  • The books are horrible i'd rather see the movie what is everyone saying

  • I don't particularly like the books. The movie looks worst than the book.

  • GSonlyone: do you know the name of the soundrack that beggins after 1:58 ? Is it two steps from hell? Thanks for your help.

  • God I shudder to think the horror of what they'd have done if they'd continued it to a series urgh...they'd screw up all the Welsh bits and being from Wales I'd probably fly over to the US just to give the director a decking.

  • Someone needs to remake this film, and make it fit with the damn book.

  • Does any one knows the song playing after 1:58 ?

  • I only read the first book and never finished it. It was SOOOO boring!! >:(

  • Why? Why? $ Not for any amount of money would I see movie after wincing through the trailer.

  • he's supposed to be british....

  • This is literally the worst movie adaption of a book I have ever seen....

  • Looks like Dr.Who downgraded from the tardis to a horse...

  • This is movie was amazing even though I'd never read the books before. Now I know how others feel when they hear book fans complain about the movie. This has made me watch movies first then read books afterwards. Just for switching kicks. LOVE this movie.

  • Lol, Merriman looks more like the Walker than the actual Walker does! :D

  • "Can I fly?"

    "What?"

    "You know, woosh?"

    Lol

  • i love the part when christian speared summe and summer used the killswitch on christian

  • Just finished reading the book--I had not realized there was actually a movie made from it. Just watching the trailer I can't imagine, from a perspective of comparing it to the book, that it is anything less than horrible. As much as I like Ian McShane, what a woeful miscasting that is (in addition to everyone else I noticed).

  • @faville I tried watching it after reading the books. McShane was actually pretty good, but not even he could save the movie.

  • i love these books, this movie did not do them justice

  • the trailer sucks. but i've actually seen the movie and i loved it. :/ x

  • This movie looks sooooo shitty. The kid is so ugly that he deserves to be stabbed in the face.

  • Just 10 quick things wrong with this movie IN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES I. Gwen is one of the older kids. II. Max is not home. III. There are no cell phones. IV. They live on a farm. V. Merriman is supposed to be an olde, Einstein-haired, wizardy man... VI. Mrs Greythorn can't walk... VII. They go to GET the tree. VIII. THEY ARE ENGLISH IX. Where is Mary? X. Will already LIVES in the attic...the first attic, not the twins. All in ten minutes...I would keep going but I'm out of characters.
  • @BenedictRoend

OMG I've only read the first book (over sea under stone) is Merriman in The Dark is Rising? Because I swear, I loved him in the first book! :)

  • @annie10103 Most people think the first book is the weakest in the series, so if you loved Over Sea Under Stone you'll adore the rest of them, and yes Merriman is in the rest too.

  • @cjgrayside

I've got quite a few chapters into the second book, and in my opinion I think it's weaker than the first book. I think I just like the plot more in Over Sea Under Stone. Haha Merriman is the best character by far.

  • @annie10103 Keep reading. Merriman gets better. I thought he was rather cranky in the first half of the second book, but then he goes back to his badass, snarky self. :)

  • @90geekgirl06

Yeah he was a bit pissed off to begin with, I loved it when he changed near the end. Best character by FAR.

  • @annie10103 I wanted to hug him after the third book, Greenwitch. And then the last book made me sob. Just read.

  • @90geekgirl06

    I will :)

  • what is that boys name?

  • heres how to talk to a girl tell her u hav lots of money n she'll come running and if she doesnt then u no shes a keeper

  • dinner

  • I think Eccleston was a good casting

  • LOL my dad wnated me to read more so i grabbed this book randomly and the movie came out the next month i was like WTF.

  • The security gaurds have American accents in the trailer. But in the movie they're English.

It seems that The Seeker, and The Dark Is Rising have a slightly different script despite being the same movie

  • Why isn't it in England?

Why doesn't he live on a farm?

    Who are those police?

Why doesn't the rider actually look threatening?

Why are the signs glowing orbs?

    I'm not watching this. >:(

  • i read them all in 80

  • lol this looks as bad as id heard. It starts off looking like a teen sex comedy!

  • im reading this book in P.A.C.E ans the book is way better.... this movie makes itself look terrible by watching the trailer lol it will never be as good as the book.. like its not even in the same time period... .bleh!

