  • sorry if you dont understand it...ts about maping the PADS on the MPK49 not the keys! and im trying to use an MIDI instrument like the classic simpler to trigger instantaneously the samples...how to do it?

  • Hey man would you please make a tutorial on how to load drum samples into a MPK 49 and use them? im using an Akai APC40 and an MPK49 but unfortunately it is not that easy to map the play button if i load some sounds on a simpler for example...i can only map the buttons easyly on the APC40 on the session view but im wondering on how to do the same whit the pads on the MPK49 PADS, cheers

  • @Miroslawsnketr I don't use an mpk49 so I can't do a tutorial on it, check the notes/octaves that the pads are responding to

  • he bro, im usin live intro n i was wonderin if dere was a way i can download an upgrade o smethng cuz i cant seem to get dat empty drum rack ur usin

  • @The0319Love you will have to purchase the full version to create your own drum racks.

  • @SoundsAndGear ah ok den in dat case il jst hve to go out and buy another version of ableton hopefully il b able to do so on dat one, btw gotta say even tho i wasn able to do as u did on ur tutorial i manage to do n learn smethng new so i say thnx bro

  • @The0319Love no doubt fam glad to help

  • Hey Joe, do you know if the full version of live (not live suite) comes with the 'sampler' instrument. I have live lite and was thinking of upgrading

  • @joe5head the full version only comes with simpler, if you want sampler you need to have live suite or you can purchase sampler as an upgrade on it's own

  • Hey man, everytime i want so slice to MIDI i get an error message and Live just closes.. do you know whats wrong there?

  • @enjOi47 no I do not, sorry

  • this is great. is there a way i can set it up to have the pads set up to mirror the midi send of an mpc 2000xl as a preset?

  • @Makinthadough you can setup your midi notes however you want, so that they match the mpc if that's your controller. That's a midi mapping issue though no so much an issue of how you chop.

  • is this only available in certain versions of ableton?

  • @aligboyakasha the full versions

  • @SoundsAndGear damn...

  • dam i was expectin a phonecall when i was watchin this hahaha

  • i have a question... i cant find that ableton library > defaults > slices folder to save the demo chop to.. any idea whatsup?

  • @mannys737 nah, not sure why, it's in the default folder but it may have changed in version 8, this is version 7 in this video

  • I have one more question how you can get the full version

  • @dame12712 purchase the upgrade

  • Oh ok thank you

  • Hi can you help me out please I have the serial number it came with my mpd32 I brought it brand new I'm useing mac g5

  • @dame12712 the copy that comes with the mpd or any other midi controller is not the full version, it is a "lite" or "intro" version, you need the full verison of ableton to do this since you can only create drum racks with the full version.

  • It came with my mpd32 brand new

  • @dame12712 yep, it's not the full version, it's either intro or lite, you need the full version to be able to create your own drum racks

  • nice video it won't let me create a m drum rack

  • @dame12712 you need to have the full version of ableton live, intro or lite will not work.

  • Very helpful thanks much!

  • @TactiK glad to help fam

  • Great videos & awesome site, thanks man

  • @noiseey cool fam, thanks for the comment, glad to help

  • Big Thanks man!

  • @Tester2244 no doubt fam, glad to help.

  • FUCKING GREAT MAN THANK YOU

  • @PureMadness83 glad to help fam

  • When I go to the library's "default" folder it olny has a "slicer" subfolder, not the other ones. does anyone know where I can find the "dropping samples" folder?

  • I saved my presets but when i click on "slce to new midi" it doesnt let me choose the slicing preset. Its just greyed out as "built in" why is this? What do i need to so to have my preset as an option?

  • @lokalkidd oh, not sure why it would do that, I've never come across that problem.

  • Big up Joe!

  • this was a HUGE HELP

  • @pjcasabuena glad to help fam

  • Thanks mate! this is awesome stuff

  • @electrickabuki glad to help, thanks for the comment

  • i am new to this so sorry ! I have ableton live INTRO and i am trying to chop up a song and sample those parts . i saw a video from ski beats and tried to do what he was doing as far as warping the sample but i couldnt "slice to midi track" and i can't use his preset or know how to get any pre sets. :( HOW DO I CHOP UP A SONG AND ASSIGN IT TO MY KEYBOARD ( I USE THIS FOR THE MEANTIME WHILE I INVEST IN A MPK25) . PEOPLE SAY I NEED THE SAMPLER WHICH DOESNT COME WITH INTRO? PLEASE HELP !

  • @djayrock10 I don't know if intro comes with drum racks so it may not work

  • @SoundsAndGear okay thank you !

