  • You too can breathe improperly and have ass tone!

  • shut up y'all he is right!! I am a professional trumpet player and my teacher taught me the exact same way!

  • YOU SUCK!!! BOOOO

  • ok, we all know this isnt very good. but come on, give him a break

  • ...what.

  • Once again, if you don't know how it actually works...don't teach people...

  • Also, this guy's a moron.

  • diafram?nose?! ....wow.... it's intresting how there are people who want to try do something that they will never do!!

  • I have been playing the trumpet for almost 20 years. This man is a scar on the face of musical talent. The best way to play your music is to FEEL it. Ignore what this man is saying. How can you take advice from someone who can't beautifully sustain a note for more than 5 seconds? His tone cracks, and I'm absolutely positive that he is, in fact, an amateur, learning himself, trying to impress a girl that has already not called him after a first date.

  • The pin striped shirt I was wearing while watching this video reflected in my computer screen and the stripes in the shirt made it look like the guy in the video was in jail!

  • Dear expertvillage, I am surprised that you are still making these videos. This one especially has angered me. This man has no idea what he is doing. I have had a professional teacher for three years, and never have i heard her say breathe through your nose. Please do me and everyone else that you have suckered into wathcing these videos a favor and STOP MAKING THIS SHIT!

  • @ihitman321 Actually, my Applied Brass Professor in College told me to start using my nose. I actually agree with you that it was not a good bit of advice, but the idea is so that you don't have to reset the embrasure. The thing that we all know is that you can tank air faster using the mouth for breathing, and what about people like me who constantly have allergy issues? The nose Isn't going to work.

  • Expert Village needs to stop making videos and start practicing themselves

A disgrace to the trumpet playing world. Play your own way but don't teach students how to play bad or wrong.

  • Even I know you don't breath through the nose, its to freaking hard when playing any wind instrument.

  • you breathe through your mouth. and to get a good tone your lips shouldn't be able to buzz independently. they should only buzz when something is against them. also, you should sit up tallish but not all the way up unless you normally sit like that. your whole body should be relaxed. when watching video lessons be sure to validate everything with at least three sources. also if your this early in playing you shouldnt even worry about circular breathing

  • @trumpetsandocarinas Actually, yes, you should be able to have your lips buzz independent. This is taught generally in university level music programs. If the independent buzzing is done right for long enough, then your "chops" whill feel as though you were actually playing for the duration that you were buzzing.

  • People, people. Stop it with the snard comments. At least he has the balls to get on YouTube and suck dick.

  • this can't be legit......? does he hear what is coming out the bell? good god, absolutely abismol

  • Oh my god. And your tone is all wavering. It sounds terrible. And empty your spit valve next time too.

And no, breathe through your MOUTH, stupid.

    MOUTH. NOT NOSE..!!

  • breathing doesnt require forcing your shoulder girdle upwards.

respiration is an intrinsic/involuntary reflex that will adjust to the activity you are doing

what people need to realize, even this guy here, is that if you have the proper dimensions of your body open and free you'll be breathing as deep as you need to breathe. forcing breath will only create habitual holding patterns

  • there is plenty of misinformation here.....beware of many statements presented here.

  • expert village sucks!! dont listen to this garbage

  • HE'S BREATHING THROUGH HIS NOSE BECAUSE HE'S CIRCULAR BREATHING.... Idiots

  • @WHSBandGeeks

You puff out your cheeks, force the air out while breathing in through your nose when you circular breathe. If he was circular breathing in this video, he would be puffing his cheeks out. All he's doing is giving bad advice, and misinforming you by telling you to mainly breathe through your nose. When truly, you're supposed to breathe through your mouth to get the most fluant, quickest, and largest amount of air possible. Breathing through your nose doesn't give you that.

  • ... so this guy clearly isn't a trumpet player. did you hear that note? that's not a trumpet player playing. no support. classic "expert" village... Thumbs down.

