Animals have no self consciousness. They cannot comprehend themselves as being separate from their environment. The animals you see are the culmination of millions and millions of years of evolution. Which means they are responding to stimuli in order to survive extremely efficiently. They cannot understand what a hunting is or that they are being watched/shot at. Even if they see the gun. Seems like they are at a slight disadvantage.
@DragonzRule999 Animals aren't capable of that. They don't have the ability to comprehend. They have instincts. If something poses a threat to us, we think over the situation at hand, and try to resolve it as easy as possible. Animals have two possible responses; fight or flight. That's it. There's not in between. Hunting is necessary to protect the environment, and is essential if we want our future generations to enjoy it like we do.
That's retarded I would of shot the bear to at told thoes stupid animal right people to go to a damn petting zoo if they want to look at bears. Not were people are hunting
so your saying that if you go and buy 'bear' stuff you can take the life of an animal it may of had a family. stupid rural americans! so fucking blood thristy! Barbarians, you dont need to fucking kill things, leave the animals allone!
Personally if they made an illegal shot shame on them blah blah. But for the pussies. i mean cmon dont take ur "children" to look at a fucking wild bear while ur driving first of all, could cause a accident by gawking dumb blondes. 2nd of all if they came in the path of the wounded bear bcuz of this. yet again there own fault for bieng on the side of a road instead of driving. Hunter was doing his thing I would have done the same shit, besides if it was an illegal shot.
Note how he uses the word "harvesting" to disguise what's generally just ego-trip killing. Bears are rarely killed for survival sustenance by the high tech gear crowd.
Take this guy back to 1870 and he'd be "harvesting" bison to near extinction with the same callous attitude. The only thing that's really changed is game laws that were enacted when it was clear that many hunters had no concern for species' long-term viability.
@Antithropocentric No he wouldn't; in 1870, they were slaughtering bison. This was a highly regulated hunt, as all hunting is nowadays. Get it right before spewing out false claims please.
i love to hunt if i didnt hunt people would bitch and complain about the animal population like they still do but then they bitch and complain about huntin just makes no sense to me. hunt hard and eat well!!!!
@BIGhunt335, there was a time when hunting was natural and sustainable, without the need for game regulations. The very existence of regulations shows that hunting has become overly disruptive, with modern weapons and a runaway human population. Livestock have largely replaced the need for hunting and ruined millions of acres of wildlife habitat.
Too many modern hunters are just in it to test ballistics and grin over corpses. YouTube videos are shedding light on that low-brow world.
It's funny how people from the city are so against hunting and don't realize in order for those cities in which they live in to be built more wildlife and habitat has been destroyed than any hunter ever will.
Hell yeah, I live here in Alaska and I would have done the same damn thing. I actually have shot a moose in front of a crowd but they were all hunters and we could hear the applause from the road after the kill!
Do the vegetarians posting here really think they're food doesn't come at a cost to animal life? think again. I am a not-till, permaculture farmer, but I do not delude myself that animals do not die do to my actions. nothing in life is free, and if you eat soy then there is a ton of blood on your hands.
Hey man, you make a good point. I hunt bears every year in Idaho. Black bears. If I ever get the chance, and have the money, I would love to hunt a brown bear. Only problem I see is doing it in front of some PETA minded people. It just gives them more ammo against hunters. Would love for them to understand us, but we all know that won't happen. Side note- my bait was destroyed last week by a bruin! Didn't come in last night but I'll go back up tomorrow, need to fill the freezer! Bear meat good!
i would have shot it, but i would have waited for the people to leave first because i would expect the mindless masses of morons not to understand overpopulation, it's not like they shot an endangered species, im against poaching, what they did was completely law abiding
I would like to know what them people looking at the bear would have said if the bear went after them and the hunters didn't shoot it. Then they would have loved the hunters to shoot.
Great video I would shoot It to just because some granola bar eating nature trail walking city slicker wants to get mad because you shoot something you paid and took the time to hunt that is dumb stay in town if you dont want to see people hunt !

Animals have less space now than they ever do. HUNTERS DIDN'T DO THAT; HUMANITY AS A WHOLE DID THAT! With less space means less plants can grow, which means that animals eat up their food supply before it can grow back, have nothing to eat, starve, and die! Think before you stupid little fingers go flying across that keyboard...

I've always known it was a felony to shoot too close to or over a highway, they just need a better firearms education. Do people have to complete a hunter education course before they can get a hunting license in Alaska? If they don't have to, then they should be required to. If they do have to, then federal laws concerning hunting and firearms should be part of the curriculum.
Maybe this is just my area or something, but I thought there was some law against stopping on highways for non-emergancy stuff. Or is that just interstates?

