@bentenelevenable Because in reality with all the door skipping you don't really need any stars, but you need the rabbit in the basement to pass both the 2nd bowser door, and to make that appear you need 15 stars. the 16th one is just to move the water back just before 2nd bowser's entrance

Wouldn't it be faster to limit the number of coins you get per stage to reduce the time at the end when the coins add up? you could cut some more frames doing that (example when going for the 16th star don't take any coins in the tunnel, i'm sure you can make it to the top without those)

@snowyarticuno When you start recording a TAS, you have the option to start the recording from power on or from "now" (Save state). If you record from power on, it will be from a completely fresh game, no saves exist or anything. And it's easy to know when to start recording.

From a save state, the game can already have a save file which can affect stuff. And it is also possible to have activated a cheat code before, which is impossible if you choose "power on."

@snowyarticuno The only thing that exist in a TAS-movie file is the pure input done to finish the run. So when you want to replay it, you'll have to open the exact same rom as was used for recording the run. Then the TAS-file will just add the input to the game. And when you don't need to do any more inputs, the movie is over but the rom will keep playing the ending.

If you go with power off you won't know exactly when that would be. When is the credits over? With the timer it is clear.

Hes not the best. Its Frame advance (Frame by frame) and save states to make perfect moves. Also he did 16 stars to have a Perfect like 16 star run instead of 0 star run. TA is for Entertainment as seen in many quotes.