  • there is uh ... def something to big in my nose. the hair sensors are tellin m g me someth.

  • two brath ways are good if yo do them in the right way

  • No no no no no!

Do NOT breathe through your nose!!

If you REALLY want to help people, remove this video immediately.

  • Not expertvillage, expertfuckup.

  • wrong!

  • This is so bad. He is breathing the completey wrong way. Please, If you are new to the trumpet DO NOT breathe this way!

  • 1. the embouchure should be more centered

    2. dont breath through your nose, that ruins it

    3. jeez of course you can make that note last forever your sound is way too pinched and unclear. get tone and quality.

    4. DUDE REALLY IS THIS A JOKE

  • @Ristash tell him! tone and quality!!!

  • crap teacher,

  • hey i blew in to a trumpet and i could not make it sound right could youu help me with that?

  • @DOUBLEBFACTORY

playing the trumpet is all in the lips. Buzzing is the biggest thing you want to work on. when you first start i wont sound right ill tell you that maybe try playing a song that you know and that way u can just get a feel on what your doing.

  • well i signed up for band at my school but i made my desicion and want to play the saxophone but thx

  • @DOUBLEBFACTORY you got to buzz your lips like you put your lips together but push them alittle!!!! and then blpw and you should here a buzz sound. well ask a trupet player they know what there talkin about but not this one! oh and i play trupet but im not a very good exsplainer XD

  • @DOUBLEBFACTORY Yes.

  • aweful

  • this is absolutely terrible. is this a joke?

  • @nebraska12 dude shut up hes good

    (1) I bet you cant even buzz.

    (2) you better go out and stop judging people.

    (3) and three, i dont even know how to make a 3 for you.

  • @budcat8 Even though nebraska12 might not be able to »buzz«, he/she is probably still perfectly able to tell if the instructions presented in this video are worth following for someone trying to learn the instrument.

  • Thanks for that. It looked like you held your breath momentarily in the demo which compromised the sound quality slightly. The wonderful army folks from Washington (512th Regiment I think??) indicate to never hold your breath while playing; not even for an instant as it will restrict the outgoing air flow. Check out their Youtube instructionals. These have helped me - hope they help you too!!! :)

  • @mcsaint23 Yeah. That's also the advice from the 215th Army National Guard Band from Mass.

  • that didnt teach me anything

  • the irony is unbearable, :D im a pretty good drummer, but ive always wanted to play trumpet, and we've had an old one sitting in the closet for ages, my inspiration? frikin scott dean, curse him lol triple c is impossible >:P

  • hes flat

  • Also too many long notes. He doesn't jam. Check out my band's new video "In Lieu Of Bessie" for some real trumpet playing.

  • thanks 4 ur help (happy face)!!!!!!!

  • u taughted me better then mr.uruski

  • i'm milles from you teacher off all instrument, i must tell you, youre one idiot, do you listening your sound?

  • ok well circle breathing (i think its called) is not that easy!! people do not do it allll the time

  • all i kno is he can play better than me V.v

  • This guy has no idea of what he is saying!

  • my tumpet is not playing the right sound. i don't know whats wrong it sounds lower than it is supposed to be. Tell me whats wrong!!!!

  • you're embushure might me too low.

  • co on odpier dala sam niech sie nauczy grac i jak on oddech nabiera

  • when playing a piece of music you don'tbreathing in through your nose will NOT get you enough air to keep playing untill the next breath mark. You have to use your mouth to get the air

  • thanks 4 the tip : )

  • 0:30- where else do you breathe from other than your lungs?

  • a diaphragm is not something you can fill with air, my friend....and yes, breathing thru the nose never works, as you clearly demonstarte in this video....but, on the other hand....I've been a professional touring, gigging, trumpet player for 20 years and have been thinking of a way to get more students, thx for the inspiration....you have over 25,000 views for some really un-insightful advice on breathing and tone production

  • why is every comment about breathing through your nose have a negative. they are right. you don't breathe through your nose.