  • @djayrock10 Ableton Live Intro and Live Lite don't allow instrument editing and/or midi slicing. you'll likely need to obtain a full version. i have been trying to find a way to do this for a while with the APC20 and Live Lite. i can hammer out beats on my 2LPD8's (stacked they look like an MPC) but only the origional MPC drum sounds, not sliced samples.

  • Been tryin to fig out how to sample for awhile now. You just helped alot. Iv been trying to do it in studio one but cant fig out how to slice it how i want to. i also have ableton lite but havnt used it yet and am going to try this out thanx alot.

  • Is there a way to make the samples keep playing if you hold the key/drumpad down. Like tapping would make it play 4 secs, and holding it would allow you to play it longer.

  • @Rz4rect0r mess with the sustain and release for the slices

  • i just got ableton but i dont see the "default" folder in that spot. all the other ones are there though, any ideas?

  • @encdee no idea, what version do you have? I did this a while ago with version 7, so not sure if anything changed in version 8, I have updated but haven't tried this in that version.

  • @SoundsAndGear I have version 8.2.1

I am also curious if its a version thing. if you get a chance to look it up let me know.

  • @SoundsAndGear its cool. I just had to "repair library" in preferences. I must have deleted it by accident. THanks for the videos. Now I can actually follow the steps!

  • @encdee nice!

  • lol the cellphone

    great videos!

  • @efsq LOL, thanks for watching :)

  • Thanks for this tut, great help !

    I just wonder, and it would be huge help if you knew ;

Once your samples are chopped, is it possible to export them individualy to get as many .wav as there is chopped samples ? To use ableton as a sort of "advanced very easy chopper" for the MPC then..

Please if you got any idea.

  • @Joflouside not that I know of. But I haven't really tried to do so, I don't use Live for chopping much these days.

  • good stuff. thanks for the vid

  • yo!first thx for this good tutorial! :))

question: mhhh i did everything like you and the samples cut themselve off as they should but when i hit my midi key just short then the sample is getting quieter at the end, why?!sustain is all up so it should be the same as if i would hold my midi pad down until the sample is finished right (?) but it isnt :(

    thx 4 help

  • @Ph0eNiX31337 not sure why it's doing that, I haven't used this method in a while so not sure. Seems like you have the right settings though.

  • this is by far the best info. Thanks man!

  • @jakedo508 glad to help

  • @JooJooBnutz it's supposed to go to the drum rack not simpler, drum rack is made up of multiple simpler instruments, one on each pad.

  • How is this possible with the launchpad?

  • @RainK9 I don't have a launchpad so i couldn't tell you, sorry.

  • @RainK9 You can use the default User 1 Preset on the launchpad to launch midi notes. After the sample is chopped and in your drum rack, hit User 1 and if you dont have a custom preset on this channel, your 16 pads in the bottom right will be your "MPC" pads

  • I have Ableton Lite Akai Edition that came with my MPD32 but there is no drum rack in the instrument section. I can use impulse but the drum rack doesn't seem to exist...

i[dot]imgur[dot]com/TA61E.jpg for picture, can someone help me out?

It was a real bitch to install and I can't use it the way I want to... for some reason I can't even MIDI map on my controller, I don't know why this is such a pain to learn to use.

  • @tobywongcharliechang could be because it's a lite edition, you will not be able to create custom drum racks in the lite version

  • I dont have "Dropping Samples" On my default. Any Idea where it is?

  • @tyrocks14 not sure where it would be if it's not there, it should be in there. I haven't messed with ableton in a while so not too sure.

  • What about Impulse?

  • thumbs up if you paused at 2:31 to look for your ringing house phone

  • @BmxLad13 hahahahahaha!

  • @BmxLad13 if i didnt see this comment lol i would have paused and went for my phone lol

  • @BmxLad13

    hehehe

  • This is a real good tutorial, one thing I'm stuck on is how to edit the start and end points for each slice? I know it's prob real easy but I can't figure it out...

  • @oscarnonweiler once you slice you have to go into the simpler for each pad to do that, each pad is a simpler device so you need to click on the little list icon to expand the rack.

  • Hey Joe, do you notice a clipping sound on each chop?

  • @Imhoteption no, you can edit your chops after the fact if you need to, to get rid of clicks at the end or beginning

  • I'm super new to ableton. How do you record your new slices over a track ? Stupid question I know but I can't seem to figure it out without saving the slices individually.

  • @vcart54 record enable the track you have the drum rack on, then record your loop via midi.

