I loove Gogo, and the techniques are intuitive and came of their own accord. So, as someone who plays congas and is part Cuban, I pay tremendous respect to all of the Gogo congueros, and on top of that they have so much soul. My apologies for being biased at one point. I play several instruments ranging from piano, drums, guitar, violin, and of course congas. My style range from gospel, jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock to what ever. But one thing Ive learned is to respect the style what ever it may be. I was introduced to Go Go when I was 13, I'm now 43 and I still respect the style. People that put down Go Go only do that because they don't know the style and never took time to listen and learn it. I don't listen to country but I respect it, so respect Go Go music.
it was blacks who brought complex percussion patterns into latin america. before then latinos were basically playing pan flutes and whistles, some simple stringed intruments and maybe one drum per man without real rhythm, with some asian sounding singing. its all music and good but let's step back and see the bigger picture for a minute
