Wow. This was two candidates joking with each other. Hillary obviously laughed along. There is no arrogance or misogyny here. The whole process is being destroyed by all of these non-issues being portrayed as something we should care deeply about.
To be fair, Palin was also brought down by a lot of these non-issues. Her problem was she had no positive aspects to counter the irresponsible bashing.
This video is pointed out by the PUMA group as one that documents misogyny by Barack Obama. I fail to see it. This was merely an exchange of remarks and nothing that Senator Obama said indicated any kind of lack of respect for Hillary as a woman.
This is typical of the PUMA people who refuse to debate their issues in public on their forum, choosing to sit in a corner and invent all sorts of pseudo-insults like this. Demented and sad, but social.
I felt quite sorry for Hillary as that candidacy escaped her by such a small margin; she would have made a good president too, but in every contest there has to be a loser :(
In particular, this moment was not a horror of Obama's campaign as most people say, but a good example of her handling of the situation. That initial "That hurt my feelings" line made me laugh and laugh!
I am a Republican but Obama said "Your likeable enough Hillary, no doubt about it" The Know doubt about it was said right afterwards and I SAW IT. The press have this completely wrong. I support McCain because of the issues but one think I have to sat about S. Obama is that he is always a real gentleman.
Sounds to me like Barack was just joking. We've all said things that would look bad on paper if you can't hear the tone of voice. I think we need to focus on the candidates knowledge of and positions on issues, not random joking comments. Just my two cents; think about it.
Also, I respectfully disagree with eetgeok. Obama has not been in politics as long as McCain, but his stance on issues is important. I won't vote for a more experienced person if I don't support the decisions they will make.

