when you search something from google linux computers find it so that tells something :D but i use vista myself because it came with the computer and i don't need linux for anything because this works fine and most games doesn't work with linux. i have also some fake xp cd somewhere. biggest reason to have linux is maybe that it's just legally free
Well have you heard of wine or have you heard about CODING. You can help us (Linux) to make your own games or you can help us to make a compatibility program for Linux (like wine) BE LINUX and we shall conquer the whole world. Why maybe when I grow up I might make a hardware company for Linux. It will give Global Positioning Systems ETC. So the main point is to be Linux
@HerrKnitler actually i'm white, i just think considering that linux is developed worldwide (and the project leader of gnome is a woman), there should be a little more diversity in this
They all use Linux. Why would any company who's logo is displayed in this clip complain ? Not the company I work for, nor do I know of any company whom we deal with who ever complains about getting free advertising.
Well, maybe because the main idea behind GPL is to legitimize open source, public domain and occasionally free (as in "freedom" and not as in "free beer) software and using copyrights protected media to advertise GNU/Linux system (or community) is equal with saying there're no free, open or some other way allowed for sharing media worth using and the theft must be commited. What's more, it shows it's ok to use whatever can be found over the internet without its owner's permission. That's why.
The GPL is about Free Software being protected as Free Software. "open source" is an idea that came later that lacks the ideological conviction that lies behind Free Software.
"using copyrights protected media to advertise GNU/Linux system (or community) is equal with saying there're no free"
GNU/Linux is "copyright protected" (or copyleft). The GPL license keeps the code free and is legally enforceable.
How's that even an answer? I didn't stated anything that would differ from what you've just wrote. Or was that an attempt to extend my comment for the sake of people's education but then, why exactly did you -1 me? Be specific.
The GPL was written well before anyone ever heard the term "open source". It wasn't written to "legitimise" either "open source" or Free Software. Free Software IS legitimate. The GPL is about the protection of "the four freedoms" (which can be read at the Free Software Foundation's website). The GPL was and is about the protection of those freedoms.
Oh, yes. That's somewhat true. Still, open source idea evolved from the free software concept (OSS began as a marketing campaign for FOSS/FLOSS).
Originally I meant to write: "(...) the main idea behind GPL is to legitimize free (as in "freedom" and not as in "free beer) software, public domain and occasionally open source (...)"
"copyright protected"... in the context of my comments that phrase was supposed to describe proprietary character of media. I simply didn't mean to ignite the discussion about FOS/Priopretary Software. But you're right: GNU/Linux IS copyright protected and that is done by sharing under GPL (mostly) which excludes the traditional use of term "copyright protected" as in "protection from unauthorised copying".
"it shows it's ok to use whatever can be found over the internet without its owner's permission"
That is a non sequitur. The clip is merely shows brands that use GNU/Linux. The information being offered is not false, nor does it suggest breach of copyright. There is such a thing as "fair use" under the law, and how these logo's are being used constitutes fair use under the law.

And by "legitimise" I meant "lawfully protect".

How's that non-sequitur? How doesn't it suggest breach of copyright when It DOES breach MANY? The "fair use" assumes nothing "©" protected can be used in the way that suggests the material's owner supports this usage. Also the full "©" note must be stated. And for pictures showing people: above mentioned must agree for usage of their portraits unless the pictures come from sources allowing full/partial copy of their material. Still, there should be direction to the original content.
