Can a person use non-torque to yield bolts?

Like say, gr 8 bolts from a fastener store, I mean as long as they have a 210 000 psi strength.

Or do the stock bolts have special elastic memory properties?

It's you who are the jerk who doesn't know anything. I've been working with engines my whole life and i actually have a college degree in mechanics. It's common sense in engine building and rebuilding that you always put in new bolts when mounting back the head, as well as a new head gasket. Go ask at any workshop and they will tell you the exact same thing.