  • im reading the book for english class and it is nothing like it apperentley read the book before you watch the movie

  • They made this seem like a run-of-the mill fantasy. Can someone please inform Hollywood that there is a difference between good fantasy and bad fantasy, as different as Pride & Prejudice and pink, sultry romance novels?

  • What a horrible dissapointment. How on earth can you have a book series which is set intrinsicly tied to Wales, England, Cornwall and the legends of King Arthur in America?! The books were brilliant, this film looks distressing. Bad casting choices too. I have no problem with books being adapted for screen, but there's adapting and completly rewriting. I wonder what the author thought.

  • i hate that book so much my teacher really makes me mad for assighning this book THIS BOOK SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm reading this book for school right now, and i thought it was set on a farm in Britain!!!..............the things they do to change movies now a days

  • Who the fuck casted this kid? He can't act worth a shit.

  • oh this looks so terribly crass. hollywood ruins everything

  • Anyone know what song it is in the beginning?

  • I'm not even halfway through the book for the first time and, wow, have they changed it. I like Christopher Eccleston, but I won't be seeing this movie anytime soon. (And I find it pretty stupid that they changed the setting for no discernible reason whatsoever, and I'm an American!)

  • Bloody yanks make sure americans are everywhere.... shoulda stuck to a british famiy like. Love the books!

  • I just got the books, hope its good. :D

  • i think this is a very good film and complements the books fantastically!

yes it is done by Americans but hey 90% OF FILMS THESE DAYS ARE!!!! i find it very hard to find a decent film done by English directors!!

  • @fairy425 90% How about Bollywood?

  • @fairy425 you have to be kidding me...this film was the worst movie ever

  • Shit film by the looks of it! Why do they have 2 have a whining Yank kid in it alongside sum great Brit actprs? Bollox!

  • Comment removed

  • derp-a-derp a-derpie-derp!!!.......why'd they hire that voice actor?!?...this story is way better than that. they sold it short with this shitty trailer.

  • meh...ghey...not even worth d/ling a dvd rip...I suppose children might be pleased by it.

  • hmm seems quite interesting

  • First half of the trailer made me think I was watching Home Alone 12.

  • i ve been reading the book and its different

  • The book was nothing like this. The book series is 1000 times better than this.

  • @Masakochan17 books are always better than movies because with books you are imagining it.

  • I read the series when I was in primary school, Masakochan17.

Even if I was given free tickets to the entire theatre,

after seeing this trailer, i'd rather read them all again.

  • @Masakochan17 ikr

  • am so ganna watch this movie

  • Why, oh why did they cose that actor as Merriman Lyon, are they mad??? He is to small, to heavy is nose isn't at all like described in the book, and they didn't even bother to make his hair white. Really, they could have done better.

  • @mcgonagall1512 agreed. He's way too small. And they didn't have the right amount of sibligs in the film either and they're named wrong.

  • the movie is good

  • SHIT!!! I have to read this book for HW everyday... DAM'T!!! Its too hard

  • isnt emma lockhart suppose to be in this movie?

  • I have to read this stupid book for school

  • this is not a good film the books were bad and the film is even worse!!!!

  • ok-boy is the chosen one-boy through time-boy saves world-boy bangs girl.......you got the point right?

  • A boy's life is turned upside down when he learns that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark...a nice movie to watch check this flick here

    easy media click (dot) com

  • i know that many people wont agree with me but i think its one of the worst movie i've ever seen.

    it gave me headache.

  • i love the book and the movie is inspiring

  • can i fly

    what?

    you know, whooosh

    lol wtf

ive only seen half this movie and i loved it, sorry but its just my opinion, i wanna see the rest

  • I have to do a paper on this book. Pretty much on how it's still relevant in todays society.

  • I haven't seen this movie. I just saw an early trailer and wanted to crawl into a hole and die. BUT I suppose that's always the case with book fans who see one of their favourites being radically... erm... re-imagined. It does seem, however that the film-makers had absolutely no faith in, or feeling for their source material. I'm working on an adaptation of Alan Garner's "The Owl Service" relocated to Santa Monica, with Zac & Miley- anyone buying?

  • I haven't seen this yet either, and I guess I should before I make any judgements, but I do agree it looks nothing like the book.

  • @tigerboy1966 I agree. When I read this book [and all the other ones in the series] I didn't really picture it like this...

