@InsanePickle007 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Yes he did use overly wrong. But no, Vikings did not come from Asia, they came from Scandinavia. They did not invent the Katana, that was the Japanese. The Vikings also did not invent the art of using the mind as a weapon. That is also an eastern philosophy. Both were used by the Samurai in Japan's fuedal era.
@sephiroth22122 The point of showing the point after stabbing this chair was to assure the viewer that he did NOT, in fact, ruin a sword. To be completely honest, it used to be the only way you knew you had a good sword was to beat the fuck out of it and then make another the same way if it held up. Now though, this kind of test is just idiotic, because the advances in science and skill behind making these ensures you have a good product to begin with. So I kinda agree with you.
@cmcgee99 You used "obeseley" wrong. That is obviously a viking. All vikings came from Asia and they invented the katana and the art of using the mind as a weapon. Read a history book.
@rud100le Only if well placed and along the right path, but it probably would not get all the way through the spine 90% of the time. For the most part "well placed" avoids most of the armor". If you where just asking "could a katana kill/maim a fully armored samurai" then yes, quite easily. In fact any medieval sword could. A bastard sword could actually do it MORE easily due to the angle of the swing's pressure but diff is minimal on that sale. Plate armor though....
@rud100le To simplifying the minor diff between the knight's bastard sword and the samurai katana mechanically (the cut with near equal performance in the right hands) the bastard sword is better against armor since it cuts in a straight "hack" style, all the force going towards the point of impact. Katana is better on armored since it is a "slash" applying the same force continual along the surface of the impact. The difference is only important vs the thicker armors though.
@rud100le Uh..... No. If any armor was that ineffective there wouldn't be any point in wearing it. You wear armor because it works, not because it looks cool. Believing a Katana can cut anything is just as foolish as believing Excaliber was stabbed to the hilt into solid rock. Makes good stories but not reality.

