  • This song was one that I played a lot in the months following my divorce. It helped get all the emotions to the surface.

  • One of the most underrecognized, underpromoted country artists of all time.

  • @mikeyh01 YES! I completely agree!!!! My family absolutely loves him! All of his songs are incredible. Small Town Saturday Night anyone?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • I love this song and was surprised to hear it at a Celtic Thunder concert in the fall. Neil Byrne did it justice. Both versions are wonderful.

  • Must have listened to this song over 100 times following a major heartbreak. She's out there somewhere - that's all I know.

  • 10 years ago this thursday my fiance' changed her mind. I've never gotten over her, and like "jillyhawk", this song "busts my soul wide open". Sometimes I wish I'd never heard it... On the other hand, without songs like this, there would be no way to express what we feel... Thank you Mick, thank you Hal.

  • good shit!!!!

  • There are no words to describe what this song means to me, but I'll try. Having recently split from the love of my life, I couldn't sleep, and listened to Art Bell all night. They, at that time would play this as filler. Took me a year to find out who did it, but I got it and it was the paramount song I put on a CD for her, trying to express my love. A beauty Hal

  • Some people think this guy is a fast runner, but "I'll Catch em!"

  • Oh my God! Haven't heard this in a hundred years! I was young when I last heard this song- a while ago! Thanks for posting.

  • Years ago I was flipping through the TV channels and had to stop when I heard Hal Ketchum's voice on an episode of Austin City Limits. I had no idea who he was, but needless to say I stayed put and watched the rest of the show. I've loved this song ever since. He puts so much emotion into his music you can feel his sadness and yearning. I met him 6 or 7 years ago at a casino performance. He seems like a really nice, down-to-earth kind of guy. I wish they'd play more of his music on the radio.

  • great song!!

  • I love this song, one of the best I have ever heard, just so much feeling into it! We all been there too....just Hal's says it the 'Best' .............here!

  • I heard this song for the 1st time 3 yrs ago on Coast2coast bumper @3am and I told my wife this song is a reflection of our beginnings, we're getting it. She agreed.

Last Christmas at a young age, my wife (23yrs) passed w/the pinkRibbon cancer.

EveryTime I play this, it drops me into tears. :(

  • @twoZJs I lost my wife at an early age almost 20 years ago. This song was popular shortly after. It brought tears to my eyes then and after re-discovering it, it still does. Hang in there, things will get better, but never forget her.

  • I wish I could "like" this about a zillion times! LOVE this song so much!

  • THIS IS FOR YOU JULIA V.............D

  • One of his best! Love to listen to him.

  • this makes me wish I could still 2 step

  • I have to admit that I am NOT a country music fan at all....but THIS has got to be the best song I've ever heard in the genre. In fact, I'm begging my rock cover band to learn this one! It gives me chills. Maybe cuz it's in the minor key?? I dunno...I love it!

  • My fave Hal Ketchum track, just brilliant, never tire of this one. Thanks.

  • I like this. Just learned it's in the latest Celtic Thunder show and sung by Neil Byrnes. Anxious to hear it.

  • Super song by a super artist!

  • Jeff, please come back, before I'm passed the point of rescue! I love you.

  • I agree with johnnyboync1, he has kinda that Chris Izaak sound ... especially with this song... "Small Town Saturday Night" is definetly more country sounding...hope you come to Saskatoon sometime Hal... would love to see you...

  • One hell of a song!!! absolutely brilliant

  • the best country song ever

he kinda reminds me of chris izaak.

  • his voice is soo good ! love this song

  • This song saved my life, and taught me to keep on loving, lose~ or win.

  • One of the best songs to do the two step

  • I have this dream many times.....I always wake up sad.......I'm afraid I am past the point of rescue........

  • well that does it .this song will be stuck in my head for a day or two.lolol

  • LOVE the Celtic-Texas hybrid and of course the great HK's vocals.

  • What more can be said. . I love this song!!

  • An Irish dude may have written the lyrics and composed the song, but, the way Hal sings it is totally his,not to mention his voice.

  • @crowleysridgegirl An Irish woman. Mary Black wrote this. She does a lot of nice stuff.

  • @PsilliPig No she didn't. She might have sung it, but it was written by Mick Hanly.

  • Oh,man, did I ever love this song by Hal.The urgency, the LYRICS-geese.Terrific."Is no word from you at all the best that you can do? Never meant to push or shove you-do you know how much I love you? No,you don't--but I do."

  • @crowleysridgegirl

To the best of my knowledge, the lyrics were written by an Irish singer songwriter, Mick Hanley. I'm open to correction on that though.

  • @Doniedaff Whoever wrote them,did a super job.

  • Hal Ketchum does a great version of this song - but it's not a patch on the composer's recording - Irishman Mick Hanly - it seems Hal Ketchum likes Micks' work and has recorded many of his songs - he does a great job - but Mick does them way better - Eoin McPhaidin

  • do you know how much I love you? No, you don't. But I do.

  • @jillyhawk Dreams bring you to your life in a parallel universe where things turn out slightly different than they do in this universe.Often I realize I am dreaming and when I am waking I find myself floating through space from one universe to the other.

AND NO!! I DONT DO DRUGS.

  • He has multiple sclerosis... but he was still actively performing at least as late as 2008

  • with cuntry music being what it is these days (pure junk) its a wonder anyone remembers songs like this they never get any airtime at all. its a shame a whole generation is gonna think bands like rascall flatts are cuntry. its all just pop music anymore not even any good free radio stations in my area.

  • @johntnjesst

I could not have said it better.

  • i remember listening when i was little! ahahaha crazy!

  • OMG, I had totally forgotten about this song. I was working as a short order cook in a 24 hour diner when this came out. Remembered they kep playing it over and over again, and at the time I couldn't stand country music. LOL.

  • One of the greatest broken heart songs in history. Down a few and crank it up, you'll remember somebody who broke your heart.

  • Hal...If you're reading this where have you gone? You made really good music and I miss it. The radio hasn't played your stuff in ages. That's a crying shame...

  • @doyle921 Yea-- and that's why radio is going down the drain. Seems like the stations play music for the sole purpose of selling what's new and what's hot . . .whatever happened to playing music because it's GOOD?

  • Love Hal Ketchum and this is my favorite song of his.

  • @hibbitysnibbity Ditto!

  • Always liked Hal and still appreciate great lyrics and vocals!!! So glad someone posted it

  • Wow !! First comment !! I am surprised.

Written by Mick Hanly from Ireland.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Check out Mary Black's version on her album, No Frontiers.