  • dont teach kids the wrong thing dumbass u breath through ur mouth and u suck

  • you dont BREAT THROUGH YOUR NOSE

  • @360owner360 yea u dont breath through ur nose

  • @360owner360 You also don't spell with an h

  • i still cant do it :(

  • Your tut is good for beginners...

    its very helpful...

  • The breathing in through the nose causes so much tension in your playing. You cannot even hold a note in tune.

  • you dont breathe through your nose...its too small a cavity.

  • for a teacher you sound bad

  • Being a Teacher is to be knowledgeable, not a professional.

  • you should use the TIP of your tounge. not the back

  • how i have just bought mine, and now i cant even make any sound! is there any technics that i need to know before blowing? please help me!

  • This guy is NOT an expert at the trumpet

    DO NOT listen to him

  • OKAY! PPLZ PLEASE DONT COMMENT IF U H8 IT CUZ THATS REALLY MEAN

HE TOOK THE TIME, REHEARSED AND FINnaly did it JUST TO SEE MEAN RIDICULAS COMMENTS?? SERIOUSLY GET A LIFE AND U HAVE NO SOCIAL LIFEZZ! ITS MEAN< CRUEL AND STUPID TO SEEE U ACTING LIKE THAT!!

  • Dude, vallium. No need to scream like a nut.

  • sorry man, but i play the trumpet and that is way too much crap for a beginner to remember.

  • HaHaHa u crappy beginner

  • dude. i'm a trumpet player. and i know that you're not supposed don't breathe through your nose.

  • seriously

  • soooooooooooo??? who noes he might be right u might be

  • how i have just bought mine, and now i cant even make any sound! is there any technics that i need to know before blowing? please help me!

  • you dont blow into to it you buzz

  • Why the hell would you buy the instrument if you dont know how to play ?

  • How could you learn to play it if you didn't have it?

  • yeah these guys are fags, they should be born with the knowledge of how to play trumpet. screw you guys.

  • Say "oh" and then "em", I find it easier to make a sound when the lower lip dominates the mouthpiece. Buzzing is produced by the flapping of your lips so blowing into the mouthpiece will not create a sound.

  • dude you look funny at 1:50...you sound really bad on all instruments you play.

  • I could go on for quite some time -chokes-

    Haha xD

    Breathe through the nose?

  • um...dont listen to this guy. i have played the trumpet for 5 yrs and i was always told not to breath through my nose. Breathing through you nose doesn't give you the proper air support that you would need to play more then one note like this guy showed u. ALWAYS breath from your diaphragm. If your are watching this to learn to play a brass intrument or any instrument DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY!!!!!

  • ditto that. always breath through ur mouth using ur diaphragm, unless u're trying to circular breathe xP

  • No you moron you don't breath through your nose. You are not filling up all the way at any point though your nose. Also breathing through your mouth gives your more air... There are those who can breath at the same time as playing, my friend can do it, but that is only for sustaining notes. Filling up your diaphragm its so much harder through your nose... So don't listen to this guy...

  • Good luck filling up your diaphram. Also kids, don't breathe through your nose...

  • my teacher said there is a technique where you play and are able to breathe at the same time and it requires breathing out of your nose so he isn't completely wrong but still i would practice what i teach before trying to teach someone else

  • @piplup10203854 Yeah Circle Breathing. You tank up a little air in the cheeks w/ tension while you breathe in through the nose. I have never tried it... I have only heard it described. I can see using it for a sustained 6-8 (or longer) measure tied note, but otherwise, I see circle breathing as impractical. Anyone with actual circle breathing experience, please feel free to pick up or correct where I left off.

  • @NewHeathen78 Circular breathing is impractical. There's always somewhere you can sneak a quick breath, whether by shortening a sustained note or by omitting a note (always being careful of course not to interrupt the phrase). Really, the only reason you would ever need to circular breathe is if you're playing something with extended technique (like some kind of contemporary composition that would probably specifically call for it), or if you're Allen Vizzutti and do it just because you can.

