@seyer180 That's called Micro-transactions. First of all for the company this is a very unstable way of getting money and second of all it sucks for players. You real life should have nothing to do with the game, someone who is rich will get a huge advantage over less rich people which is clearly unfair- we all get the game together, pay as much and being on equal level when it comes to competing.

@twoandahalfguys GW2 has a different marketing strategy you dumb shit !They create periodical Patches and have a Cash shop which won't affect gameplay.They care about their customers, that's why they don't make it monthly fee. They said that they don't want people to treat a fucking game like their fucking electric bill. It's just a game at the end of the day, and GW2 has a mature, social, casual demographic, as opposed to the ugly anti social 12 and 45 year olds that WoW and SWTOR will have.
@OvarOddsSaga In Guild wars you have free to play but buy massive campaign packs to travel to new continents (Nightfall, Factions, eye of the north). So you'd actually be paying less than you would WOW, where you are expected to pay for the new content (Wrath of the Lich king ETC) AND the pay to play it.
And, yeah, although Guild wars 1 was pretty shit besides PVP, Guild wars 2 will have the same business model to it and looks utterly epic from the content video's they have given out so far.
@echoingheads But a game shouldn't be defined on/around expansions. That just proves that at a certain point gameplay will become boring and repetitive. GW2 only looks epic because they have put graphical content as their first priority in trailers/gameplay demo's to draw people in. If you strip all the graphics from GW2 does it still look a good game? Or does it look like every other MMO that has been released. That's where SWTOR differs, the focus on story makes this game innovative and new.

That should demonstrate all the new idea's that Guildwars developers are putting forward into their game, improving on the more traditional MMORPG elements and replacing it with Dynamic events and ridding of the "Holy Trinity" role system to make the player feel more involved in their world.
@Eslates I've played the Old republic beta but not Guild wars 2.
I really liked TOR, very good story aspects and lively combat as a smuggler, but there are too many aspects of the game such as the holy trinity system, annoying questing system (you have to go through a whole dialogue to get each individual quest, which helps with the realism of the world, but is annoying if you just want to get on with the actual game) and monthly fee's put me off investing in it compared to GW2.
@echoingheads GW2 does not get rid of the trinity system like everyone is saying.Getting rid of it would mean there is no need to tank something, no need to heal and most importan not even a need for dmg. GW2 lets everyone tank heal and deal dmg and that is far worse than a normal trinity system from my point of view. Its just the most casual version of trinity system possible
Many cant event deal with 1 job bút giving them the option to do all 3 roles (just 1 at once) will just go wrong
@Kalecism How is combining a healer, DPS and tank all in one a bad thing?
Look at a game like skyrim or the witcher 2, you have to crowd manage, heal yourself and deal damage in that form of combat all the time, and it's great because you are feeling involved with combat addressing different issues when they arise rather than sticking to a role and repeating the same actions over and over again.
Put in some team skills such as party buffs and combined skills and you have a great experience.
@echoingheads Games like Witcher dont have a trinity system. But GW2 has it but everyone keeps believing it does not. In Witcher or those games, you are alone, you are a 1man army if you want to call it that. But in an MMO that will never work, otherwise it wouldnt be an MMO but just a singleplayer with online chatlounge.
GW2 will still need players to take 1 Role for a fight. If you go against a Dragon, you will need Tanks, Healers and DD's, its still trinity like i said the most casual version

Though, while the existence of DPS and tanks is very debatable, the replacement of a healer with dodging skills and personal healing is a godsend ....let me explain why in another comment =P
Because my Gameplay isn't bogged down by looking for a good healer and when I do finding the whole experienced ruined because he is bad. I am responsible for my own health, and while people look forward to me being there and I feel the same to them because we are all buffing and causing damage to the enemy, I can skill feel focused on what is happening in the game world rather than rely on another player.

@Kalecism I suppose it's really down to a matter of opinion. Personally I think the primary reason to play a MMO is to have fun and from playing WOW I had very little fun waiting for a healer and then getting pissed because after all that time we find that he is just this 10 year old that had no idea what is going on.
I got round this issue by joining a good guild, but sometimes the guild members weren't all there and it really felt like treating the symptoms and not the cause.
@echoingheads Okay, so you dont like the aspect of voice dialogue? You know theres voice dialogue in GW2 too. It sounds like you would rather have the Wow system of questing.
@Eslates GW2 gets on with it. Where with SWTOR every quest is this long drawn out mass effect like conversation, GW2 has a relatively short cut scene addressing the situation and the rest is NPC's screaming at you when a dragon lands on your head. It's action filled and fun, and there is little motivation to just go 'URGH!' and skip through anything.

