Hey, love your vids. Great technique, which you've mastered, and effects. I've been playing for over 20 yrs, all kinds of music, but my fav is usually more 'heavy'. But it's interesting that most of what passes as "amazing" is merely effect and technique. I remember watching the Edge talk about this, playing with technique and effect and then playing clean, which sounds so empty. lol But that's rock 'n roll. Love your stuff. Like to see you play more, though. One of the best players on the Tube.
Is this the TH2 demo you're using? that's all I see on their site & I don't get any full version hits when I google it. Your sounds are so amazing in your vids so I really wanted to check it out, could you point me in the right direction? Also what kind of interface are you using( I'm a total virgin when it comes to guitar software) Thank you so much, I really enjoy your videos& your playing is awesome, take care- James
@psychoholic72 I'm using the full version that I bought last Christmas on sale. Actually, they are having the same sale again, which seems to occur only like once or twice a year. I strongly recommend you check out the demo and make up your mind by the 24th. The full version is $179 on sale (what I paid) or $299 when it's not on sale. That's a pretty steep discount.
@psychoholic72 Ran out of room! You can download the demo and simply upgrade to the full license. Check out the demo and see if you like it. If it works for you, the full version is just a matter of getting the license. And thanks for the kind words about my playing. For more about my rig, check out my video entitled "My Rig." It gives more details about my setup. Rock on, James!!
just got my ups box last night with the Overloud TH2 ....wow now i KNOW what your saying.....i need too read this manual...its involved that for sure....i am loveinf this thing....too take a quote from you!!!
i just thought of something while i was watching you Steve...why dont you do a demo vid with ALL of the Chinese Pauls you have at once....demo and show all the ones you have???...just a thought ...thanks
@TheXXXDB I thought about that, but I can't get the lighting too good and they definitely look different sideways on the rack than straight on. I think I've shown them all, anyway. The last one was the red one that I used in the video with Jon. I've had that one for over a year, so that was the last of the unknown LPs.
@HearingLossProvider Yeah, a buddy of mine was running the lessons in the Dedham store. He opened a new place down the street, not wanting to lose all those students. That store was brand new, too, with a stage and everything. They had open jams and all kinds of events/clinics. So f'n bummed....
@ErosaScuderia That was one of the ones that closed over the summer. They closed the rest in October. They had 20 stores, then cut it to 12. That went to 0 in late October.
@bluesboydude There's tons of info on the Internet that are better than myself for tutorials on computer audio. I think a google search would serve you better than I could. My gear is almost ten years old, so I have no idea what's out there for audio interfaces these days. Tone Port by Line6, M-Audio used to be big, but I have no idea what's the latest rage in audio I/O.
i should also say i don't see anything in newish bands which catches my ear, possibly white stripes / jack white but i only found him via the guitar doco it might get loud
i think the days of really good riff have past, dare say it was only a matter of time
@leokimvideo Well, back in the 70s and 80s, skill on the instrument was necessary, even revered. Then the 90s came along and if you knew how to play, you were a sellout. Not knowing and not giving a shit seemed to be the norm. Hopefully the playing of the 70s and 80s will come back.
@PixxyLixxx whats interesting is how quiet the greats are about how they pulled their sounds, Page is a classic example as i felt in the doco 'it might get loud' getting info out of Page was like trying to get blood out of a stone. Dare say these players knew their knowledge was part of the keys to the kingdom.
Interesting to see The Edge in that doco, personally I would have chosen Prince..!, he's quite a player if you know where to look
i should tell you how i found your channel, i love looking at the videos of Jimmy Page talking guitars ( not many of them around ) and in the related list was one of your how to spot a fake les paul, and seeing how good the fakes are really surprised me.
I like your playing because it looks so natural for you, and not many guitarists have this look, i'm a Pete Townshend / Jimmy Page fan, but Ace from Kiss is still my hero..lol
@leokimvideo Yeah, huge Page and Townshend fan, as well. Ace was my hero for the longest time. I was so into Kiss in the late 70s, I had every inch of my bedroom walls covered in Kiss posters. Of course, now I see those same posters listed as "vintage" on eBay and selling for $50-$100 ea, unlike the $2.50 - $7 I spent on them....
