  • can you use any VST or sound kits from logic 9 or pro tools or any DAW in general with the guitar? i love hip hop and rock so you can imagine how helpful this would be since I'm not THAT good on keyboard as i am guitar....thanks

  • @landerssd Yep, anything that'll take midi input.

  • @landerssd Yeah. I just got one. It worked immediately (no config or software installation required) with all my RTAS instruments in Pro Tools (Xpand, Structure, Superior Drummer, Kontact, Reaktor, etc). I used it over the USB cable on a year old Macbook Pro. Couldn't detect any latency, especially with the hardware buffer set low. I'm sure it works equally well over the MIDI cable.

  • that's really cool! I just wanted to see if it works. And It does. You are the man!

  • i you want it to "trigger" well, use an external usb of firewire soundcard.....

  • dang i when to click to see this on fl this came up lol must be nice to have mac lol

  • Awesome and informative. Thanks for the demo.

  • garbage...

  • @SOLRACZAID17 classy comment. thanks.

  • How did you get yours to trigger so well? I'm on my 3rd one and all 3 have almost zero accuracy. Exhausted all the possibilities with the control panel - nothing works like I see it on YouTube.

  • @solidbrownrecords I had to tailor my playing to it. Its not a guitar, it just sort of looks like one. I'm not playing anything in the video very fast, if you notice.

  • @brettwiththedobro I know its not a guitar - duh... What part of my message did you absorb..?

  • @solidbrownrecords In my experience over the last year and half with it, most problems i've seen seem down to how people are approaching it. I'm not saying that's true in your case, but that's been my experience. For instance, a soft pick attack doesn't work well (anything below around 40 velocity doesn't trigger). I'm using finger picks in the video if that makes a difference. I never found any appreciable difference with the control panel software.

  • Very cool man! Abelton has been doing a lot for me in terms of guitar/midi related projects. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for your demonstration man, I have some questions. How many notes can you play at once? and how does it go with stuff like bass note plus simultanious melody? thanks dude

  • @kezzla works like a regular guitar...one note on each string can be played simultaneously. As demonstrated in the video, the default sends each string out as its own midi channel, so you can separate as you wish. If you're clever enough, you can send each string to a different instrument as an example. very flexible.

  • Great demo! im going to get this cuz of you! thanks bro! can you do palm mutes and /or mute the E string when playing chords on that start on the A string? im going to get it eather way, just wanted to know. thanks bro!

  • @BrandonCarterTV I just use it as a midi keyboard,so i'm not sure about palm mutes. each string can be sent out on its own midi channel, so it wouldn't be hard to turn one string off.

  • hey man, I have a question, I hope you can answer it... Are the strings sensitive to velocity? I mean, if you play harder, does it sound louder? As I see in the video, the velocity is the same whether you play the guitar softer or harder...

    Thanks

  • @dnicotra yes, they are velocity sensitive though their range isn't that wide. if you hit the string under 40(of the standard 120 velocity range) nothing's likely to happen.

  • hey buddy hows it going

couple of questions for you! you said buttons on the fretboard are the push down like a button on the yamaha midi keys or does it feel like a string?

can I have it midi out and usb midi out for when im out and about with the laptop?

can you use a capo or is there a transpose key?

    Thanks very much

  • @gmixstudios the fretboard is rubber buttons ala Yamaha.

It has both Midi Out and Midi Out via USB

No capoing, but you can choose from a bunch of different tunings or program your own

  • awesome man...think gonna pick this one

  • Hello, and thanks for demonstrating the YRG ! I have a question : can you do bends with your left hand, or do you have to use the whammy bar ?

  • @KayinOne The buttons on the fretboard don't bend, so yes, whammy bar.

  • can those strings break ? and if they do , is there any replacement

  • @ZKDanika no its like the new rockband 3 guitar where the strings are only where you pluck

  • @thereaper4u yeah , I got that , but what if those get screwed up ?

  • @ZKDanika That's a really good question. What if a vengeful roommate/girlfriend took a pair of wirecutters to them?

  • I have a good question I've never seen here on youtube! Can you play midi drums using You Guitar using some preset samples from a program like EZ drummer or Superior Drummer?????

  • @ProgTechDethcore since it sends out midi note date...the short answer is sure, you can play drums with it. Would it be good at programming drums with...probably not so much.

  • this is a great cross over instrument for a guitarist that doesnt know how to play keys, so i could actually see its use. great demo!

  • @Mattguitarman1234 same here. cheers

  • mmm, i can see now, it has no strings in the fretboard... thx

  • How much responsiveness is it to vibrato ?? i can´t see you doing it...

  • @jeandove It has as much vibrato as playing a keyboard, which it essentially is.

  • How much responsiveness is it to vibrato ?? i can´t see you doing it...

  • Hello. How can you make the guitar sounds like that? I know is by midi but my midi sound sounds poorly, do you use any special programa ou sound card? Thanks.