hold on. democrats have HELPED the middle class? wtf? i am middle class. i cant even afford to go on a vacation, or a trip to the beach with my family, so i would consider myself a middle class citizen. right? wrong. democrats say that i am rich, so they take away over 60% of my money. i cant afford to eat out every now and then, and im RICH?? no. im far far far far far from rich. but they say i am and tax the living hell out of me. thats what democrats do.
Republicans cut taxes for the richest three % and let them spend like crazy without investing in the schools and infrastructure that makes the US economically competitive globally. They help the richest and tell the rest of us that the wealth will trickle down. Funny how Wall Street had a complete melt down at the end of Reagan's 8 years and again at the end of George Bush Sr's 4 years.
McCain's tax cuts will help the richest three percent, whereas Obama will tax the rich for the rest of us.
"U.S. output today is just about 40 percent higher than it was when President Clinton left office. The nominal GDP has grown from $10 trillion at the end of 2001 to $14 trillion at the end of January 2008. In other words, the U.S. has added to its national wealth an equivalent to the whole nominal GDP of China (in 2007, $3.25 trillion). let me get one thing straight, im not for republicans. im agianst democrats. i hate them both, but i hate democrats more. uber rich is not always bad. uber rich companies means more money to employ. thats how it works. the richer one man is. the more jobs he makes for others. democrats may help the middle class, but there definition of middle is way off. sure its the middle class. but they only give benifits for the VERY middle. im slightly above middle. but nowhere near rich like they call me.
I would agree as well. And if Republicans acted responsibly financially it would be all good and well. But the last three repub presidents have created absurdly huge deficits that have put us at the mercy of china and the saudis, they have made wars that cost billions (trillions) of dollars but won't pay the fraction of that that it would take to insure America's children. Fine they are all bastards, but atleast dem bastards will give create something we can use. Other than war.
another thing i hate them for is drug issues. (dems and reps) they both spend billions on the "marijuana war", which is a drug way less harmful then alcohol. many of the arrests are cancer patients that can barly walk. they send THEM to prison for using medical marijuana, while marijuana is the #1 cash crop in many of the states. kinda sad how big of an utter failier the marijuana war is, and a poor use of our tax dollars.
I mean you're right, if they stopped the drug war maybe they wouldn't be decimating the black community by sending away boys and young men to prisons that act as colleges that churn out men with bachelors in burgalry, masters in manslaughter and PhDs in felonies.
I can understand people who don't want to spend money to solve black social disparity, but so much money being spent to actuively undermine blacks is just crazy! Its like the best, most expensive lynching ever.
i actually dont smoke. but thanks for you concerns. and "great" name. since eetcock is SO close to eetgeok. shows how mature you are. add me as a friend if u wish to finish this convo privatly.
What can McCain get done? He's never earned anything in his life. He got into the Naval Academy cause of his dad and granddad, and even though he had terrible grades and poor reports his father pulled stings so he could become a navy pilot. He then went on to crash six planes. He abandoned a wife for a millionaire. If you look up the scandals that he was immersed in in the 80s you'll see how cozy he is with the Wall Street banks that have caused the current crisis.
Why do you say sexist! if it was a guy and he said the same thing what would you call it? its all in the competition politics arent for the sensitive. i hope you stop posting nonsense comments you should vote Obama so you can get a better education. he is Democrats best chance and i like his chances.
obama is soooooo arrogant. how dare he admit he chose his words poorly over his "bitter" comment? how dare he admit in many stump speeches, that he's not a perfect person and will not be a perfect president? how dare he on the night of clinching the nomination admit to being humbled by the challenges ahead and be gracious to clinton despite her graceless lack of concession? yeah...he's truly arrogant alright...
Dude, this has been 16 months. The flood of superdelegates came 1 hour before primaries ended on Tuesday. Don't expect anyone to come up with a graceful concession speech within a couple of hours. If she had, it would not have been the one we heard on saturday. Show some respect.
Obama is his usual condescending self. It's very unbecoming. 17 million people think Hillary is more than likable. Was anyone watching when Obama refused to shake her hand or when he gave her the finger? He is not fit to be elected dog catcher.
Hillary's "niceness" is totally fake and political, and Obama is simply calling her out. It's an example of his directness and unwillingness to be fake. I like it.
on the last debate Obama pass on attacking Hillary on Bosnia: but she did her best to spit her poison! this is good for Obama in the long run if she can not get any thing to stick to him: the republican machine won't be able ether!
Clinton machine(unbeatable?) could not bet Obama how could they bet republicans_?
Clinton's baggage: republicans have been writing their play books for 10 years waiting to run against her!
BARAK means(blessed) so he may jest be blessed by GOD to be the one:
y is he sorry...SHE IS WORKING FOR HIM, SHE SHOULD PROVIDE ANSWERS FOR ANYTHING SHE WANTSM, THIS ISNT A PLUTOCRACY, ITS A DEMOCRACY, she works for the guy's rights, this clearly shows the aristrocracy of American politics.
It's pretty clear that Obama was trying to belittle Hillary by saying she is "likable enough". In addition, during the Ohio debate, Obama also said he does not "whine" which hinted Hillary does. Those were two very sexist statements made by Obama.
in your rambling, you present nothing to suggest that those comments were sexist. Belittling a person and hinting that someone whines does not equal sexism.
People keep saying that the Republicans hate Hillary but they don't realize that she has worked on a number of bills with Republican senators and they had been impressed with her. I wish people would go and research the candidates' work instead of focusing on things that don't matter (rhetoric, likability etc). Whatever happened to COMPETENCE as a basis for electing a president? Seriously.
Competence doesn't seem to be a problem for either of the dems. Although "change" is a major focus of Obama's camp, he also has solid credentials and a brilliant mind.
What concerns me is the integrety of Hillary. She's been embroiled in a couple of major scandals, as has her hubby. She also flip-flops on issues. Obama will win because he's capable, w/out a scandalous past. Oh, yeah ... plus he's more likable ;)
I like Hillary cause she has the expertise and experience to deliver positive change. I admire her strength and i am supporting her not only cause she is a woman but because she is the best choice, who so happens to be a woman.
Well I happen to be a woman too, but that won't stop me from voting for Obama. Yes, she seems strong, but she's also insincere, w/scandals in her past and flip-flopping political views.
