@mattmccabedotcom I don't have fun..but I'm a chicken at least I own it. I just recently did the Cajon Pass and Mountain Pass In California near the Inland Empire outside of San Bernardino. I'm Good... ;-)
Excellent video, Matt! Nice. What was your recording setup? BTW, great music track, too! Perfect for the occasion. Maybe "ridin' the storm out" from REO Speedwagon for your winter reprise...preferably not on the BMW.
@dsnyders Thanks. Back then I had some wired bullet camera connected to a mini hard drive DVR. I think I'll go back this coming year and get it on HD!
Part of my 'Territory' during working years. The spring melt runoff broken edges are more dramatic when seen up close and personal. Drifting past them leaves a sweating back after the fast tours. Watched while the winch truck pulled up one of the 'Whoopsies'. Left a long trail down through the scrubby trees. A vid of 'That' ride would have been something to see.
Red Mountain Pass scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid - not even old enough to reach the gas and brake pedals in a car. I would probably have a proper panic attack trying to drive it LOL
I've been over Red Mountain Pass many times, but never when I had my 'Wing...too bad. The San Juans rock. I remember my first time going up Red Mtn in 1984 (March). Had a 4x4 and didn't know a thing about mountains and snow. We survived, but when I went back in the spring I was staggered when I saw the drop off to the right. Angels must have been watching me.
Just made this trip this january after a snow storm, Road was ice packed and we were pulling a 3/4 ton truck on a trailer, We actually had to wait for them to shoot slides (avalanches) before we could pass talk about a scary trip wont due it again during the winter!! It is beautiful though!!
One of my favorite roads. Try it in January at midnight, under a full moon for an extra erie effect. Similar thrill to "The Road to Hana" - Maui, HI. Thanks for the ride!
