@HCBailly I typically used Fang, Sazh, and Hope almost exclusively. Those really gave me all the roles I needed. I found Synergists to be incredibly useful in nearly all battles, and Fang gave me access to Saboteur and Sentinel. Hope is an incredible damage dealer and medic. Lightning was cool, but had lower stats than Fang and inferior roles.
The only disadvantage of a Fang-Sazh-Hope party is that you don't get access to the Tri-Disaster paradigm, but that's not a huge loss.
My favorite Final Fantasy Game is always going to be Final Fantasy XII. Although many believe Final Fantasy XIII was the best because Square soft showed us compatibilities of the PS3. The graphic and music are stunning, the gameplay is simple at first and then get's challenging afterwards. I would need to play some more to review this game. Hopefully HC is able to make LP of the game, for now; I'm still playing Legend of Dragoon on PS3.
I switched between relentless assault and combat clinic to kill armour and attack his face, and when he started charging Destrudo I went SYN/MED/MED (forget name :L) and then combat clinic. Then repeated.
@kao123456654 Actually depending on how you build it then hers could be best or worst.
For example lightning has all those atb happy ability accessories and weapons that if she dishes out a ton of damage quickly, it can be more than just hope waiting for his to recharge.
And sazh can take on the commando and ravager role, which could make him a better synergist for really lost battles
as for vanille, I kind of agree with the medic thing but Groovy couldve just had her built up a a saboteur 1st

The reason Vanille tends to be a better medic is because she learns the main healing spells earlier on such a Curesa and Curaja and has a fair amount of HP to take punishment while healing.
Fully upgraded Light does have the second best stats for both but it depends how you play her and with what equipment and such.

@daggerBananer lightning is actually suppose to be a mix of cloud and squall so you arent wrong. there are other mixes (like zell+seifer= snow. i think vanille has some selphie in there lol) but i dont remember all of them.
You should have had a melee user(whatever the class was called...been while) to slow down the bleeding....YOu used magic and your stagger meter would fill wuickly yes...but it would drop just as fast....and even if they get staggered it still drops fast.

HC, I'm not sure if you know this, but once you manually enter a command chain, e.g. 4 x Sparkstrike, the next time you go to enter it, you can press to the right on the analog stick after scrolling to "abilities" and it will automatically do whatever command chain you entered previously. I hope that makes sense. See the arrow next to "abilities"?
Barthandelus is my favorite boss in this game. I strongly recommend that you do an LP for this game. Just to let you know, I have the Platinum Trophy, so I pretty much completed EVERYTHING in this game.
So if you decide to do this LP, let me know. I have the Collector's Edition FFXIII strategy guide and can definitely help you out.

Hmmm I use an Avermedia HD/Analog Internal Capture Card. I play the game on the computer with avermedia center and record with Fraps. Unfortunately with this method you need a pretty fast hard drive for encoding on the fly. I have solid state hard drives so it's no problem. I use Camstudio 7 to render the recordings. It turned out pretty good and can be a good alternative to the Haupauge HD PVR. (I know you already bought it) In case the Haupauge stops functioning this is another method.
The Japanese version of this game was like 75% better than the English!!! Of course if you don't speak Japanese then the English is better but things just made more sense in Japanese.
@GamesOplenty 1) I'm unaware of any other way of doing so, but I've done no research on the game at all.
2) Early on I value Potions more, so I don't have to switch paradigms. Once Curaga and Curaja are available, Potions become obsolete.
3) IIRC, you can't get more shrouds until near the very end of the game when the shop selling them is unlocked. Otherwise, I've heard that you could only farm them really early in the game. I don't know how else to acquire them at that point.
There is an accessory called "Survivalist Catalogue" or something like that, which "increases the chance of receiving shrouds after battle."
I got a Deceptisol from a normal enemy on the Archylte Steppe with that equipped, but I'm not sure if it's the best method for farming. Just thought I'd throw it out there.
@HCBailly You probably already know this, but if you get a low battle rating, you have a higher chance of getting a shroud drop. I've seen your LP pop up as the featured video on my FF13 LP, so you've probably done a bit more research.
@GamesOplenty do you auto cure? or do you pick it yourself? If you pick it yourself it's a little more useful...auto they kinda take there time and heal 1 at a time. But yeah that medic band helps with potions.
@jfachris Well, I usually auto cure, when only one character is in bad status. But if multiple are in bad status, especially including my main character (Lightning), I'll use manual.