  • @RuiCarinhoso In the video, i'm using Reason, but it work with anything.

  • thats wild

  • How is the latency? Does it gives a fast playback? Same as my midi keyboard?

I'm sure it will work on fl studio right?

  • @vincentvinc1 same as a midi keyboard, yes.

  • I haven't used Guitar Pro but if it accepts midi, i don't see why it wouldn't work. multiple notes/chords are fine...in the video, each string is sent out onto a different midi channel.

  • have you tried capturing notes into guitar pro? If so, does it work well capturing multiple notes at the same time? my main reason for wanting to buy the YRG is for tabbing my guitar arrangements. thanx in advance. nice video btw.

  • do you have to have MAC computer or OP system to play it ?

  • @mkoujan mac.

  • @brettwiththedobro thanks

  • is there any noticable latency?

  • also, do you ever encounter missed notes or erroneous tracking?

  • @Alanamra not really, but i'm not really shredding on it.

Re:latency. no more so then any other midi controller or keyboard.

  • Thanks for this video. Can you use the alternate tuning functions with external sounds or to trigger soft synths from a program like Ableton or Logic?

  • @sonicliberation

Yes, certainly. I myself use Open G and Open D often in Ableton.

  • All Midi Guitar Pros,

I bought one of these controllers from the you rock web site.Thinking it would suffice my need for a guitar shaped midi controller to control softsynths. While it does,it has NO sustain input on the guitar..So if you need to sustain chords via a sustain pedal, you're out of luck, ain't gonna happen.Tried to return it for a refund, but the you rock or (you suck) people refuse to process a refund. If your needs require a sustain pedal,do not buy this controller.you'll be sorry

  • @cast390 or just set the ADSR properly? :)

  • @cast390 - you want a sustain pedal for a guitar? how about a kick drum pedal while you're at it ... really !

  • Comment removed

  • @cast390 not on the guitar itself. if you're using a sample library though and it has a sustain CC message, you could rig it to the modulation wheel (toggle switch on guitar) or use any midi foot controller.

  • @brettwiththedobro THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU IF YOU DON'T MIND. I'M USING IT WITH GARAGEBAND AT THE MOMENT AND I WOULD LIKE TO USE THE TOGGLE SWITCH FOR SUSTAIN AS YOU SAY. ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO DO SO? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

  • @chincheto Toggle is hard-wired to the midi CC of the mod wheel ( i think its midi CC #1). so either whatever you're trying to control is on the CC already, or you have to midi learn it. I'm not really familier with how Garageband works, so i can't really help with that.

  • @brettwiththedobro THANKS FOR THE TIP

  • Comment removed

  • @cast390 The strings are. the frets are not.

  • Totally awesome.

  • man... this looks amazing, like exactly what I'm looking for. would you say you are happy with it?

  • At about 2:57 you are playing a kind of church organ. Between strums you seem to be touching something on the guitar to kill the last chord. Is that right? Why do you do this? Do you have trouble with chords not stopping and running into each other?

  • @IAMBOG I'm playing with the joystick which controls the mod wheel. I don't have many problems with the unit. I turn everything off (open, tap, slide, etc.) and it works fine

  • Any notes not played or any flase triggers going on when playing VSTi?

  • @IAMBOG not really. as you can see in the video, the picking is well above the midi threshold. I'm using fingerpicks in this video though. with fingers, its much harder.

  • Oh yeah its a real piece of crap and a waste of time and money...when they go bankrupt they will be at the the 99 cent store for 89 cents

NO BENDING NO VIBRATO OPEN STRINGS ARE A JOKE TRACKING SUCKS

SLIDING IS BAD and it does not really sound anything loke a real guitar

  • I think that it entirely depends on what style of music you are wanting to play. For example, rock and metal i think this guitar is totally pointless because you might aswell just buy a real one, however for drum and bass electronica type stuff i believe that this is here the genius is. And i think the concept of making this guitar a rock band controller aswell is stupid and childish, but could turn out being a very powerful midi controller.

  • @ brettwiththedobro

can you elaborate more on how its mot perfect...... ghost notes? tracking issues? feel? off to the KVR forum

  • I am sure you heard already, but there has been found an solution to the string problem.

Look at the kvarudio yourock forum for

    More Info

  • It definitely takes some getting used to. Loosening string tension is a must. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it does a decent job for the money.

  • Cool stuff! Overall, what do you think of the YRG as a MIDI controller? You seem to do pretty good with it, but is it difficult to play in terms of picking?

  • @polaris20

I thought we covered all this at kvr. To reiterate my points.

Yes a solid midi guitar device any bugdet guitarists looking t get into midi should buy it.

  • @Frets200 yeah, that was before I realized it was you! I'm just trying to gather a consensus, since there are folks really pissed, others digging it. Props to @MRKiammi for mentioning the fix for string sensitivity info.
