Dave King grew up in dublin. he left because he got in some trouble and was exiled. he finally returned when the band made a tour there when they released "Within a Mile of Home". The song itself as stated by mrZagarwagar is a cover by the Dubliner's an considerably older Irish folk band. However to get an idea of what Dave or Luke Kelly of the Dubliner's are talking about you only have to read Jame's Joyce's collection of short stories call "Dubliners"