Tho I am still curious as to how the movie turned out. I haven't seen it. ^-^

  • i saw the same trailer, except at the end, instead of 'The Dark is Rising,' it says 'The Seeker: the Dark is Rising'

    ?

  • This is the worst book-to-film-adaptation that I have EVER seen. The main thing being the fact that they american-ized this. WHY?! And the twin brother and wrong actors for Will (ESPECIALLY WILL), Merriman and The Rider and oh god the list goes on.

Even as its own movie it's not even decent, way below average. :/

  • Stupid book, stupid movie.

  • I love the book. Though the movie was a waaay over the top adaption that didn't quite fit in with the summary of the book. The actors are gr8 though but the script is just soo, not like in the book. The book is better.

  • *thinking* I thought the book was better just because it was a little diffrent from the actual movie. The movie was Good but the Books are great. They are much diffrent fron this, read them. And please do not flame if you like the movie because I never said that it was bad....

    <3

  • Sorry to buck the trend, but I really like this movie. I've watched it several times and it just gets better.

I am not a kid, I've seen a million movies.

  • Dang, didn't even know there was that many movies made...

  • Have you ever seen a movie that was already bad, and then the lead actor grabs it by the throat and hurls it over the edge into utter garbage? This is what Alexander Ludwig did to this movie. It was already vapid, dimwitted, and a thoroughly bad adaptation...then Ludwig storms in and slathers his sour-faced, wooden, emo bitchyness over everything. It's one of the rare times that I found myself actively HATING the actor more than the movie itself.

  • i loved this movie saw it barely yesterday it was good=]

  • the expectation* of the ones that read the book:P

  • what can i say, i was part of the extra's that were involved in the movie, for me it was a great experience, seeing all the fun, the actors that played in it, and well getting payed for the work i done:P the movie wasn't so bad but i think it didn't reach the of the ones that read the book.

  • i haven't read the book but i really don't like the movie.

  • Harry Potter?

  • the book this movie is based on was written in the 70s, waaaay before harry potter. :)

  • I'm just finishing the book but this seems waaaay too different! I hate when they do that to good books!

  • the movie was ok but the book is awesome! :)

  • apparently you havent seen many good movies,,,,this movie sucks

  • It's not really the movie itself, it's the story.

  • I hope you're either joking or you haven't seen very many movies XD

  • Where can I get this movie?

  • i have seen the real movie and it is called"the legend of the seeker" u guys should see it . It is so cool and i have fallen in love with it. WATCH IT NOW,HERE ON YOUTUBE

  • yeah i love this film its won of my favorites of alll times

  • LOL . It's not the same one. The Legend of the Seeker is another show. Different from the Dark is Rising: The seeker

  • my friend is in this!yay GO TAYLOR !!!!!!

  • The only reason I watched this film was because of Christopher Eccleston (he plays the main villain in it). He was fantastic, but I think they should've given him more screen time.

The rest of the film's crap -- the main character in particular is very annoying.

  • Now every time I see that little shit who "played as" Will, I want to beat him with a stick

  • I'm reading the dark is rising sequence right now and i absolutly love it. The film version of books is usually nothing great but this seems like the biggest let sown since the da vinci code. I agree with veganactor, they shouldn't have changed the setting to America. The whole series is based on Arthurian legends and england is such a massive part of the story. I'm not even oing to bothr seeing it.

  • I love the books. The movie is a little retarded. It was somewhat entertaining still, it was so pathetic.

  • didn't they call this the seekers?

i thought it was stupid but i'm going to try the book ^^

  • "Can I fly?" "What" O.o lol, awesome XD

  • crap...crap whers the walker. horrible movie...

  • I just can't believe they set this in America. Americans know what America is like and children do not need it to be set in America "so they can relate". The stories are intrinsically tied to England and if the producers of this had learned anything from Harry Potter, they would have learned that Americans love the combination of Fantasy and England. For most Americans England is a fantasy place. Not some lame shopping mall in Los Angles. What fools to ruin such a book.

  • Agreed, But we do have Malls like that in South London, though we call them Shpping Centers =]

  • @veganactor I agree. The only reason to why I watch the film is because Christopher Eccleston does a lovely job as the walker. Other than that I don't see how they ever thought setting it in america would help and the ending of it doesn't match at all. You can't set a king arthur themed book in the US when the entire king arthur legend is set specifically in Wales and England. Way to go america.

