This is in my top three of my favorite Ben improvs... This is so amazing that I can hardly fathom someone beating them in this comp. Great job Ben and Jessica! :)
It will take you about 7 years to get half as good as them, if your a good dancer and a good learner. It looks easy, that's one of the things that makes them so good. Its not! But the fun is taking the ride and learning. Its so fun!
we'll be learning west coast swing in a few weeks; was curious if anyone knew any videos demonstrating how to learn those sliding moonwalk-like grooves the lead is doing?
@knotgifted they're just little things you pick up mostly from other styles of dance. you can incorporate a lot of hip hop and even ballet into west coast swing and spice things up. other than that it's syncopations and tricks you just learn as you go
This was really pretty brilliant. I like how even the dancing was and how playful...How they both worked off each other, no suprise really, Ben and Jessica...pleasure to watch
Jessica has the figure to look good at any dance she does. She is a top-notch West Coast Swing gal. She gives her competition a run for their money. Way to go Jessica! You're awesome! We guys from the Texas Dance arena love your style.

What the hell! Is this really West Coast Swing or the dancers' highly personal version of it? They practically look like they're moonwalking around each other!
They are dancing 'in' the music. This song has a funky beat to dance to and accents to play with. Play 5 different songs, and you will have 5 different looking dances! That is the beauty (and improvisation) of west coast swing.
In West Coast there is a basic six-count pattern. An even-numbered step must fall on a beat. Knowing the moves is one thing, but making moves follow music is another. Also dancers have to watch out for breaks in a tune (there's one at 1:21). There, the couple has to deal with a change of beat, and do so fluidly. Also, certain notes call for variation in basic steps ( 0:15). Tempo of the song calls for change in step speed, and breaks insure variety in routine.

they use a lot of flair, you have to know your partner for some of that.

We're all watching her, but Ben is making it all happen with the lead. Morris is a WCS god.

That's the job of the lead, to frame the lady and make her look smooth.

it was good but all they did was spin 90% of the time. Same move.

That's usually how it goes. Moves take a major back seat to musicality and style.

What does dancing 'in' the music mean?
The dancer steps between beats as opposed to stepping on the beat?
Never understood what 'in' the music means
