Notice during the first few seconds he has the option of hitting "spell it" but instead chooses "my locations" which is already aware of a previous destination......you do have the option of spelling out address, street name etc....
BTW-I noticed the music would pause or wind down whenever the GPS system had any instructions. Is that a standard feature in this system or did you have to configure the GS system to achieve this effect?
This is a great feature that is only available for the Kenwood units that are powered by supported Garmin add-ons (like the KNA-510G). The head unit is a Kenwood but the Garmin unit was specifically designed to work with this Kenwood unit hand-in-hand, so the volume going down is a feature built in to the Kenwood unit. Does this clarify?
The two controls (volume control, channel control) are the behind the wheel and are rendered dead by any aftermarket radio. However, there are many kits out there that are about $50 which activate those controls to work with aftermarket radios. I haven't purchased one yet but I plan to eventually.
Thanks for the quality video!!! Wow, you really know how to display the features of that thing. I am thinking of getting an aftermarket Navi set up when I get a new car.... either this one or the Eclipse AVN7000. Are the turn-by-turn directions really good... I am terrible with directions and I can't read a map.
The turn by turn directions are excellent, it will always let you know when to turn. If you miss a turn, it will "recalculate" and tell you where to take your next turn in order to still continue toward your destination. Great stuff.
If Garmin used a video like yours..the Public would understand their product much better...Thanks for taking the time to make this video...But you never made it to the fast food place did ya? hahaaah
Cool video, its great to see how it actually works and everything. It looks sweet! Question-how does it work if you switch to controlling your iPod in the middle of a route (say to skip a song or change playlists)? Does it switch back to the GPS on its own or is this type of thing a programmable preference, etc.? And in general how do you switch between GPS and different audio functions? Thanks!
I can't wait till the new Kenwood 8017 comes out in March 07' I plan on adding the KGN500 (aka Garmin) and this has sold me!! I find myself watching this video every day in anticipation...thanks for the excitment dude!!!
Nice unit, just what I wanted to see. Thinking of getting something like that for my Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. Question do you have remote for your stereo on your steering wheel? Or factory disk changer? How does it work with it if you do ? Here about $1700 bucks.
I removed the factory cd changer, no point when you have ipod integration & sirius. Adapters exist on ebay for interfacing Kenwood units with factory steering wheel controls and/or cd changers. Simple google search should bring you results from two different makers, approximate price is $40 per part. Thanks for the compliment, I am now very impressed with Garmin.
my uncle has the same one im gonna need to buy one for like 99 dollars at bestbuy for my new job lol

Question Does it tell you stay on left or Right when your reaching a Fork?
VJNYCFL 3 years ago
It shows the shaded area to where your vehicle is to approach plus will inform you to stay left or right before reaching the fork itself.

That's great to have the option for address
number per street, that's cool! We will ask
to city council, so they don't need to add
address numbers put on the street-name signs.
vikingscool 4 years ago
if you are just driving in view mode, will it still tell you the street ahead?
pschramko 4 years ago
Hey. It will tell you the street ahead when its not navigating a route but it wont announce it...

thebionicpig 4 years ago

When you upgrade the software, is it free?
s14sr 4 years ago
I guess not.
s14sr 4 years ago
Yes it is....it would be much easier to get the Kenwood DNX model that comes with Garmin already installed.
thebionicpig 4 years ago
Wow, thank you. Thats my next upgrade for my KVT. SD Card, right?
s14sr 4 years ago
Which model and size is that?
Telletell 4 years ago
Nevermind, I found it in your description. Thanks for the video
Telletell 4 years ago
But I would like to know, how did you get your Garmin installed like that?
Will it be hard to remove and transfer into another vehicle?

Can you help with one more query pls?Can the GPS/Audio system be integrated with the steering controls?

Garmin destroys Pioneer easily because you can't alter the point of destination in a AVIC without coming to a complete stop.
thebionicpig 4 years ago
Is there any way you can send this movie to me?
rclatte2007 4 years ago
If I could I would, but all I have is the original which is a 700MB AVI file...
