I have been hearing about Nat from Adam Gussow of course, but just now got around to listening to him. WOW! What a genius. And not only that, the players from that era and before seemed to be having a great deal of fun, as though it were as natural as life itself, which, of course, it was and hopefully always will be. Thank you so much for bringing this wonderful musician to our attention. I started listening to blues harp back in 1969 (Sonny Terry, etc.)
Thanks for posting. More people should know about Nat. He did record another record on the Spivey label; it's called "Nat Riddles: the Art of Nat Riddles." And Adam has some live stuff of Nat and Me in the Street in NYC, recorded in '85 available as a download on his Modern Blues Harmonica site. It pains me to think that Nat is not around to see how much people love his music.
Thanks for replying, mr. Hilbert. It is really a great honour -- you responding to one of my uploads. I agree that Nat's music should be spread, because it's too good to be forgotten.
I know about Nat's solo album, and I'm still looking for this record "The Art(istry) of Nat Riddles", but untill now I couldn't find it anywhere. Sadly enough...
That album is no doubt out of print. Too bad, because the engineers did a great job on it, and Len Kunstadt asked Nat to play unamplified harmonica, which was a great idea. I have it on my HD and would email you the files, but they're too big.
Yes, he had a great and distinctive voice. But as far as I know there are not many recordings with Nat's vocals. On his albums with Larry Johnson, it's mostly Johnson singing.
I love his harp playing - since I first listened to him in "I believe" I desperately tried to get this album somewhere but can't find it. Thank you so much for having rescued this wonderful songs from being forgotten. If you got more of this, do me a favour and upload it as well. Forever bluuuuuuuue.
Sadly enough his albums are very rare. I also think that this remarkable harp player should be better known, so I'm just doing my best to spread his music. I'm glad you guys seem to love it!
Beautiful relaxed harp playing, vocals and guitar great too!