  • @veganactor it takes place in England which you would know if you'd ever seen it. They just made the family American.

  • @veganactor It was set in England, the main character was just made American.

  • @veganactor i disagree but only if it's long. thank you spammer.

  • @veganactor I KNOW! This movie made me so incredibly angry. I was excited at first, when I heard it would be a movie, but there were so many things wrong with it IN THE FIRST FIVE MINUETS that I almost left the theatre. One of my favourite book series' that I hoped others could love the same way I do, now ruined by this movie! Any child that sees this will have a tainted view of the amazing books! I am very upset.

  • alexander is so cute!!

  • i read the book a long time ago. Was good, but like others said, the movie doesn't seem like much.

  • Listen to Lovejoy!

  • the books were great, but the movie doesn't look like much.

  • the actor who plays will is cuter now...He looks good in Race to witch mountain <3

  • How come the security guards are dubbed American? The original Brit accents in my copy are far scarier.

Set in a far cheaper version of England that looks alot like eastern europe, this is an overlooked fantasy goodie.

    Selecta!

  • 2:12 - 2:16

  • 1:34-1:38

  • 1:56 - 1:58

    cutie <33

  • i thought that boy was super cute since thi smovie. now.. that boy's just ... fine :)

  • Fire on the mountain shall find the harp of gold

Played to wake the Sleepers, the oldest of the old

Power from the green witch, lost beneath the sea

All shall find the light at last, silver on the tree.

  • When the dark comes rising six shall turn it back

Three from the circle three from the track

Wood, bronze, iron, water, fire, stone,

Five will return and one go alone

Iron for the birthday, bronze carried long

Wood from the burning, stone out of song

Fire in the candle-ring, water from the thaw

Six signs the circle and the grail gone before

  • You've got to be kidding. The Dark is Rising is my 3rd favorite series (after HP and Inkheart), and I can't believe what these people did to it! It's like they read the back of the book! Still, the trailer's pretty epic. MUSIC: 1:45-1:58- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer music (Brand X Music- Slay the Dragon), 1:59-end- X-Ray Dog- Darkness and Light

  • this looked good :)

BUT it was waaaaay off from the book : / this is too... modern... and if I catch it right the plot isnt even near the same!!! but I can see it when I watch whole movie.

  • This was actually a good movie. Many people thought it was a Harry Potter ripoff, with the protagonist went hunting and destroying objects to destroy the dark antagonist. But the book was before Harry Potter, and even JKR admit she borrows some idea from this book.

  • I thought this movie was called the seeker.

  • This movie is based on a British book called "The Dark is rising." In the US, it went by "The Seeker" and in the UK it went by "The Dark is Rising." I think the DVD says The Seeker: The Dark is Rising.

  • Another hastily cranked-out Harry Potter Clone.

  • the book was made before harry potter :/

  • damn, this guy is a copy of one of my classmates o_O

  • LOL

  • Cheese-tastic. :-P

  • .....?

alk about a bad trailer. (Im reading the book and IT IS NOTHING CLOSE TO THIS!)

  • NO movie is ever as good as the book , only a few!

  • i saw the movie ages ago, i didnt think that they had a trailor for it. my grandma got me the book for christams and i just started reading, then i saw the trailor, and now i wanna see it again O.O

  • "Can i fly?"

    "What?"

    "You know... whoosh?"

    lol cracked up

  • it looks good...

  • i watch this movie every weekend i never get

tierd of watching it,well can't wait

to watch ur new movie.i'd just watch ur new

movie well it is just a trailer but it is

a very very good movie can't wait to watch it.

  • If watched without comparing it to the books, this film is actually quite decent. I enjoyed it greatly. The filming style was actually pretty stunning.

  • this movie was great, i'd watch it again if i got the chance

  • tis film shit??ur eyes got shit ha?

  • oh my brother hiki love tis so much!

  • this films so shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Interesting, but it seems very different from the books, if my memory is correct.

  • Updating is fine, but here they kept the title and inserted a completely different story. The screenplay writer admitted to not having bothered to read the rest of the sequence - WTF??? Hope they lost tons of money on this, it's well, well deserved. And what bright spark cast Lovejoy as Merriman?

  • One last thing,I just realized that they put the brother in as a replacement for one of Will's sisters. Not much sense.

  • One of my biggest ifs is that in this trailer, they made Maggie look good.WTH!

