Phil Spector's parents were 1st cousins... His father committed suicide when Phil was very young, leaving him to be raised by a obsessive controlling mother and a sister who followed in his mother's footsteps. Phil was very short and frail and was constantly picked on by bullies at school. I am not making excuses for him, but certainly he had his challenges. When you combine all that with the wealth and power he achieved, it is not surprising that he developed a history of irrational acts.

The statement he made to that chauffer AND then after Roert Blake and OJ got off,,,here comes PHIL,,,the jury was up against all that. I think him and Clarkson were fooling around with his gun probably both drunk or high or both and the gun went off. His appearance in court didn't help.

actually as a studio engineer myself he wasn't really all that great, he just turned everything up loud. That was his "wall of sound" secret, anybody can do that. A real producer would never do that.

He was hardly the talent that people make him out to be. He turned out some good ones, but usually his heavy orchestration would become annoying, I.E. his mix of Let It Be.

And he should burn in hell.

Spector takes a lot of credit that rightly belongs to the musicians. His "thick" sound might have been a plus in the days of tinny-sounding AM radios, but it can't compete with the clarity that came with newer technology. Spector didn't make that transition very well.

Phils layering of sound was so amazing. This was multitracking by replaying the same part over and over again and then mixing it together. Listen to the lush guitar intro on My Sweet Lord. I understand he was a major pain in the ass to work with- but a genius. An absolute genius.

The "professor" is partially correct--the original Crystals were 5 brooklyn teenagers. B. Alston, Dee Dee Kennibrew, Myrna Girard, Mary Thomas & Pat Wright. But NO original Crystal sang on "He's a Rebel." It was Love backed by the Blossoms. BTW, what is "Cara Mia" by Jay/Americans doing here? IMO, Phil had no involvement w/this song.

This was odd, it showed Ronnie Spector whil "Then He Kissed Me" played which was sung by La La Brooks of The Crystals. It also said the Crystals were really Bob B. Sox and the Blue Jeans, when the Crystals, aside from "Hes A Rebel" by Darlene Love, were La La Brooks and Barbara Alston backed by The Blossoms and Cher. Not very accurate.