God gave us power over the animals, thus if people wanna hunt, i say go fo it!
Preciate it! It just really got to me when all these groups came out apologizing for hunters. Like what we do needs to be cloaked in a shield of secrecy. Hunting is hunting. There's a ton of good that comes from it but instead people are shown the bad. They are shown murder. As long as this message continues it will surely chip away at the honest image of what a hunter is or was. Thanks for commenting!
@IntoOutdoorsdotcom I have a few honest questions. 1. What good comes out of hunting that can't come from an activity that doesn't involve killing? 2. What good comes out of (sport) hunting in general? 3. you say that the public are 'shown the bad... murder;' What was different about this incident that makes it 'murder' compared to a normal (probably more secluded) day of bear hunting? Do hunters realize that animals are not self conscious?
Yeah, the fact that it was called unethical is really crap. The hunters had every right-away, the only thing they should have been tagged for was shooting too close to the highway! It sounded almost like the people had never seen an animal get shot before and were flabbergasted, because seriously, if your going to be watching BEARS, during BEAR HUNTING SEASON, in a BEAR HUNTING ZONE, they i don't know what those people were expecting to see.
How do we know if it was their last day to hunt and thats the only shot they had? If I was them I would have taken the shot also, I have as much to be out their hunting as they do to be out bear watching, if your planing to go into the woods plan on seeing stuff you like and dont like.
dear lord, give the guy a break. im from Newfoundland, so I know how the media can be stupid. Ever heard of the seal hunt? they paid a bunch of drunks (they being PETA and a british newspaper) to go out and torture seal pups with gaffs and knives. The media is biased. Period.
Ya I read where they butchered Miss Newfoundland for seal hunting. She stood by it though. I'll be honest the only thing I've ever seen about seal hunting is people clubbing baby seals. That girl opened up my eyes! I had no idea it was a tradition there. Seriously, there needs to be seal hunting advocates or something. I always thought it was wrong but Miss Newfoundland made me question it. Heard the fur trade aint so hot either up there.
Oh, I agree it was legal. But lets get real, don't shoot the damm bear while people are watching....maybe some common sense.....you are right, but ...........lets keep some ethics.
Its a tuff one. I cant condem them for it. However, were they in such a hurry after spending all that time and cash that they have to shoot the first bear they see just off the highway? I dont have enough facts. If I went to Alaska for hunting, I wouldnt want my hunt over as soon as I got out of the vehicle. Its a toss up. Like you said. The watchers were just stopped, the hunters had time invested. I'll make no comment on right or wrong on this one.
@dnahoghunter Exactly! We don't have any facts!! You should see the articles. They use words like malicious, murdered, carcass, disturbing, etc.... It's really the media who pissed me off. They take one witness then paint the hunters red with criticism. Just seems like as hunters we're always apologizing and justifying what we do. Just tired of always being on the defensive. We need to grow some balls on this kind of stuff.
Sounds like a successful and good hunt for the hunters turned into an ordeal. What should of been a good day for the hunters ended up being a bad day, and that sucks. The guys were just enjoying the great outdoors. The nature watchers should see it as NATURE, like when a lion kills an Impala.
@fracwilt In Maine you can't hunt within 50 feet of a road or shoot towards a road. but how far off does that road have to be? 1 mile,2? Here in Texas it is illegal to purposly shoot towards a fenceline, knowing the round may leave your property. Get that? MAY leave your property. It leaves the law open in 2 directions. Ethics...
lol, here doghunters can hunt while parked on the side of the road/highway. they can even ride down the road with loaded shotguns, even in the national forest.
hmmm...this one really makes me think...hmmm......I think the hunter shoulda shot the bird watcher first, then shot the bear. Then noone whould be bashing the guy for shooting the bear.
when i bought my first rifle my words to my friends about it were "I want the ability to kill a bear. not that i am gonna but the ability is nice" these guys prolly didn't see the people like cxd said but again that is speculation ... but then again they shoulda baited the bear to a different location or set up further away from the free-way... and the federal government needs to say "hey add these rules to ur book or else.." that way no one can say i didn't know...
well probably wasnt the best idea in the world for the hunters to kill the bear right in front of all those people IF they actually knew the people were there watching the bears. The hunters may not have even knew they were there because like you said we do not know all the facts so for the most account all you can do is assume. I was always taught that assumption is the mother of all screw ups. The media will make out the hunters to be ignorant anyway so really it makes no diffrence... later...
Hey guys remember we don't really know what happened here. My point is that no one has questioned this one witnesses accuracy but they report emotional gossip like this. I blame the hunters and the media for taking a stab at the perception of hunting. Either way it makes us look bad. I was just saying that no one ever takes the hunters opinion or considers their situation. The easy thing to do is say "thats unethical" but that would give the media the freedom to continue this kind of reporting.

The easy thing to do is say "thats unethical" but that would give the media the freedom to continue this kind of reporting.

The bear hunters win because they just harvested a BEAR!
How would a sane person argue with them after that? Nature watchers are a hell of a lot less tough than a bear.
