After watching this video last night I went to Lowes to pick up the material that was suggested.....and I swear on my honor that as I was leaving the flooring department 2 Lowes associates and customer was watching this very video to insure they was leading the customer right on how to install a runner on his stairs.......Good job man!
You are right about comments. You did take the time to make a vid. Hey you got the job done. Good on you. You saved $100-$250. As a pro I start from the bottom. You measure equal distances on each side for each step from the wall or posts. You do not need those wooden tach srtips for a RUNNER. but its ok. If you can you use thinner pad as to keep the gap on the sides minmal,Visually. I use an electric staple gun , but any staple gun( longer staples) or nail will do..& I just may make some vids.
I am trying to do this same project at home. I noticed the pneumatic nail/staple gun you used in the video was not featured in the "tools needed" section. All I have is an Arrow T50 staple gun with 5/16" staples. Do I need a "power" nail or staple gun if I am doing Hollywood style?
@wtfman8787 i don't know. I doubt the arrow stapler will work. Also instead of starting from the top(as i did) start from the bottom. I started from the top b/c I wanted the piping along the edges to butt up against the stairs perfectly at the top step.
Very helpful video. Your method follows exactly what the flooring contractor told me he'd do if I hired him. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video; you helped me save several hundred dollars!
@mabraham1 i have some great advice for you, say you have 12 steps, a easy way to figure the total length
to do those 12 steps is easy, just take the number of steps you have and divide that number in half, then once you do that add those two numbers together, so 12 steps would take 18 linear feet to do, ok say you only want to do six steps, half of six is three six plus three is 9 linear feet to do six steps etc..., also start from the bottom and work your way up and rent a knee kicker.
@mabraham1 Measure the Rise & Tread (vertical/horizontal) of the stair. Multiply that number by the ammount of stairs. Leave yourself several extra feet. Add quarter round molding where the floor meets the stair. Tuck the carpet behind the molding for a clean look.
great video, among the best DIY resource for installing a runner on stairs that I found. The nails don't show, even the ones on the rise, or run. Had to sort of dig the stapler into the carpet, and sometimes hammer them down - but this worked well. Thanks for the great resource! @sinner24, better change your buisness model. Doesn't make sense to be proprietary over public knowledge - sorry!
@oshilig I did this as a novice and to share my experience with others curious to do it themselves. I am sure there a better ways.. Thanks for the compliment
@lorney010 I am pretty sure you did not read the header. Post a video smart ass. Any jerk off can post a comment. Take the time as I did, or do you not know what your talking BOUT?.
you've got the prep for the carpet right but the actual installation is done wrong and never use a nail gun to secure the carpet....imagine if there was no bullnose on the steps...the nails would totaly show...also the nailgun would be useless on marble or stone steps
@Paparexi i know it works for you but that doesnt mean its right and no i wont be posting a video showing the skills i've learned over the years for free...i charge, sorry if i offended you
Thanks so much!!!! Going to be installing my rubber today!!!

@solobackpacking I am spearheading a national movement against "capping the ends" The words"Capping & Ends" are never uttered in my house.

You should claim to that contractor, who told you that way,
Sorry, but it's the most stupidly installation
(1) wrong, stapler gun
(2) wrong, top to bottom
(3) wrong, use of kicker
