Livingston before, but now I hear that common "gene" in he & James in their voices. And he's a pretty smooth guitar player too , I see as well as a captivating performer too. Kudos to him for having his own success as well!
Sit down, take a breath, close your eyes and remember that there is always sunshine which has been with you..... or it soon will be. Life is one big game, its how you play it that matters......... This track has given me this!!! a true person of integrity
This has been so far, the very worst year of my life. The world has shook, the wind has blown, and I have to admit, life is good! This song has a lot of meaning if you truly listen to it. Give it all to others and it all comes back to you!
I could listen to Livingston for hours and hours.....and have!
For those of you who have never seen him in concert......find one of his up and coming
concerts and get a ticket! What a treat......Your ears and heart will thank you. And his "stories" will get you laughing out loud in ways you thought weren't possible, no matter what your age or disposition before the concert.
What a wonderful talent in his own right! I think what attracts me to all of the Taylor's music is the honesty that shines through each song. Liv, James and Ben are all wonderful musicians. All three should tour together at least once. That would be great!
He is such a wondeful singer and performer and a great teacher. I was so fortunate to be able to take one of his classes last summer. Thanks for sharing his music.

my friend and i were bussing at a restaurant when i jokingly said to liv that he shouldn't go through a door [the door is a one way door and i have been hit in the face by it] he basically discriminated against us saying that hes been coming to this restaurant for 30 years and he can do whatever he wants he also said that children like us have no right telling him what to do, he then made fun of our attire and gave us dirty looks. this man is a dick in person although he may seem nice on stage
then show him respect and tell go through the door first so he won't get smacked by it if someone else opens it... if you are truly a public servant, then you would understand that!
well what i did was tell him that for future reference to refrain from going from the door while he was ABOUT to open it [this was when i first noticed him doing it].and there is also a large sign that says 'do not enter' on the door which he did not seem to notice. and please, i did not tell him this to be purposely aggravate him i told him this for his benefit.
I sat next to Liv at a dinner at Harvard about a year ago, and he is truly a marvelous human being and performer. He said something to me, which has stuck with me ever since: Tenacity trumps talent always. How wise!
thats why his teaching is genius.....he repeats the same points over and over and OVER....and twenty years from now we will all remember what he taught. He's great as a teacher and a performer
I had the great good fortune to see him about 2 years ago in Monroe, Michigan (about 30 miles south of Detroit, and 20 miles north of Toledo, where I live). It was wonderful. After the show, he signed autographs and CD's for every last person who was waiting in line without acting as if it was an imposition. What a gifted and gracious man. I wish him all the best and look forward to hearing his future work. All the best to everyone who has posted notes here.
Livingston is one of those rare individuals who is able to clearly articulate the thoughts and feelings many of us have but are unable to describe so poetically.
This is a great gift, and for him to accomplish this with such humility and candor is remarkable.
I did too! I did a 5 week summer program there and he gave a great master class. It was more of a concert/lecture and I didn't get to really "work with him" but I still remember a lot of his really insightful songwriting tips. The man's a joy to watch and learn from.
I will be always appreciative of Apple Records and the Beatles for discovering brother James and making us aware of this wonderful musical family. I bought Apple Records first product and I'd love to add some more Liv Taylor music to the library. Some people don't like "ice cream chords" or mellow singing and lyrics, but I do.
I was just listening to "UNSOLICITED MATERIAL" Livingston Live in Concert and I heard this wonderful song again. It inspired me to see the bright side of life when things are not going right. I can't wait to see LT in concert at Phoenixville, PA.
@crawfop Hey, he was teacher at Berklee and he played this song on my guitar, Im pretty sure its standard tuning. I dont remember him changing the tuning at all....first chord is (from low E to high E) 0-0 4-2-0-4 let me know if that works for you
do you feel, I hate when people sing about how beautiful life is and how perfect our families are. I think the reason this type of music goes down the toilet is because no one relates to the brainwash happy lyrics.
Sorry I don't fit your "happy go lucky American" standards for someone to hang out with but what I said is what I said and we all have our own opinions so don't reply me with any more gay messages trying to change my mind.
Hmmm - I don't think vonhorn29 was saying that life is an American treasure - he said "Liv," which I'm thinking means Livingston. And yep, if you've ever heard this fellow live, boy, he's an EXTRAORDINARY performer!
life is what you make of it. Liv makes the best of it, obviously you don't. Good for you! Why don't you write a song called life sucks? Maybe more people could relate with your perspective. I smell a single.......
