  • @skyliner288 hehe i'm english and didnt understand that either

  • nice results with 857 !!..i get good and clear images when Noaa is passing low under 40° and using my 11el tonna to track it over the horizon.......but when the sat is higher up..signals goes down.and this is normal..i'm about to build a antenna ... hesitating between 4Xfolded dipole or quadrifilar helix..any sugestions? 73

  • Can you use a longwire antenna to do this and if so can you do a video on how to set one up please?

    thanks.

  • a short length would work better as it would be a better matching wavelength. this frequency antenna size wants to be around 2m in length.

I will do another weather Sat Vid soon ;-)

    73 Thanks!

  • hi mate, can i ask how you connect the radio to the computer?..is it just a simple 3.5mm jack from radio to a 3.5mm jack to soundcard?.thanks for any help,,nice vid by the way too...all the best wayne.

  • Hi Wayne, yes that's it. Just make sure that the levels are kept low on rig vol and line in and it works. good luck

  • hi again lol..can i ask wot the software is your using please, ive got wxsat but it doesnt look as good as yours mate..and i just thought dont need to make a 2m antenna as ive got a ubc 800 bearcat that covers 25to 1300mhz on a disc cone so ill use that instead lol..is the band nfm or wfm?,,cant quite see the display..cheers mate,,all the best...wayne.

  • Hi Wayne,

Wide is better for WX sats and Narrow for 2m Amateur band. its Radio com 5 software. There is more info at my site and a link on the right hand side. via my channel page.

Good luck (try turning the volume right down for better pics

  • thanks mate,,ill give it another go,,trying to find sum one to build me a qfh antenna, ive looked at a few plans for one but canna get me head round em..lol..thanks again mate...wayne.

  • What radio model are you using for receive APT Noaa satellites?

  • Hello, It is Yaesu FT-857

  • sweet! So i should be able to use my 2m vertical 8.9ft antenna for this? :D

  • Yes, Thats all I use. Good Luck and I look forward to seeing the results!

  • how big of an outdoor antinna do i need for my radio scanner? would a small 3foot cb radio antenna do the job?

  • You need an antenna that is tuned for 137.5 Mhz. CB ant are for 27mhz and are usually the wrong length of wire. You need something about 2.2 Meters in length, however give your CB ant a try! It Might work ok you never know!

A antenna length can be calculated by dividing frequency into 306. i.e 306/137 = 2.2 meters long.

    Good luck

  • cool thanks for the help. ill give it a try.

  • i picked up a very faint signal from the satellite by using the cb antenna. i got the high pitched sound with a very faint clip clop sound. but i didnt have it hooked to the computer

  • Nice one! let me know what happens next

  • This is absolutely so COOL! I wished i could do this too, thanks for the little info.

  • Thanks! glad you enjoyed it.

  • Do you have a website or so? Where i can read how to do this myself?

  • Hi there is a link on My youtube channel page

    or google 2e0hts.

    TNX and Good luck

  • nice vid. how to on a radio or find the channel from a pc? does it need to download or install anything?

  • You can tune the to the frequency by hand on a radio or reciever. You need decoding software such as WXmixtoimage available free download for your p.c

  • what do i need to get started with all this. Could I just use my pc, a basic radio, and some software? Cheers!

  • Yes providing you have a radio/scanner that will recieve on 137mhz fm. Some recievers only go up as high as 30mhz. Most Scanners these days will do the job with an outdoor antenna.

    Good luck all the best.

  • Thank you kindly for the advice :o)

  • Yes, a radio or Scanner that covers 137mhz FM.

    An outdoor antenna.

    wxtoimage software (downloaded via Google)

Satscape software (downloaded via Google)to know when a satellite is passing over you.

A lead from your radio ext speaker socket to the input of the p.c soundcard and away you go.

    Good luck.

  • very nice!!

  • great video :-) i have a ft857 also just wandering how are you getting such a clear picture from the noaa sat using nfm on the rig do you not need wfn for a clear picture ? i have tried it but its just to narrow on fm :-)

  • Hi Tom, I use Radiocom 5.2 from bonito. I have seen your video it seems to work well.73 Simon

  • Hi, what's that software called? I use wxtoimg, (free ver), yours looks much better. Check out my very short wxsat video for a quick demo of how I get my images. Tom MW0CXW aka tamathemaori

  • cool

  • Pictures are very good. I am surprised that the filter is wide enough in the FT-857. I used to copy the wx sats years ago, it was a lot of fun. Randy

  • Hi Randy, I am pleased with the performance of the little FT-857 it does well for me. TNX for the comment 73 hope to hear you on 20M some day. Simon

  • Bonito Radcom 5.2 it's quite straight forward to use and does all the other modes as well as controling your rig.

  • fantastic. this is something i have always wanted to get into. have to get the swr rig out.

  • Its fairly straight forward you should manage it with no problems and you can download satscape free just put it in google you will find it