Not necessarily. These two have very similar policy platforms, the questions lie more in how well they can deliver. Obama will have a much easier time with the congress than Hillary, because she is hated by so many. And don't forget the image of America in the world.
Its a very over exagerrated misconception that so many people hate Hillary. She has worked with many republicans in the senate and did win her seat in the Senate(unlike Obama who did not have to run against anyone)so many republicans respect her. They dont respect Obama so he wont have an easier time in congress. I agree that their policies are similar but there are key differences and you have to look to their past to see if their promises have any substance.
No it's not. Most Republicans truly hate her. AM (conservative) Talk Radio has been speaking out against her for years. And people listen, their ratings are very high.
People like Hannedy et al have had very little to say in the way of negative remarks against Obama. PS: List some of those "key difference" you speak of. Let's talk.
Imo, you're so right. Their resumes, aside from her scandalous, contentious behavior, are practically identical. And the "Ice Queen" (as she was dubbed in highschool - see '60 Minutes' clip), is something she is known as to this day.
obama is so arrogant and all talk. Vote for Hillary, she has the experience needed to bring about the change this country needs. Remember the surplus? Vote Clinton.
What is the big damn deal?! Why do people wind themselves into a tizzy trying to inject monumental meanings into such tiny minutiae? I agree with the comment below about Krazy Krauthammer's article concerning Barack's comment. When can we have a discussion about the holes being chewed into this country by greed and ignorance, and quit drinking the personality cult kool-aid?
There may not be anything wrong with socialism, but that's not what this country is, ever was, or wants to be. If you want socialism then move to a socialist country. Plus, if you admit that socialism is what Hillary is going to bring to this country then why doesn't she say that? Ron Paul is the only candidate who knows how to give this country back to the people and he has the track record to back him up.
Well, actually I am from Poland, so through experience I can say there is much wrong socialism. It is a flawed idea because it doesn't work, i.e. it rewards laziness. Socialism ultimately leads to bankruptcy so ideally you should implement as little of it as possible to get very little bankruptcy, an amount you can handle ;)
Obama is being gracious and Hillary accepts it as such, saying, thank you, I appreciate that. It was a kind moment and Obama even has a slight smile on his face. How could that ever be interpreted badly?
kathinor, that's how I see it, too. The reason I looked for this video to watch is that I read Charles Krauthammer's op/ed column in the paper today, and he claimed that Obama was "smirking" when he replied. Krauthammer really made a big deal of it. I don't see that at all (but what do you expect from Krauthammer?)
yup. its to bad kucinich is not up there! Its amazing to see him against the rest. he makes everyone look bad, except Ron Paul He is my second choice. Both Kucinich and Paul both have good political positions, however i think dennis is more correct when it comes to economics.
why don't people like hillary? damn hardcore conservatives are just ignorant. give me a legit reason please. i mean, bill was certainly a good president. what is your problem with her?
The problem with hilary is not that he is a democrat but what she stands for. When she talks about change she is against real change but rather the way the government is managed. All the candidates cant be trusted except Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. You should ask Hilary and Obama where they stand regarding the SPP and The American Union!!!
but are those really the major pressing issues at this time? i dont think that they are. and as far as the issue of real change vs govt management, seriously, what candidate would do the right thing? NONE OF THEM. in my opinion, elections are like choosing the lesser evil
Are you for the SPP and The American Union. Do you want real change or only chage the way the government is managed. Dennis Kucinich is the real deal. You should watch what he has to say!!
what the fuck is everyones problem w/ her?! am i voting for her, no, i'm voting for obama but what the hell!? i think the fact is A LOT OF ppl cannot stand to see a woman in a position of power so to make themselves feel better they verbally attack her, how smart is that?!
Go back in time and listen to people who have been around her and worked with her. Also the Clintons are so stinking full of themselves. Bill Clinton now there's a GREAT person to believe in ????? You put her in the white house you get him too...PRETTY FREAKIN SCARY STUFF!
Men especially attack her on her looks and age. I have never once mentioned this with the male candidates who are mostly older than dirt. Look at Fred Thompson for God's sake!!
I know right? Sheesh, some men just can't handle a powerful woman and that's very sad. We have been and unfortunately, always will be, judged on looks. It's pitiful and shows lack of character for most of the males in this country and the world.
what a waste of time....women and blacks wont be president in our life time.....its going to be a white male....probably republican....hilary would not be there if it wasn't for bill.....so keep praying retards;)
I will bet you the farm that we will have Obama or Hillary in the White House. It will not a republican. McCain? Too pro war for voters. Romney? Too much of a out of touch jackass. Huckabee? Too Christiany for most voters. Republicans have no strong enough candidate this time to beat the democrats.
Its idiocy voting for Hilary Clinton! Sure she might have charisma and charm, but so does THE DEVIL! Im not saying she's evil or anything but what I am saying is do you want a president who could become an emotional wreck at any moment?
YOU ARE A MORON ADHD when a men tears up he is perceived a being in touch with is sensitive side , when a women tears up she is weak .. get a clue. IDIOT
Oh no no no, you misunderstand what I was trying to say. I was not being hostile towards her because of her being a woman, but rather because she stands for quite literally the opposite of Republican morals. As for the emotional wreck statement,'m sorry. My emotions speak before my mind. The idea of emotional is however what Hilary Clinton and other Liberals Stand for.
If you would like to talk more I would be happy if you would message me to debate
no not you, i agree. im from canada, which is a socialist country. There is nothing wrong with socialism. nothing. i was talking to the idiots that go on about how women cant be leaders of a country because they are succeptable to emotional breakdowns. That annoys me. So does the fact that Obama's chances at the white house are lessened because hes black. that also makes me sick.
I didn't read all of these postings, but I can't believe the racists, sexist and immature remarks I HAVE read. If these posters are our future, I fear for our country.
OK this last guy was going for a laugh...........booo and he/she's 44 lol my ass.
Your totally stupid Obama is a very intelligent man your a hater, so what he's black. If your mother had fuck a black you'd be hated as well by your same type ass wipe!!!!
At least she says it hurts her feelings... I'm willing to bet the males running for office right now wait until they get home. Put on a wig and turn on the Village People. Then cry because they aren't likable.
you have some great stuff here