I'm gonna have to agree with TheBloodyBlackJackle. Also the katanas tip was engineered to follow a slice with a stab. When a samurai brought his blade down, if it did not kill his enemy right away, he could directly follow it with a swift stab because of the way the tip is curved. It was also to distance himself so he did have enough room to stab. The tip would follow through with the cut, unlike a broadsword, who's straight tip would force itself out before completing the cut. The samurai coul
@TheBloodyBlackJackal Yes an odd angle can snag into an object but of course you dont know what im talking about I am talking about how damaged the Kantana can get if you stab Steel or thick plates of Armor with it having one edge the top of the blade is what to worry about the top can chip which can cause it to break after a long period of time and not to mentioned it can get daul.
@warzone461 "damaged the Kantana can get if you stab Steel or thick plates of Armor with it having one edge the top of the blade is what to worry about the top can chip which can cause it to break after a long period of time and not to mentioned it can get daul." It has nothing to do with being single edge or two... It doesn't get dull very easily because its HARD metal. Your not making any sense. Of course it can ship if you try to stab through plate armor; and if you stab plate armor with a
@warzone461 The katana's tip makes it no worse of a stabbing weapon than a longsword. Having a single edge doesn't effect its stabbing one bit. It doesn't make it weaker, and it doesn't make it more fragile. Your like making stuff up now...
@TheBloodyJackal In the time this sword was made the soldiers wore thin pieces of metal, yes it does depend on how sturdy the sword is but I am not talking about a the sturdieness of it im talking about the original kantana and the way its crafted matters alot the sword can be sturdy but if the tip is not made for it it cant stab perfectly I am not talking about a double edged blade like the longsword i am talking about the way its made and the Kantana edge is made for slicing more than stabing.
@warzone461 "but if the tip is not made for it it cant stab perfectly I am not talking about a double edged blade like the longsword i am talking about the way its made and the Kantana edge is made for slicing more than stabing." the tip is made for both...
@TheBloodyBlackJackal Even with tools steel since its so fragile stabing that chair could break it like glass but it can go through it.
If you did not know the Katana is MADE for slicing the tip of the sword if you carefully examine it you can tell the way they edged it may seem like its made for stabing (which it partially is) it is mostly fitted for slicing you would not see that on a sword made to stab stab its opponet the blade would have two edges.
@warzone461 The katana by the very method of its crafting, is one of the sturdiest swords possible. Therefore the amount of flexing that happens in a stab is limited; so it transfers the force directly into the target. As for what has a sharper edge, between the longsword and the katana; it entirely depends on how the blacksmith made it. A single edge weapon could easily be sharper then a double edge weapon, for example; take a standard 60/60/60 degree triangle, and poke yourself with it.
@TheBloodyBlackJackal But what im saying is its made to make the blade used for slicing sharper and if you read my last comment it can stab metal armor and flesh easily.
@warzone461 the other side does not need to sliced open, because there is nothing your shoving in. Look at the spear, the most powerfull stabbing weapon in existence; most don't even have edges, just a single point on top. "But what im saying is its made to make the blade used for slicing sharper and if you read my last comment it can stab metal armor and flesh easily." No its made to be versatile with a strong stab AND a strong slice. No weapon can stab metal armor "easily" practically every
@warzone461 sword on the planet will be stumped on mail armor, let alone Plate. Spears don't even stab through plate armor. Plate armor is even capable of stopping lances from horse back, granted youl probably suffocate from the dent, but the armor won't be pierced at all. What really makes double edged streight swords the "better" stabbing weapon, is the ease of which you can do it. With a katana you need to be precise, else the tip might glance off; whereas the longsword can hit at a somewhat
@warzone461 Now take a 30/60/90 degree right triangle, and poke yourself with it; which hurt more??? Obviously the right triangle in this case; would hurt more. Why, because a 30 degree tip is sharper than a 60 degree tip. Now this doesn't mean all single edged weapons are sharper; as there are many more setups than whats stated. For example, a 20/80/80 degree double edge weapon is sharper then the 30/60/90. Likewise the single edge could be 10/80/90. The sharper you go, the harder it is to
@warzone461 craft (and still have a durable weapon). Yes yes, I know your probably going to start saying a bunch of bull shit about how; the double edge weapon cuts open the hole on two sides as opposed to one. So I am going to put a stop to it right away, it doesn't need to cut on two sides, because its a single edge weapon. If the katana were a double edged sword where only one side were sharp; then you would have some problems. However, you don't need to slice on the other side because
You do not stab a steel chair with a Katana its made for slicing not stabing you could damage the sword that way if you keep on doing that you are going to be sharpening that weapon possibly buying a new one.
@warzone461 Its made for slicing and stabbing genius. If it wern't made for stabbing they wouldn't have made that fine point at the end, and they would have made the katana a lot more curved.
@TheBloodyBlackJackal Yeah stabing through flesh and metal armor not a steel chair there is a possibility it could get chipped (which you would have to pay alot to get it fixed) or it also can get daul (which can be fixed at a cheap price).
Plus with the chair being steel and the kantana being steel that does not help because two materials that are the same damages each other or breaks each other the steel used in both might be diffrent but unless its tools steel its going to damage each other.
@warzone461 Stabbing through metal armor is worse then stabbing a chair, it matters not what metals are used, simple the fact that its a hard metal vs hard metal is what makes it dangerous. "it is mostly fitted for slicing you would not see that on a sword made to stab stab its opponet the blade would have two edges." Two edges or one (of which there are double edged katana's), it matters very little. What makes a stabbing weapon is how sharp the point is, and how sturdy the weapon is...
@shroom3r Yes they are. Some have a copper jacket (aka full metal jacket) to allow it to pierce through hard materials like stone but most all bullets are indeed lead.
The reason a sword can cut a bullet is the difference in the materials. Lead may be heavy, but it is soft (the weight gives bullets the knockdown power they need). Tempered steel like a sword edge is very hard. When something soft meets something hard, the results are very predictible.
@LelouViBrittania They used to have to fight with these warriors, militia, etc. wore armor made of metal, likely stronger than this chair. If you have a katana that was well made and meant to be used, you can do this without too much damage to the blade, and if you do damage it, sharpen it back to a razor edge (as any one with a quality blade should be able to do), strop it, and polish out scratches if it bothers you. Katana are tools for defense, so make sure they do the job, before it matters.
@LelouViBrittania Also, "hugobossdb" makes a great point "uhh.. not like it was hand forged by a master craftsman... it's just some cheap reproduction he prob bought on QVC from a redneck with tourettes... who cares, stab a chair weeee!". It likely isn't a great sword in the first place, it is a good thing if and idiot dulls his blade, then he won't accidentally hurt himself or others with his ignorance and lack of training, formal or informal.
@LelouViBrittania well not every katana is hand forged from japan... they make "beater" swords for this sort of messing around. im sure this katana is very replaceable.
@viper2788 I'm inclined to agree, but it would still have to be very high quality, basically a sword designed purely for cutting practice. Cutters are very strong and incredibly sharp, but very simplistic asthetically speaking. It allows the companies to sell what more or less is a REAL Katana at a price that most anyone can afford. This information is an addendum to your comment, for the person you responded to.
@rogantu its not if it can take it or not, katanas get damaged on steel, they were ment to cut flesh. and they should be respected for their history. i guess cutting a steel chair is not the best example
@4everdargon Okay. My point being that a real samurai or ninja would be able to stare at the chair until it split in half using sheer will power. And he kinda looks like he was dressed like a ninja with all black on.
cant cut what you cant see...but seriously, if you went back in time to ancient Japan and brought back a real samurai, what would he think about how swords are used these days? in his time they were the actual soul of the warrior who carried it. these days, idiots use them to slice water bottles, poke holes in chairs, and do light yard work.
creationism? evolution? theyre both a joke. Only a select few of us know the truth. Many moons ago, bruce lee flew down from space on a chariot driven by 18 flaming pale horses. Bruce lee then made lightning shoot out of his fingertips, which sparked intelligence into apes, he then decided to live among them, the legend goes on....
All the Bruce Lee v. Chuck Norris comments make me laugh. They never actually Fought; it was stated in interviews that their fight in Return of the Dragon was staged; being the star, Bruce had to win, of course he wanted it to seem close and exciting.
In reality they were great friends, and had friendly sparring matches often. 'Who was better' was of no concern for them.
I love any excuse to stab or slash random objects with a sword. But I'm not sure if it proves anything. I mean, you could probably stab a screwdriver into the hollow bits of a cheaply made chair.
For the idiots that think katanas aren't meant stabbing: Ofcourse you can stab with a katana, otherwise katanakas wouldn't bother with the kissaki. There are katas that include forward thrusts. Why would the Japanese make a sword that only slashes without having the option of thrusting?
@jaysong87 chuck norris can do that with his pinky, although chuck norris will never be found doing this because all chairs run in fear at the sight of chuck norris.