  • They took out a lot of the story content and replaced it with cliques, fillers, and put in a boy with no self-control.Not a good movie.

  • I also found that they ruined the balance between the Light and the Dark. One more thing, why did they add the twin brother? There was no mention of a brother.

  • I found that it wasn't as good as the books. They took out Hern the Hunter and The Walker so that weakened the storyline.

  • I have this book. And I had no idea they were making a movie, is it already out?

  • yeah, but trust me WORST MOVIE EVER! thin storyline, terrible scene selection. i have never read the book and many people say its great, but this movie makes me NOT want to read the book.

  • O_0

  • And I know that many of you like Twilight (/are obsessed wth it) but the movie is wortha crap. I admit that i liked the original book and that it was funny and edgy and very captivating but the movie itself could have gone WAAAAAY better. you agree, doncha?

Take LOTR. although i dun like it that much cuz all it does is remind me of NEW YEARS EVE cuz thats when all the parts are shown, every year. But the characters and the depth is AMAZING.

God, Twilight sucks because of the movie.

  • wow the movie didnt even come out yet where i live. it looks good though. you must not live in the US.. lol

  • oh my God, there are some whackos out here using up all the commenting space.

I agree that the Dark is Rising is not a very good movie but i liked the beginning and the actor that plays Will is cute but i didn't read the book(s?). Sry.

No, what i mean so say is that all movies based on magic and wizards apart from LOTR, after Harry Potter are lousy and bad and full of cliches.

I'm sorry to say that, but its the truth. I mean, I felt bored when the plot of this movie was revealed

  • It was a good movie. I imagined Will different but the actor who played him did great.

I don't mind comparing movie to books, but some times you have to forget that and set back and enjoy.

Of course the books will always be my favorite.

  • good job underoath115

    \m/ \m/ \m/ \m/

    -yvez-

    killstabmurdermachines

  • for the ignorant pple who dont know shit about symbols...all the symbols were satanic and it was meant to save the world!!!..cant u c the sublime shit they put in movies....666 is protecting the boy! and u pple just watch like sheeps

  • Good grief! Do you reckon we'll hear Satan's voice if we play the movie backwards?

  • na but the satanic bitch director is talkin about seventh son of a seventh son..read about that...an the one who will save the world carry the number of the beast or signs of satan...cz its wierd all the symbols that saves that boy r satanic...an the director wana convince u that these symbols r the truth..so have the movie ur way..as a normal movie..or shit filled with sublime messages...but this director or the fucker who wrote the story is a miserable satanic fool

  • I was being sarcastic;not sure if you're serious but if so, check up the symbols online, it's not as bad as you think. They come from Celtic and other myths, old pagan symbols that the Christians of those days didn't understand and changed into something evil (the devil has all the characteristics of Herne the Hunter).Hollywood did the rest. The pagan faiths only strove to do the same as Christianity - bettering of mankind and glorification of God.Don't worry, the film's nothing to worry about.

  • well based on what books u did read???heh..pagan religions r all satanic my friend..wana know why? cz satan likes to call himself the sun..the moon..the serpent..the owl...which what u call pagan not satanic...i c this movie a subliminal story of the false saviour..someone will riscue humanity with his satanic symbols oh well .its based on a true story in the bible..but the producer had to change the story in a cenimatic way..thats how the zionist media in usa works..u have to get their language

  • This film was not based on a story in the bible perhaps you should look up "Dark is Rising" by Susan Cooper in the 1960's and 1970's before you write comments like that it is the second book in the Dark is Rising series it follows "Over Sea, Under Stone" and precedes "Greenwitch".They are a series of children's books and nothing more so get your story straight and read the books, because the movie isn't true to them. You miss out on over half the story that is required if they choose to make more

  • haha

oh well its inspired subliminaly by some real shit...the most close stroy for this movie is the antichrist we wait to save the world with his satanic shit symbols..if this is an innocent movies why the fuck they choose pagan an satanic symbolism that will save the world..u r missing the story not me dude..i know its a book.but when the zionist holywood makes a movie u have to be blessed by there occult fuck..its not just that movie ..most of 2007 an 2008 speakin about the same fuckin thing

  • No your still not getting it it's a story about King Arthur Will is the Last born of the old ones like Merlin it's not about the antichrist it's about KING ARTHUR. READ THE BLOODY BOOKS then tell me it's about something different.