During the game, up to this boss, it's possible to get 2 doctors codes, which double the effect of potions (up to 300). But they can't stack (can't use the effects of both for 4X).
And as a medic, the effect of potions is automatically raised a bit anyway, even without the doctors code.
I'm glad to know that I can look forward to someone LP'ing Final Fantasy XIII. I like Final Fantasy XII a lot more, but FF13 was a great game in its own right! I've no idea however whether you liked FFXII or not, but it seems you've been working your way through the Final Fantasy games. I hope that LP'ing FF13 doesn't mean you're totally skipping FF12, because that would be a major disappointment.
In HD, these graphics look ORGASMIC xD I really think you should LP this game as it is one of the few Final Fantasy ive not yet been able to play. It would be awesome to see you do it.

I don't get why many people seems to hate this game. Ok its not one of the best ff games. But personally I think FF13 is better than FF7. Nothing against FF7, I think it's good game and all but I never liked it that much. I just didn't care about characters and didn't like the Material System (Hated how you can make all the characters to have same magic and same skills).I know I'll get haters because of my comment but I don't care. @Xylophagomorpha If you fully master the crystalium with everyone they are basically copies of eachother so it'll be the same as giving the same materias to everyone. It's all a matter of options, you either make them all copies or make them all unique.

@Xylophagomorpha FF13 would be a good game, if it had something more to the gameplay than walking down a linear corridor and if you could interract with the world, do some free roaming and sidequests that would make you involved. Avatar did something right and it was making people love Pandora.
Without these things, it's just run down a road, fight, run some more, cutscene, more running. It's very boring and as much as i like the visual style, FF13 lacks proper writing and game design.
I noticed when you did the "abiltities" you selected it and then selected Sparkstrike multiple times, but if you hold left on the abilities you can just repeat what you did last, hope this helps and I hope no one has said this therefor making this pointless. And I own the 360 version so it might not be in the PS3 version at all.
Damn. Snow had over 7000 CP. You uhh...gonna use them XD. Anyway, watching you play this has actually made me want to buy this game again. I just kind of gave up. Not because it was too difficult, but because it was somewhat boring. Luckily, I got the game with a strategy guide for half the price of the game. I'm very happy.
The upgraded version of the Belladonna Wand is just ludicrous (the Malboro Wand). It's seriously better than any of her Ultimate Weapon configurations. It's amazing how fast your CP accumulates when you're able to one shot Adamantoises.
FF13 is a solid game, the battle system is different, though, Final Fantasy has changed battle systems with every single game, I don't like it very much, but, that's just my taste. The only thing I don't like is the stagger though, I didn't beat the game but the stagger thing seemed to make fights monotonous, where all you do is stagger, and then destroy the enemy when they're stunned. I guess you could say in an RPG all you do is press the fight command and kill stuff but...I'm not feelin it.
HCBailly, would you say final fantasy 13 is worth buying a 360 or ps3 for? also, the video looks great. it buffers fine for me, and it looks pretty much perfect.
On a side note one of my basic stratagies for ff13 was going with tri disaster to open like you did ( until chapter 11 when the monsters are harder to stagger) but once I staggered them I would switch to com com rav. Just becaue coms do much more damage to staggered enimeies plus they build the damage multiplier faster ( cant remember what its called lol )
That is what I liked about ff13 even though it is pretty linear there can be quite a bit of strategy involved in the battles

Ahh Final Fantasy XIII, you have beaten Final Fantasy VIII as the most polarizing Final Fantasy game ever made. Personally, I've never played it, but it looks really good to me. I really like the look of the battles and such. Personally, I feel that when and if they announce XV, they will most likely go back to classic active time batte, which I personally am not a big fan of, but since they have openly admitted that people really don't like this one, they may cave and try to go oldschool.
@PsychoKrazyTime After all, from what I've seen at E3 this year, more developers seem to be going the oldschool route with their games. It may even become a trend within game development for a while. Will Final Fantasy follow? I suppose we will have to wait a while to find out. Whether Square Enix decides to go old school or something completely new, I don't really mind either way, as long as it's not too rigid or too different.
Seeing HCBailly play (and of course utterly destroy) a boss battle in a contemporary RPG..is a strange experience. This is the first I've seen of FF XIII, period, and this fight felt a lot more like a World of Warcraft raid boss than a Final Fantasy boss..the pace of the battle, the intricate strategies, the damage figures flying left and right, the extremely quick decisions made by the player..
As a tech demo, though, it looks and sounds awesome!
You can skip the FMVs on 12 also. That is one of the nicest features in the series. I wish that feature was in 10, specifically for a certain jovial riot scene "if you know what I'm talking about." lol
Ah, game over from Leader dying. Just like Bahamut Lagoon, Tactics, and some battles in FF XII: RW.
I must say I'm not a huge fan of this boss music.
Doesn't appear we have anything big here that hasn't been seen before. The AI stuff is in the Mana games (particularly SD3) and FF XII (Gambits). And the class change during battle was done back in FFX-2.
Eventually though I will give this game a try since I've beaten every other FF game that I'll ever play except some of the Chronicle games.
Will you do Final Fantasy X, XI, XII, and XIV?(when it comes out)
I especially want to see how would you do XI and XIV.(Yet again, when it comes out) Would you bring your friends along, would you do expansion packs and add-ons? Would you do other Let's Plays spawn from your appearance of your friends i.e. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, World of War craft, The Lord of the Rings: War of the North?(Once more, when it comes out)