@PixxyLixxx i really liked Townshends solo albums, for me they are the jewel in the crown, also Pages solo work was a hit for me, but with Ace it was his early Kiss work which is where it's at, his playing is so much of the original Kiss sound. As many say Ace was the real rock star in that band but all the eyes were on Paul and Gene
Wow just wow! Very entertaining and great information! I have a 1990 Wine Red Les Paul Custom that I rarely ever play anymore since I'm more into the acoustics now but after watching this vid I am seriously considering selling it to finance the SJ200 I've wanted for years and buying a TradeTang Lester in case I ever do get the urge to get back to the electric which I might add you have seriously got me interested in again! You Rock Sir! I am definitely a new fan!
@lukewood77 Thank you!! Much appreciated!! The Lesters are nice, but they are hit or miss and often need work. Still, though, even with the flaws, a little bit of work and some new hardware can produce a stellar instrument. Is it as good as a real LP? No, but they're still pretty damn good. Your post reminds me that I have a nice solid-wood Larrivee acoustic around here somewhere. I should break it out for a video someday.
You need to replace Eddie Trunk on That Metal Show! As much as I love Eddie's show I would much rather see you on there with your guitar jamming with and chatting with famous Rock Gods! Thanks for the excellent guitar playing, and informative demos love the way you make it look like so much fun! You are the Unknown Rock God!
dude you rock great channel ive been looking for one like this where you just sorta share info and stuff and talk about music whiel playing its a super chiil channel you got going keep it up man!! also as a 6 month long guitarist haha i just wanted to know youve played for 40 years is there any song you cant play?
@fallout785 Thanks so much! Yeah, there's a few songs I can't play, for sure, but I'm still trying to keep my chops up. Most tunes I know are old, like from the 80s and older. So I've had a long time to practice them, to say the least, HA!! Just keep practicing, bro, it gets easier and easier with time.
Man, Steve, those patches are sweet sounding. Wow. You inspire me to go the guitar software route on each vid you do. Hope you have a rockin weekend my brother!
@PDXguitarfreak Thanks, Dave! Yeah, I'm loving the software amps. They just keep getting better and better. Have a nice weekend, too. I'll be raking leaves, painting walls, sealing roof leaks and, time permitting, playing guitar. ;)
hell yeah! We are so excited to take a glance of it. I haven't changed the pups on my lester paul as well, I just bought a Jet city JCA30H, good pricey amps, you should check them out, anyways, rock on dude!!!
Hi, i was wondering how low audio latency you get with your software? I run my guitar trough a edirol ua-25 audio device and my software is "telling" me the "audio buffer size" is 224 samples (5.1 ms). But it really sounds like more. In your video it allmost seems you get zero latency with th2. What kind of audio capturing device you use?
@889Tarzan I'm using a Tascam PCI-822 with the buffers set to 128 samples (2.7ms). With TH2, I can go as low as 64 samples and it gets down to 1.5ms, but then Guitar Rig 5 and the Revalver demo won't work without crackling. So I keep it at 128 samples, even though Guitar Rig really needs 256 to get the convolution reverb to work without error crackles. See if you can go lower. That 5.1ms you're getting gets repeated in the chain: 5.1ms input, 5.1ms processing, and 5.1ms output: total 15.3ms.
your new video is outstanding as always!! I love the presets your using too in TH2
especially the Dimi clean channel. it's amazing how close these amp modeling software packages are replicating all this gear, If I had all this software available back in the 70's growing up, I would have definately persued music professionally as a career. but better late than never like they say. keep it up Brother. btw: you might wanna check into getting Amplitube 3. the gear in that program is Insane
@stratomaster516 Thanks! I want to check Amplitube out more, but it won't play nice with my audio card. I tried the Revalver demo, though, and I thought that had some good sounds.
Hey Steve, thats too bad about your audio card not being very compatible, I dont know when you last tried but Amplitube has had a few major upgrades in the last year or so addressing the hardware and latency issues.
theres actually 3 settings in A3 now allowing the user to use the program in low, med, and high CPU mode
alot of users of A3 were in the same boat as you and IK multimedia really tweaked it good. its alot more hardware friendly than the earlier versions. hope this helps
