If they want to take the number one position for once...they should lead the electric vehicle revolution. "Imagine saying, "Chrysler was the ones who truly led the pack when it came to electric vehicle choices". They can, question is, will they wait again to see what the other makers do before acting. Come on Chrysler, time to grab some "leadership" balls and go for it.
@volvocare Last time they tried taking leadership they pretty much invented front wheel drive AND the minivan... that came back to bite them in the ass, as they are now known for 'bad transmissions'.
Its cool that they have all of these concepts but I dont know if they will actually be able to bring them to the market. The cost of the batteries needs to come way down first. I like the look of the 200c way better then the Volt. I really hope the replacement for the Sebring/Avenger comes soon they look terrible
The Avenger actually looks good, especially in the R/T trim. But I have to agree that the Sebring, while a capable car, does looks terrible. It's too busy. I can't wait to see the 200C on the market in electric AND gasoline form.
I thought the whole point of limiting the range to 40 miles was to negate the cost of batteries? I don't expect these vehicles to cost huge amounts over gas-only versions.
I remember hearing somewhere that Dodge made a Ram variant for the military that worked like this, with the electric power and gas generator. It had plenty of power for going off-road and could carry all that was needed, but crucially, was dead silent when you cut the generator.
If this story is true, which I can't guarantee it is, I would like to know why they didn't market this thing, or something similar. A pickup truck without the stigma of horrible mileage would be a great niche to sell.
Damn, I love the 200C. My goodness, that's what the Sebring should have been. They should make a gasoline version of this car, too, especially with the new Phoenix engine in development. Both versions should do well.
True that. It's crazy that Dodge, like Tesla, is looking to Lotus to serve as a basis for their electric performance cars. Business must be good for Lotus.
Why not just have a regular petrol burning engine, then? If you're just going to generate the power with the same motor, you're just adding weight to the car. It's just an over-hyped hybrid that you can plug in.
We need EREV like the volt and 200C EV now!! This type of Extended Range Electric can be a bridge for battery and ev technology. I know about the Texaco NiMH battery scandal but as we gat a mass produced EREV then EV technology will be in place and ready for the next battery technology (After Texaco patient runs out) So we need to get behind this and stop looking back.
The general public would be shocked to find out Chrysler is one of the worlds largest producers of electric vehicles.

that orange one has a nice body. Chrysler keeps making ugly vehicles...does it cost more money to bend that sheet metal into a prettier shape?