Febeleh 2 months ago
@LelouViBrittania lmao this test wouldnt hurt a blade worth anything
Undeadpizzaboy 1 month ago
@LelouViBrittania Yeah that chair should get the respect it deserves!
Kurofrope 1 month ago
@LelouViBrittania
Amen to that.
NewTypeDilemma01 1 month ago
@LelouViBrittania well not every katana is hand forged from japan... they make "beater" swords for this sort of messing around. im sure this katana is very replaceable.
viper2788 1 month ago
@viper2788 I'm inclined to agree, but it would still have to be very high quality, basically a sword designed purely for cutting practice. Cutters are very strong and incredibly sharp, but very simplistic asthetically speaking. It allows the companies to sell what more or less is a REAL Katana at a price that most anyone can afford. This information is an addendum to your comment, for the person you responded to.

poor katana...
joaoaguilarr 3 months ago
@joaoaguilarr a good katana can take that easily. a bad one however no.
rogantu 3 months ago
@rogantu its not if it can take it or not, katanas get damaged on steel, they were ment to cut flesh. and they should be respected for their history. i guess cutting a steel chair is not the best example

If he was a real Ninja he wouldn't need the sword.
PRSguy94 3 months ago
ninja and samurie are different cultures and fighting styles
4everdargon 3 months ago
@4everdargon Okay. My point being that a real samurai or ninja would be able to stare at the chair until it split in half using sheer will power. And he kinda looks like he was dressed like a ninja with all black on.

ballsackproductions5 4 months ago
@ballsackproductions5 Katanas cut better than they stab, so more like than not, you'll be castrated if he tried.
VerbosityFail 4 months ago
@ballsackproductions5
cant cut what you cant see...but seriously, if you went back in time to ancient Japan and brought back a real samurai, what would he think about how swords are used these days? in his time they were the actual soul of the warrior who carried it. these days, idiots use them to slice water bottles, poke holes in chairs, and do light yard work.
etheangel2220 4 months ago
I believe I did that same thing with a steak knife I bought from the Dollar Store when I was a teenager. So, there is no epicness here.

creationism? evolution? theyre both a joke.

WitheringintheDark 5 months ago
@WitheringintheDark They did fight. Sparring matches is fighting. Bruce also trained Chuck.

I love any excuse to stab or slash random objects with a sword. But I'm not sure if it proves anything. I mean, you could probably stab a screwdriver into the hollow bits of a cheaply made chair.
existenceisrelative 5 months ago
the sound was so cool
Zauten 5 months ago
For the idiots that think katanas aren't meant stabbing: Ofcourse you can stab with a katana, otherwise katanakas wouldn't bother with the kissaki. There are katas that include forward thrusts. Why would the Japanese make a sword that only slashes without having the option of thrusting?