Maybe it was just me, but your voice sounded a bit loud during the batlle... but I guess it might be because of the loudness of the actions, in battle. Maybe you will want to minimize the talking during Big Boss battles ?
So, I guess this will probably make another great future Let's Play, in the grand line of the Final Fantasy ;)
@W1ndF4lc0n I'll allow negative comments here. You are correct though. During the actual LP, I would ask that people who simply don't like the game would keep their thoughts to themselves.
@HCBailly If i may suggest have 1 commando and 2 ravengers to start. because the commandos powerchain move (which is automatic) slows down the chaining gauge, so your Ravengers can whail on the enemy. its much more effective then 3 ravengers
Just as a by the way, I'm sure someone has pointed it out and/or you have figured it out already, but if you want to input the same command BUT NOT use auto-chain, you can scroll over the "Abilities" Command and hold to the Right. It will say "Repeat", so you don't have to select all the same commands again. Of course you wouldn't want to do that when selecting a different target, but it's faster when you have one large target to take out. l3
Of course, this boss is my least favorite boss.

I love this game, i'm currently during another playthrough myself. Just a few tips for your possible future LP:
Lightning - Best Ravager
Hope - Best Medic
Vanille - Best Saboteur
Fang - The FREAKING BEST Commando
Snow - Best Sentinel
Sazh - Synergist
So just for when/if you do that, you will have an idea of what you should build them around.
(Sorry, not trying to sound like a FFXII know it all here. >.<)

Hope is the best Synergist due to him being able to learn Most of Sazh's main buffs later on.
And Lightning has the second strongest stats for both Magic and Strength.

(the third question is gonna be really weird, to try and avoid spoilers)
1- Is there any way to make your potions more effective than with a doctors code? like to make it heal 600 or something?
2- Do you value potions more than the cure spell? the cure spell is almost useless for me.
3- I'm at... the other major place in the game where you can roam. I was wondering where I could get shrouds? I'm all out.

@GamesOplenty do you auto cure? or do you pick it yourself? If you pick it yourself it's a little more useful...auto they kinda take there time and heal 1 at a time. But yeah that medic band helps with potions.

@jfachris Well, I usually auto cure, when only one character is in bad status. But if multiple are in bad status, especially including my main character (Lightning), I'll use manual.

@jfachris Well, This is the way that I understand it. (without the medic band)
During the game, up to this boss, it's possible to get 2 doctors codes, which double the effect of potions (up to 300). But they can't stack (can't use the effects of both for 4X).
And as a medic, the effect of potions is automatically raised a bit anyway, even without the doctors code.
But I don't know what the medic band is.

I'm glad to know that I can look forward to someone LP'ing Final Fantasy XIII. I like Final Fantasy XII a lot more, but FF13 was a great game in its own right! I've no idea however whether you liked FFXII or not, but it seems you've been working your way through the Final Fantasy games. I hope that LP'ing FF13 doesn't mean you're totally skipping FF12, because that would be a major disappointment.

I don't get why many people seems to hate this game. Ok its not one of the best ff games. But personally I think FF13 is better than FF7. Nothing against FF7, I think it's good game and all but I never liked it that much. I just didn't care about characters and didn't like the Material System (Hated how you can make all the characters to have same magic and same skills).I know I'll get haters because of my comment but I don't care. It's my opinion, live with it. Anyway great Video Quality :D

@Xylophagomorpha If you fully master the crystalium with everyone they are basically copies of eachother so it'll be the same as giving the same materias to everyone. It's all a matter of options, you either make them all copies or make them all unique.

