@Salbert33 So do I. He doesn't write books enough, I have The Hardball Handbook it's a wonderful book for 20 somethin's hip or not hip. I do wish O'Reilly would a few more times admit he gets it wrong sometimes. Chris can do it and he should do the same, I like them both. I'm like Chris I hate picking sides because my views are all over the map.
I think Chris Matthews is a great news anchor and yes because of his humble nature and wanting what is right for the country is more important than being right. That really does seperate him from the left-wing blogs like Move On and Media Matters.
Matthews curmudgeoness is just sour grapes. The foolish pride he exhibits here exposes the bitter disillusionment of a former Jimmy Carter aide who's unhealed political sores & self pity turned into self righteous success. But envy breeds contempt & his contempt is boundless save for "cripples" like himself who stalwarty defend failed policies like he did in the Carter years. He's not staking out political solidarity with any NeoCons. He's just letting them know that misery loves company.

Matthews mentions the book he plans to write about the civility between Tip ONeill and Ronald Reagan. His bitterment is justified when you compare the past civility to the nastiness of current politics. Then again Neocons have made lying their MO through Fox News so how can rational people have civility with a bunch of ideologues who will listen to nobody's ideas but their own? Case in point Rush's insistence on a teaching tour instead of a listening tour.
Irrelevant. Nothing justifies this kind of insipid pride. It's completely irrational. Only a sore loser talks this kind of nonsense. Check out the rest of the interview where he tries to tell Charlie Rose that he's a libertarian. LOL! To Rose's credit, he called Matthews out on that one & made him look like the fool that he is.
Only 1 comment here makes any sense. Matthews is a lot of things but he's not a bad guy or a mouthpiece for Obama. He's really smart, very passionate and knows his politics. He loves Washington and all that goes with it. He is loud, interrupts and waffles but he's also trying to be entertaining and maintain ratings. He is under a tremendous amount of pressure from MSNBC. Obama is a breath of fresh air for him after Cheney and Bush nearly destroyed the planet. He's liberal. So what!
Counting your comment that makes two. Matthews is probably the best guy out there because he has been in politics, and he understands the measure of respect that you have for other people who have differing views. Olbermann could never have that kind of respect. And neither could Hannity.
Thanks dserge714. Matthews is likely the best on MSNBC. It may piss you off but I respect Maddow too for her education, erudition and eloquence, but she has that preachy tone Olbermann loves. Matthews wants people to answer the tough questions, show intelligence and indicate care for the American public they most likely represent. Matthews is someone to have lunch with. Olbermann, too late to even go to a baseball game with him. He was great many years ago with Dan Patrick but he's done now..
That's the point of the MSNBC line up... You have Matthews, a political pundit and walking talking gaffe machine and gets a kick playing devil's advocate (even arguing against himself), Maddow, an academic w/ a great on-air presence - - then Olbermann who's kind the left wing version of Limbaugh (who whether you agree with him or not *is* a great broadcaster/comedian/entertainer.) Pretty good balance for an evening of TV watching.... none of the other networks offer that kind of variety!
The thing I like about Mr. Matthews the most is his enthusiasm for politics. Say what you will about him, but boring he isn't. I like both of these guys.

'he used to get high and still' ? Is that all you can say? How childish. I guess how is he as a journalist doesn't matter at all to a jerk like you, who is both childish and cynical.
Love Chris, love he doesn't mind being wrong. Ask O'reilly the same.

this guy drinks his own f-ing bathwater. He and the rest of the pundit-ocracy need to go away. All of them, left to right, smell bad.