  • @jcpenney1898 I hate to contradict you but MANY professionals circular breath, in practical situations, i.e. shows, orchestras. A lot more modern music written in shows and orchestras have HUGE demands on breathing, and it forces Circular to become practical.

  • lets hear 12 major scales under two minutes, and 4 measures of common time, straight sixteenths, double tongued, ok :-p

  • WTF....are you teaching people to play this way! This a retards take on the trumpet. just stop before you slowly ruin performing groups every where via the de-evolution of the virtuoso trumpeter

  • what the? breathe throught nose?? that funny haha...

  • It doesn't matter if it's a brass instrument or a woodwind. Like it's been stated, breath in through your mouth and use your diaphragm. That's where the true sound comes out, and what musicians aim for. Breathing through the nose isn't the right way to go because you don't get enough air to support your sound.

  • you need to specify what you're talking about, esp. when breathing through your nose is a fine technique for warming your body up for playing. Empty your whole diaphragm then breath in for 8 counts through your nose, hold for 8, out for 8 through your mouth. Things like that, but breathing through your nose is 100% wrong when you're playing anything on the trumpet. You're remarkably out of tune on that concert F because you breathed in cold air. 100% wrong. Breath as if you're yawning.

  • Do you take drugs?

  • dude i been playin tumpet for 5 year and i have never breathed through my nose

  • WHO ARE YOU? YOU STARTING TO PISS ME OFF! You are teaching it all wrong!! DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY!

  • that is just wrong. never breathe through you nose.

You can find many places to take a quick breath while playing, but if you try to take those long drawn out breaths every time you ruine the music

  • wow dude...you call yourself a professional? that was a nice attack at the beginning of the note...not! you used just air to start your sound, you didnt have have your embrochure set right, which resulted in an airy, fluttered start to your sound. an expert you are not

  • god. ur not supposed to breath through ur nose u dumbass. And plus ur also not suposed o move ur shoulders when u breath. Fuckin retard "professional"

  • your not supposed to breath through your nose , or so i was told

  • Thanks for the breathing tip

  • I hope that's sarcasm...

  • Rubbish teaching - and rubbish production of first note. Sorry. From a fellow 'professional trumpet teacher and music educator'

  • breathing through nose on any brass instrument = epic fail

  • DR PHIL!!

  • lol ur bald

  • HOLY SHIT I CAN'T GET OVER THIS SHIT. He even tells you not to breath through your mouth..........

  • No, you do NOT want to breath in through your nose, because you dont get as much air. Where did you find out to breath through your nose?

  • people, is this guy dave brubeck ? i'm not sure thats why i'm asking so please dont laugh at me if he's not ! :D thx

  • oh please oh please dont listen to this guy he doesnt know what hes talking about i mean BREATH THROUGH UR NOSE are u kidding me!!!!!!!!!! DONT LISTEN TO HIM!!! PLEASE IT WILL SAVE YOUR TRUMPET PLAYING...im still confused were this duech got breathing through the nose..

  • It's nice you're trying to teach but you NEVER EVER BREATH THROUGH YOUR NOSE WHEN PLAYING THE TRUMPET. Quickly, while you're sitting at your desk breath in through your nose quickly and blow out. Now breath through your mouth with a HOH sound and blow. Did you notice how much air came out on the mouth breathing? The nose breathing is enough to give a poor sound and for you musical people a nose breather's forte is a mouth breather's pianissimo.

  • not true at all, obviously when your playing fast the nose will be much less efficient but there is nothing wrong with it when your playing a long tone... and why in the world would breathing through your nose only allow you to play pianissimo?

  • GASP! That picture in the backround is unbalanced..4 stars..

  • cheers!

  • thanks for the lesson!!!

  • thanks a lot man!