@Xylophagomorpha FF13 would be a good game, if it had something more to the gameplay than walking down a linear corridor and if you could interract with the world, do some free roaming and sidequests that would make you involved. Avatar did something right and it was making people love Pandora.
Without these things, it's just run down a road, fight, run some more, cutscene, more running. It's very boring and as much as i like the visual style, FF13 lacks proper writing and game design.

I noticed when you did the "abiltities" you selected it and then selected Sparkstrike multiple times, but if you hold left on the abilities you can just repeat what you did last, hope this helps and I hope no one has said this therefor making this pointless. And I own the 360 version so it might not be in the PS3 version at all.

Damn. Snow had over 7000 CP. You uhh...gonna use them XD. Anyway, watching you play this has actually made me want to buy this game again. I just kind of gave up. Not because it was too difficult, but because it was somewhat boring. Luckily, I got the game with a strategy guide for half the price of the game. I'm very happy.

The upgraded version of the Belladonna Wand is just ludicrous (the Malboro Wand). It's seriously better than any of her Ultimate Weapon configurations. It's amazing how fast your CP accumulates when you're able to one shot Adamantoises.

You can hold left on abilities to repeat the chain you just did. Its a lot quicker than say selecting 4 aquastrikes each time.

FF13 is a solid game, the battle system is different, though, Final Fantasy has changed battle systems with every single game, I don't like it very much, but, that's just my taste. The only thing I don't like is the stagger though, I didn't beat the game but the stagger thing seemed to make fights monotonous, where all you do is stagger, and then destroy the enemy when they're stunned. I guess you could say in an RPG all you do is press the fight command and kill stuff but...I'm not feelin it.

That's the only boss that got me stuck, I had to go looking for guides wondering why he keeps one-hit KO me.
As for the video quality, I don't think the color is quite right, there is a whitish tint (I don't know the professional term lol)

On a side note one of my basic stratagies for ff13 was going with tri disaster to open like you did ( until chapter 11 when the monsters are harder to stagger) but once I staggered them I would switch to com com rav. Just becaue coms do much more damage to staggered enimeies plus they build the damage multiplier faster ( cant remember what its called lol )
That is what I liked about ff13 even though it is pretty linear there can be quite a bit of strategy involved in the battles

Ahh Final Fantasy XIII, you have beaten Final Fantasy VIII as the most polarizing Final Fantasy game ever made. Personally, I've never played it, but it looks really good to me. I really like the look of the battles and such. Personally, I feel that when and if they announce XV, they will most likely go back to classic active time batte, which I personally am not a big fan of, but since they have openly admitted that people really don't like this one, they may cave and try to go oldschool.

@PsychoKrazyTime After all, from what I've seen at E3 this year, more developers seem to be going the oldschool route with their games. It may even become a trend within game development for a while. Will Final Fantasy follow? I suppose we will have to wait a while to find out. Whether Square Enix decides to go old school or something completely new, I don't really mind either way, as long as it's not too rigid or too different.

Seeing HCBailly play (and of course utterly destroy) a boss battle in a contemporary RPG..is a strange experience. This is the first I've seen of FF XIII, period, and this fight felt a lot more like a World of Warcraft raid boss than a Final Fantasy boss..the pace of the battle, the intricate strategies, the damage figures flying left and right, the extremely quick decisions made by the player..
As a tech demo, though, it looks and sounds awesome!

Ah, game over from Leader dying. Just like Bahamut Lagoon, Tactics, and some battles in FF XII: RW.
I must say I'm not a huge fan of this boss music.
Doesn't appear we have anything big here that hasn't been seen before. The AI stuff is in the Mana games (particularly SD3) and FF XII (Gambits). And the class change during battle was done back in FFX-2.
Eventually though I will give this game a try since I've beaten every other FF game that I'll ever play except some of the Chronicle games.

Maybe it was just me, but your voice sounded a bit loud during the batlle... but I guess it might be because of the loudness of the actions, in battle. Maybe you will want to minimize the talking during Big Boss battles ?
So, I guess this will probably make another great future Let's Play, in the grand line of the Final Fantasy ;)

@HCBailly If i may suggest have 1 commando and 2 ravengers to start. because the commandos powerchain move (which is automatic) slows down the chaining gauge, so your Ravengers can whail on the enemy. its much more effective then 3 ravengers

Just as a by the way, I'm sure someone has pointed it out and/or you have figured it out already, but if you want to input the same command BUT NOT use auto-chain, you can scroll over the "Abilities" Command and hold to the Right. It will say "Repeat", so you don't have to select all the same commands again. Of course you wouldn't want to do that when selecting a different target, but it's faster when you have one large target to take out. l3
