Yes i was alive in the 90s.I have 3 G3 computers.Im getting the 40 % from the tests from 1999.Also don't forget that in august of 99 apple introduced the powermac g4 wich is killed the pentium 3.I can do thing on a powermac g3 or g4 that on a pentium 2/3 pc can't. A pentium 3 pc is now useless.A g4 however still good for graphic design(i know it because i tried it).And i don't talked about the pentium 4.The G5 is simply can eat the pentium 4 for breakfast.

i gave one of these to my friend. she is taking good care of it. and mine originally shipped with 384MB of ram with AirPort included. still had the standard 13GB HDD, and 400MHz G3. as well as the DVD-ROM drive. it had Mac OS X 10.4.11 when i gave it away.

What a piece of junk! Even for it's day it was pretty awful. No 3rd party developers would touch that shit with a 100 foot pole back then and the specs were abysmal. I'm glad I've never been a sucker for advertising.

And it was cheaper too.So You hate the iMac g3 because you realized that it was so much better than the PCs.And you never had the money to buy one.When the iMac g3 came out every developer jumped to apple to develop to mac os 9.The iMac G3 is still a useful computer while the pentium 2 PCs are don't.

@vajksziget7a I beg to differ. I don't know where you're getting the "40%" from but I don't think there was a significant performance difference between the original G3s and the Pentium 2.

By the time the G3 Special Edition came out, most people had the Pentium 3 under the hood on their PCs and it was MOST DEFINITELY faster than the G3 by that time. Only the Powermac (which cost about twice as much as a P3 PC at the time) could compete.

Were you even alive during the late 90's?

@vajksziget7a FWIW, I'm running Apache on an old Pentium 4 PC. It's pretty useful as a NAS/Webserver/Torrent downloader/Samba share host/Printer server/whatever I want....

Apache also now comes installed on every Mac with Mac OS X 10.3 or later. I guess they figure you needed help doing the same thing everyone else does when their computer is old...

@vajksziget7a Just to be clear, I'm running Apache on Linux. Every other function comes from other software.... Why am I explaining. You don't even do anything with your G3 (if you have one). Your idea of work is probably not very technically oriented or else you'd just get a new computer.
