  • What did you fly from Charlotte to Raleigh for?

  • F28 at 3:01

  • This was when flying was fun. Before the dark times. Before the bottom feeding regionals.....before the TSA :(

  • I love how the old planes look.

  • It actually hasn't changed a lot since then..

  • Wow, is so fast begine 727 for takeoff.

  • Gee that is so long ago

  • Tough luck :/ The windows were so scratched you could hardly see out of them.

  • charlotte to raleigh cant you drive that in 3 houers . thats like flying from toronto to winsore no point .

  • fantastic!

  • I fly this route to see my family almost every other weekend. Its nice and short. JetBlue only though. :)

  • The windows were scratched by the blast from the engines when the clam shell reverse thrust was engaged on the 737-200. The back blast threw small debris up from the runway striking the windows closest to the rear of the engine nacelles.

  • Thanks for sharing! I saw & filmed a 737-200 in Berne two days ago. This great & classic plane has become pretty rare now.

  • Takeoff with 0° flaps

  • I wish I could catch a punk ass etching aircraft windows. I would hang their balls from their ears.

  • It have a dent in the nose or something?

  • 2:54 USAir Express operated the Shorts 360? Never knew that.

  • HOly shit! the 80s! I wasnt even born! DAMN...YOUTUBE WASNT EV EN BORN!

  • Love seeing all of the old Airline livery

  • This is one AC that I hope was turned into beer cans. What a POS!!

  • Man there ain't much in the world more boring to fly over and live in than central NC. Did a gig at RTP, was happy to get the hell out of there :)

  • Damn how do you tear up a window like that? You're right, these late 80s 27a and 37s for USAir were probably the beaters of beaters from Piedmont.

  • Nice video! I loved seeing the old 727's. As others have said, you must have had a BIG camera taking that video. It wouldn't have been so easy to hide it. That video brought back so many memories though. It was nice to see the Piedmont colors still on some of those planes.

  • By chance, do you remember what your cruising altitude was?

  • windows look terrible.. they should have been replaced

  • how big was that camera that you filmed with in this video was it big

  • i was 6 years old back in 1989, but I remember so much about when the airlines were cool. JT8s on 727/737/DC9 and the technological wonders were the 757/767 and 747-400 with EFIS and FMCs. Man how things have changed. These days the airlines are like buses, crappy customer service and cookie cutter aircraft. The unique days of flying are long gone. It makes me sad to think about really. I may have only been 6, but I miss my youth. L1011s, DC10s, B727s, B732s. Thanks for these videos SD.

  • Too many times to count I flew the Piedmont/USAir 737-200....i recognize that tacky interior of the 1980s lol. Love this ole bird...a hot rod on takeoff.

  • @htshoward definately a hot rod on take off and looks like a bullet when watching the take-off ...this is definately a "classic" aircraft...my last 737-200 flight was from Atlanta to Greensboro on Delta...and glad i got to fly on one...

  • @tonyf734atl I hear ya. I lived in Lynchburg, VA all through the 1980s and I used to fly it out of LYH down to Charlotte and then points beyond many times. I loved the takeoff out of LYH, as the runway was short, about 1 mile. I think my last 737-200 flight was Tampa to Charlotte. I miss those old planes! The new ones are not as thrilling.

  • @tonyf734atl And thanks for posting that Delta 727 last flight! The 727 was my ALL TIME FAVE!!! Gosh I miss the sound of those engines and that use every inch of runway take off as well as those engines being revved up all the way to the runway on approach and landing. Never be another plane like it.

  • Those are some abused windows lol...

  • Fantastic work..I was 20 at the time and at least somebody had the foresight to capture this period before cellphones, video phones etc.

  • Talk about a light load, ha!

  • @ViperFace That's what she said!!!!

  • I remember when Piedmont was the dominate airline in CLT and when I had to take flights out of CLT and Asheville on their old 727's and 737's like these...Nice video

  • @LogicalFantasy Yes...i remember those "Oh! So well..." i am from Brevard...and i used to fly Piedmont flight #58 from Asheville to Greensboro (727-200) alot...as well...

  • Some of them were purchased new by US Air from late 1982. Piedmont and US Air were taking delivery of new 737 -201 & 2B7 Advanced models as late as 1984.

  • i love these vids

  • Very well done, it sure doesn't seem as if it's been so long !

  • Thank you for posting!!! I saw EASTERN when landing in RDU :-)

  • the old usair pant is beast

  • charlotte didnt even have a skyline back then

  • @anthonym267 When did it get one? That must be a pretty modern city.

  • @b747dude Well, its been going through a building boom since the mid 1990s, and the skyline and metro population I am told is twice what is was 20 yrs ago.

  • There is the forward half of a 732 just like that @ the Museum of Flight near Seattle.

  • The good ol' days when 727s ruled the airports...those were the days.

  • ahh the days where you were allowed behind security whether you were flying or not....the good days. things have changed so much since then.

  • @NinerGreen I totally agree. I used to go to IAD on a regular basis and watch planes on the observation deck up until I was a teenager. My parents always came with me to my gate to say goodbye. Now since 9/11 everything has gone to shit. I'm glad I was born in '80 to see how good things used to be.. well atleast for me anyway.

  • possibly my old man as f/o on this flight.

  • That is an awesome sound on take off :)

  • what do you mean 1989?

    so old?

  • On a lot of the older clips, I include the year in the title. It is my hope that the "vintage" or "antique" aspect that immediately comes to mind will trigger more interest.

  • @TheGreatFlyer NO FUCK IT IS OLD

  • Comment removed

  • Charlotte-Raleigh (up and down) then Washington. What an odd route structure but that is the way things used to be for a while. Anyhow, still good quality even w/ scratches on window.

  • Great video thanks for uploading!

  • more like crystalized plastic windows...lol..my first plane ride was on a continental fan tail in 1978..what a thrill that was! from seattle to burbank...

  • wow I remember the scratched up windows in the older planes..

  • Nice

    Love those old vid's!
