rez take a bow wat a crackn vid you have uploaded this is my all time fav boxer the brown bomber joe louis that man had the power an speed to take anyone on if he wer alive today he wud laugh at dem fools in the heavyweight div thinkin there heavyweights ppl lik chisora an david haye ect ect, i think david haye wud complain about alot more than a broken toe if he was in the ring with joe louis as he wud get smashed to bits
It's amazing how he joe louis just knocks the opponent and does not even celebrate and show off like the fighters of today who i think are a joke!! He is my favourite boxer along with Rocky.
@bruceperera yes that was also a rule he was made to follow though. to be the anti jack johnson. but it sure looks badass when he walks away like that
@Quidtucenam Fair enough, there were a few guys like John Henry Lewis that he faced in his prime. His greatness is, for me, his beautiful 1947 KO of Walcott in their 2nd fight, proving that whatever racial barriers existed, Louis would have been dominant because Walcott was damn good, as seen in their first fight. l dont say this to diminish his greatness. He was just SO much better than the available competition, like Clay/Ali in the 60's and Tyson in the late 80's.
@Quidtucenam For whatever reason? What reason do you think, in 1930's America, there might have been? I didn't say he avoided them, the point I was making was that most black fighters of the 30's were not even allowed to fight professionally and even get ranked to challenge for the title. That's why we don't even know their names. Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, and Archie Moore all fought in that circuit before finally entering mainstream pro boxing in the late 40's when Louis was done.
@pilates68 Sorry, I'm used to the arguement that Louis' avoided 'x sort of fighter'
While it's fully possible that there were black contenders that were more talented than some of the opposition Joe Louis faced, but you can't really fault him for that, he faced every #1 contender bar two for a full quarter of a century. Every fighter that managed to distinguished himself, he fought.
Also he fought and beat black contender John Henry Lewis, as well as Elmer Ray in an exhibition match.
Only Max Schmeling and Billy Conn were talented enough to give Joe Louis trouble. Despite the "cinerella man" stuff, l don't regard Jimmy Braddock as being anything but a decent tough guy and the same for Max Baer. These ware not accomplished boxers by any means. They were in Dempsey's shadow, and they fought like it, aggressive head hunting, but limited boxing skills.
It should be said that Joe Louis did not face some of the other talented black fighters of the day because the white sports world did not believe that a white audience would pay to see two black fighters. Louis ended up facing mostly unskilled tough man types who were way out of his league. Attitudes would change, and by the end of his career Ezzard Charles and Joe Walcott were given an opportunity to fight for his title. Louis was great, but this truth is undeniable.
@pilates68 Which black fighters did he avoid? He fought EVERY relevant fighter, it just so happens that there weren't that many black ones in this era for whatever reason. He beat the three black contenders who reached #1 status (CHarles, Walcott and Bivins)
Louis fought every champion between Tunney and Patterson, every #1 contender between Young Stribling in 1928 and Nino Valdes in 1953 with the exceptions of Steve Hamas and Melio Bettina.
THUMBS UP if you guys think there should be a Hollywood movie about Joe Louis. I don't count "The Joe Louis Story" because it's more of a bit of a cheap movie than a Hollywood movie to me although it's still a bit interesting to watch.
@reznick6 it has a guy in here who stole one of your other joe lewey tributes..what a douche and he's passing them on as if there originals..lol but I know better
MAN JOE LEWEY IS NUMERO UNO...ALI IS MY MAN BUT HE DIDNT HAVE DEVASTATING POWER..MAN LOOK HOW JOE KNOCKS THESE DUDES OUT!!!