  • Love the video...I'm going to purchase ableton live suite and can't wait to use it!

  • @magnolia2slim cool, glad to help

  • in great gratitude to you good sir, this was very helpful!! bless,

    tjandizzlebeatz

  • @Tjandizzlebeatz cool, glad to help

  • Straight to the point... Great tutorial.

  • @BearsSupaRock thanks for watching

  • Thanks alot for the info man. But, not to sound dumb, what is a choke group?

  • @OutCrowdBeats glad to help, anything put into the same choke group will cut each other off, so one sound will cut off the other when triggered if they are in the same choke group

  • Thank you!

  • @danlar84 no problem

  • GREAT VIDEO... THANX FOR THE INFO...

  • @rumone no problem, thanks for watching.

  • thanks man, helped a ton.

  • @johnqpublic2718 glad to help

  • How can you say?, dont talk like i know how everyone else works? My first question was "whats the point if it doesn't stretch?", your response started with the word "everyone", so...lol Its all good

  • @CarreraIsNow I said not everyone uses timestretch lol, that means, some do, and some don't you said what's the point if it doesn't stretch like everyone needs or uses it. Just leave it alone man, it's a lost cause bro, you're not making sense.

  • the statement "many dont use timestretch at all" is ridiculous. Have you ever owned one?

  • @CarreraIsNow lol dude I used an mpc for years, as well as asr10s, asrx, and other sampler/groove boxes. I know plenty producers that use mpcs, and all sorts of devices, it's obvious you're new to the game if you think everyone uses timestretch. If you use it, cool but don't assume everyone does. You do know the whole reason people started chopping up loops was to manually adjust the tempo themselves right? As in, no timestretch, you make it fit manually by chopping and playing it back.

  • u can't stretch in sampler, so what's the point? you have to keep on going back

  • @CarreraIsNow everyone doesn't need to stretch, some stretch first then chop, others don't stretch at all.

  • @SoundsAndGear Stretching first and then chopping is not MPC style. And who doesn't stretch?, that's just ridiculous, stretching while improvising adds the creativity element to it, and thats what an MPC does. This does not.

  • @CarreraIsNow lol, it's not mpc style? Look, if this doesnt work for you that's cool, but don't talk like you know how everyone else works. People don't stretch first then chop? Are you serious? Do you even have or have you ever owned an mpc? It doesn't auto stretch man lol, it's an offline process. Chopping samples then having each pad cut each other off is one of the main features many love from the mpc. And many don't use timestretch at all.

  • this video is great, but can you play the samples out with a midi controller ?

  • @GTrizza not sure what you mean by that, you can trigger them via midi notes you enter

  • @SoundsAndGear Its all good man i got it thanks tho

  • @GTrizza cool no doubt fam, glad you got it homie

  • how do you make the mpc preset in the groove menu?

  • @debonairthadon I didn't do anything in the groove menu, just the slice menu.

  • i never learned so much so quick. thank you i am new to ableton

  • @debonairthadon cool, glad to help

  • mad thanks, man! i'll definitely be checking out your other stuff

  • @kakeeman no doubt fam, thanks for watching

  • HELPPPPP i have Live Lite 8 Akai Professional Edition and the drum rack is like a folder so wenever i open it up theres otheers subfolders is there like a live pack that i need or suttin

  • @MontanaMusiq I don't believe you can do this with Live LIte, it doesn't allow you to edit/create drum racks.

  • @SoundsAndGear ooh ok thnx but its not really live lite dats wat it shows like on da bar on da bottom where it shows all da programs, but like da folder nd setup nd all da is called live 8.2.1.

  • @MontanaMusiq yeah, it's Live 8.2.1 but it's still the Lite version, if it came with a controller or something, it's the Lite version and it won't let you edit the drum racks you can only playback premade drum rack kits

  • @SoundsAndGear oooh ok ok i see yeah kk thnxx nd great tut nd i like da fast replies lmao i was expectin for u to reply in like days

  • @MontanaMusiq no doubt fam, glad to help!

  • Thanks, this was really helpful, exactly what I was looking for.

  • @Etamin925 glad to help!

  • good post...

  • you could also use the slice to midi option. not sure if thats on 7 but 8 has it.

  • @23trickiedot yep, that's what I did

  • @Skyknight22 not dedicated videos on chopping samples but I chop samples in a lot of my videos

  • @Skyknight22 just like I did in the video, you can make them do whatever you wish.

  • thanks a lot man! much appreciated!

