The Gardai were completely wrong. How on earth can people support them? A minority provoked them, the rest sat down and were beaten with batons and riot shields? Nice to see the Gardai doing there job you know, beating innocents unconscious? At least they manage to put bondholders and the real people guilty of ruining this country to justice.. Oh wait. Wake up!!!!!...The police reacted properly. Students sitting down on the road, causing public disorder, throwing planks of wood, bottles and acid at the police. It's called "Public Disorder". Police have the right to restore order. And I DO NOT see any heavy handed approaches, as relayed by the journalist. In the States we would have tear-gased them and used water cannon. The Gardai did a great job that day, the abuse and the violence that was thrown at them was just wrong. When Gardai then stand up to these idiots they bitch and moan. However I just wanna say that not all the students were causing problems, but saying that the Gardai have the right to use force.