But the gameplay videos certainly suggest that, and most quests happen naturally when you stumble on to them in event zones with out any dialogue what so ever.
@mattyonline2 Plus, there is no evidence that SWTOR will not run out of content eventually, and when it does it will either do either of the two: Patch itself up regularly to give the new content for free to players, in which case I'm happy to pay to play it, or secondly, it will go WOW method of paying to play AND the expansion packs. Sadly I think it will go the later method, because for one: It's STARWARS with planets, good for expansions and it makes them the most money.

Intel 4100 (sysrem required card) or Intel HD 3000?
I am sure it will be around $15 per month, pretty standard for pay to play MMOs, and possibly lower rates if you pay for 3, 6 or 12 month blocks at a time.
@mcatoverde look at the date it was uploaded its was 2008. incase oyu dont knw we are now in 2011 and there still working on perfecting it, its going to be a great game, not for every one, but there is a huge starwars fanbase out there that is interested in biowares storytelling, which imo they have always done incredebly well
@jacobscorpio588 Guild Wars 2 will be a MMORPG that will have a ton of support from programmers all the time fixing bugs, updating the game, and adding new content and it looks awesome and you don't need to pay monthly to play. So, playing a MMO doesn't mean to pay to play. But this game looks great! :D
@MandaloreShield It's not finalized graphics, they're probably going to have options for higher quality graphics when It releases. And also I think they want to make sure even people with single core cpu's can play.
I was in a room with my friends talking about upcoming games. The only person who got excited over this game was my 6 year old step-brother who overheard our conversation from the other room. I dont think anyone who respects themselves would play an Mmo based off a childrens franchise, no matter now good it is, which it wont be, just another wow clone.
It is no coicidence that they say they can survive on 500,000 subs because 3 months after launch that is all they will have. 6 months to a year, they will probrably be looking at free to play options. The game is that bad. Its "entertainment", not creative competition.
Basically you will be paying $15 a month to paly a boring semi-one person game, with pvp poorly forced in via little mini-game rooms where level and gear don't matter, and little group areas based around "healing" with no auto-group function. They spent most of their resources on sound effects and voice acting and cutscreens, that's really not what I'm looking for. The fun of gameplay is just non-existent. It's a grinding, repetitive, arcade style dog and pony show, with no substance.
@jacobscorpio588 why not just make KotoR 3? or better yet, remake kotor 1 and 2 and put in all the missing content since LucasArts are a bunch of money hungry bastards =p

PVP is atrocious, the quests are all the same and the dialogue crap just wastes your time. It's meant to be like a semi-interactive comic book, half of their efort went into writing this "story", that is just not what you play games for. This game is a serious disappointment, not a shock, considering.

@jacobscorpio588 Guild Wars 2 will be a MMORPG that will have a ton of support from programmers all the time fixing bugs, updating the game, and adding new content and it looks awesome and you don't need to pay monthly to play. So, playing a MMO doesn't mean to pay to play. But this game looks great! :D

I was in a room with my friends talking about upcoming games. The only person who got excited over this game was my 6 year old step-brother who overheard our conversation from the other room. It is no coicidence that they say they can survive on 500,000 subs because 3 months after launch that is all they will have. 6 months to a year, they will probrably be looking at free to play options. The game is that bad. Its "entertainment", not creative competition.

Basically you will be paying $15 a month to paly a boring semi-one person game, with pvp poorly forced in via little mini-game rooms where level and gear don't matter, and little group areas based around "healing" with no auto-group function. They spent most of their resources on sound effects and voice acting and cutscreens, that's really not what I'm looking for. The fun of gameplay is just non-existent. It's a grinding, repetitive, arcade style dog and pony show, with no substance.

PVP is atrocious, the quests are all the same and the dialogue crap just wastes your time. It's meant to be like a semi-interactive comic book, half of their efort went into writing this "story", that is just not what you play games for. This game is a serious disappointment, not a shock, considering.
