The whole city of Burlington is different. It's messed up around here, everyone looks at everyone else a little differently. It's not the same anymore. The guy who did it is a redneck scumbag.

Dad's down in Southern Vermont and noted that the whole state full of embarrassment. He feels semi-responsible as a Vermonter. And what's weird is that there are murders in Vt. like anywhere else. No murder has more AWFUL than any other really. But for some reason this poor gal's demise has caused a severe sense of disorientation and dislocation. It's as if OUR state has lost something held dear—and we barely knew her through her parents and the media.