Arcadio18 3 years ago
Geez calm down haters! Obama said "likable enough" to just make a joke - Hillary was stumbling to answer the question so he stepped in.
Come on, Obama didn't ask the question, and he never brought up "likability" as an issue during the primary campaign

obama is soooooo arrogant. how dare he admit he chose his words poorly over his "bitter" comment? how dare he admit in many stump speeches, that he's not a perfect person and will not be a perfect president? how dare he on the night of clinching the nomination admit to being humbled by the challenges ahead and be gracious to clinton despite her graceless lack of concession? yeah...he's truly arrogant alright...
xxcoltsneckxx 3 years ago
Dude, this has been 16 months. The flood of superdelegates came 1 hour before primaries ended on Tuesday. Don't expect anyone to come up with a graceful concession speech within a couple of hours. If she had, it would not have been the one we heard on saturday. Show some respect.

Obama is his usual condescending self. It's very unbecoming. 17 million people think Hillary is more than likable. Was anyone watching when Obama refused to shake her hand or when he gave her the finger? He is not fit to be elected dog catcher.

It's pretty clear that Obama was trying to belittle Hillary by saying she is "likable enough". In addition, during the Ohio debate, Obama also said he does not "whine" which hinted Hillary does. Those were two very sexist statements made by Obama.
bessiejones 3 years ago 2
in your rambling, you present nothing to suggest that those comments were sexist.

Seriously.
StrictlyRampant 4 years ago
Competence doesn't seem to be a problem for either of the dems. Although "change" is a major focus of Obama's camp, he also has solid credentials and a brilliant mind.
What concerns me is the integrety of Hillary. She's been embroiled in a couple of major scandals, as has her hubby. She also flip-flops on issues. Obama will win because he's capable, w/out a scandalous past. Oh, yeah ... plus he's more likable ;)
CheezInspector 4 years ago
I like Hillary cause she has the expertise and experience to deliver positive change. I admire her strength and i am supporting her not only cause she is a woman but because she is the best choice, who so happens to be a woman.
chrisa083 4 years ago 2
Well I happen to be a woman too, but that won't stop me from voting for Obama. Yes, she seems strong, but she's also insincere, w/scandals in her past and flip-flopping political views.
CheezInspector 4 years ago
If you're voting on likeablility you must be really dumb and ignorant
elaayna 4 years ago
Not necessarily. These two have very similar policy platforms, the questions lie more in how well they can deliver. Obama will have a much easier time with the congress than Hillary, because she is hated by so many. And don't forget the image of America in the world.
imogapils 4 years ago 3
Its a very over exagerrated misconception that so many people hate Hillary. She has worked with many republicans in the senate and did win her seat in the Senate(unlike Obama who did not have to run against anyone)so many republicans respect her. They dont respect Obama so he wont have an easier time in congress. I agree that their policies are similar but there are key differences and you have to look to their past to see if their promises have any substance.
elaayna 4 years ago
No it's not. Most Republicans truly hate her. AM (conservative) Talk Radio has been speaking out against her for years. And people listen, their ratings are very high.
People like Hannedy et al have had very little to say in the way of negative remarks against Obama. PS: List some of those "key difference" you speak of. Let's talk.

RON PAUL LIBERTY! FREEDOM! PEACE! PROSPERITY!
natureboy326 4 years ago