  • @CloudRedProductions no doubt fam

  • awesome

  • Perfect tutorial man. ta

  • @MrFormatk glad to help

  • Thanks for the Tut' man - good shit...Ableton is hella powerful and is probably underated as a good production tool. Akai and Ableton are a match made in heaven. I use Ableton with my MPC1000 (use MPC as MIDI pads) when I just wanna work within the DAW and not MPC sequencer. I have only recently started uploading my beats, but have a listen and let us know what you think...All done with MPC and Live...Peace - Docman.

  • Thanks Great Tutorial

  • @1InAMillionDJS glad to help yo!

  • i just started using ableton literally 2 weeks ago and i found this tutorial helpful

  • First and foremost thanks for the video. Some constructive criticizm; Try not to jump around so much and don't expect everyone to know the basics of the software. You went from using a drum rack to chopping samples and creating / saving presets without playing a single note until the end.. You spoke very fast. Start basic, explain, show, then play and let us hear, then move on. Thanks for taking the time though. That's just my 2 cents.

  • @bytepushersmusic thanks, this was about a specific task, not an overall tutorial on ableton live, it's not even about the notes that are being played but the settings that need to be made to make this specific task work. Thanks again.

  • @SoundsAndGear i haven't been on ableton for more than a few hours and i'm able to comprehend everything quite well... good tutorial

  • @roboedar glad to help man, thanks for the comment

  • Hey I bought a MPK25 and it came with ableton proffessional so when i try to drop the drum rack over it wont let me. any ideas?

  • @VeneratedWatchman probably came with a version of ableton where you can't edit the drum racks, only play the preset drum rack kits.

  • @SoundsAndGear ok so does that mean i cant chop up songs on my MPC pad because that's really what i got it for...

  • @VeneratedWatchman you should be able to "slice to midi" and it will put them into drum racks for you I believe, depends on which version came with your controller.

  • @VeneratedWatchman Torrent a full version of Ableton, it's hella disappointing to have those shit sample versions of ableton.

  • hey real helpful tutorial brah!

  • @riversgroove glad to help!

  • Thanks. Helpful video

  • @djarpit cool man, glad to help

  • Thanks,it sure sounds like you know what your doin,i'm not even that familiar ith what you were sayin..yet,I'm only 3 days with the lite/apc version,Hopefully in time, for me,Great job,Thanks Man...

  • @djcheechoz thanks for watching man, you'll be familiar with it in no time.

  • Ufff . Thanks you zioom. Ufffff

  • @Rafael701full thanks for watching

  • o alright man. thanks. hmm everytime i open drum rack and drag in a sample it plays it as a one shot? i thought everytime i open up drum rack it goes back to default unless i drag the "one shots" folder to it?

  • @jorelpri if you dragged the "oneshot" preset to your drum rack defaults it will always open up in that mode, you don't drag it onto drum rack. So you can delete the preset and it should work.

  • hey man everytime i open up a drumrack and drag a sample into their they always come out as one shots. How do i take this out ? Or at least back to the default set at least. SO One shots are good for melodies rather then just one notes? You should do a vid on how you make a hiphop song with a sample and the best way to chop up and sample. and everything and really break it down.Props to this vid.

  • @jorelpri uhhhm, I'm not sure what you mean by "regular" oneshot means it will play the sound all the way through each time you hit the key as opposed to only playing the sound when you hold down the key

  • Nice lesson!; Question: After I chop one file with a few slices, say there are 4 chains. but then I want take a different sample from a different file and slice 4 more slices, but I want all slices in the same midi track so I can play back with out having to stop and switch to a differnt track. Is that possible?

To have multiple simplers in one, chopping different files, with the end result having all the slices together for easy play back??

  • @reazon I never tried that so I can't say for sure, best way is to try it and see lol, you may find a new way of working!

  • @SoundsAndGear K cool, I been trying just thought you might know. Thanks!

  • Do you know any videos that can help me set up ableton live 8 with my korg pad kontrol?

  • @jorelpri not sure, what are you trying to do? It should be plug and play, go into preferences into the midi remote settings and choose the padkontrol as the control surface, turn it on as the input for midi

  • Thank you man

  • alright cool, thanks man.

  • how do you delete a sample thats already in simpler?

  • @Greenpowerr if it's in simpler I just replace it with a different sample or reload simpler over it to clear it out

  • This is a great review man. Definitely helps people new to Ableton and people looking to learn something new. Been wanting to know how to do this for about 2 months now. Thanks a lot.

  • @fuzzymist cool man, glad to help!

  • ableton live 8.2 haven't got "1shot chop n mute" ;[

  • @taknie12 that's a preset I made myself in ableton.
